Read mouse data directly

I was wondering how you can get the X/Y of the mouse pointer? I wanted to move the mouse into the bottom border, however, I found that I could not use any of the standard calls or functions (they did not report the X/Y off screen or they broke bottom border removal. So I started to to look at the ha...

Re: lower border removal in STOS

I managed to get it removed with a flicker (off then on) every 8 seconds or so. From memory it MUST be compiled and you need to remove all other interrupt crap (such as mouse, clear the VBL list, etc). My routine started out as a raster thing. I had three VU meters on each border (left and right) an...

Finding Music

I am trying to find some chip music from a demo. From memory it was a mega demo (2 - 4 disks), there were a load of crews participating but there was a French demo which was kinda text only (that you could scroll up and down) and the text was coloured by rasters. It did little more than that but it ...

Old Magazines For Free

I have listed a load of old Atari Magazines, they are on for £0.99 but I am really just interested in them going to a good home (wife wants to bin them).

Atari TT For sale

After years of resistance I have put the first of a few of my collection on eBay. Kids and so on have meant that I only have time/space for a few of my Ataris and I want someone else to have fun with this (and in return maybe I could buy something nice for kids, trip to legoland maybe, hope they sel...

Re: Display Trick Idea - would like some thoughts...

Man that is really too slow ...... every 8 pixels... So every 8 pixels it can change one word?

Is it just BUS speed or is the Blitter a little pants? I do seem to remember doing some things in CPU as is was just quicker (screen clears I think).

Re: Display Trick Idea - would like some thoughts...

Okay is all I needed to know. It has just been bugging me is all and now I know.

I did suspect the blitter did not have the muscle for it but I thought I would post just in case.

Okay now I am clinging on but what about the Mega STE?

Re: WHERE TO BUY ST / FALCON / TT HARDWARE & SOFTWARE

I got loads of Atari hardware I should really sell (finding it hard to part with it). I have STFMs, STEs, MegaSTE, TT, Falcon (with CT60 thing) plus lots of additional hardware bits like a TT Graphics card (I forget what it is called, some 15 or 16 bit thing), a Falcon PCI Graphics card, a 286 Emula...

Display Trick Idea - would like some thoughts...

I used to spend huge amount of time programming on the STE and always loved the border removal, etc effects. Anyway, about 23 years ago I had an idea for a screen "hack" but I never managed to make it work (it needed knowledge of timers and scan syncing, etc which I did not have then). Thi...

Re: Deus Ex Atari is dead

Okay sorry for very late reply.

Yep Trooper we lost contact, I think from memory my offer for unlimited space, etc went wrong as you had Gigs of videos on there. Back then it was a bit of a problem, however, I may well still be able to help if you are interested.

Let me know.

Re: STE 16 Pixel Trick

As for the hardware scrolling I never managed to get it to work anyway. It is so much easier to get hold of tech info now but looking back I think I may have gotten caught out by the bug, from memory it would jump a couple of pixels every so often (or maybe jump 16 pixels, I forget now).

Re: struggling with sprites on Stos

Could it be that the Sprite command uses 1-320 and not 0-319? I used STOS A LOT 20 years ago but not sure I can remember much now. If you have an STE you can push values to the Blitter registers in just a dozen POKEs for quick sprites, or if you are brave it can be done in just a few LOKEs (very qui...

Thanks for the quick response!

That seems much easier than I thought it would be - that is an extra 3200 pixels for very little work.

Great.

STE 16 Pixel Trick

I have seen lots of comments about this STE trick to gain an extra 16 pixels on the left border. I assume it is to do with tricking the hardware scrolling into think it still has to draw some pixels, however, I was hoping that someone could post a better description or better still example code. Man...
