Re: ST just died

You used the word 'flash but you weren't very specific about that. A Flash on the display screen? A flash from inside the unit near the power switch? Sorry I meant the power light flashed and also a flash from inside the unit near the power switch. Nothing on the display screen. Thank you all for y...

ST just died

Just went to power up my ST and after an initial 'flash' no power at all. I've tried with a different power lead still no pulse. What's this likely to be ? Is it an easy fix or am I better searching for another ST ? This is my third ST since I got into retro gaming. My Spectrum and Sega consoles nev...

ST disk drive suddenly decided to stop being double sided ?

Hi Guys, Looking for some help I have an unmodified STFM 512k. For some reason the disk drive has decided it's single sided and no longer double sided ? Checked out 2 single disk games (Toki and Shadow Dancer) and both games ask for further disks after so many levels. There is of course no other dis...

Re: Any 'console quality' Sega and Capcom conversions ?

Great how these threads bring back memories some awesome games listed. Shows the ST could do good arcade/console style games. It's just a pity we got some poor Sega and Capcom conversions for the most part.
But it seems there is some wheat amongst the chaff.

Re: Any 'console quality' Sega and Capcom conversions ?

So even with advent of SNES/MD we saw some comprimises made to coin-op conversions. I'm actually all for compromises if it means it improves the game experience. Take Shinobi on the Master System for example, sprites and background detail are heavily reduced but Sega did a great job in making it pl...

Any 'console quality' Sega and Capcom conversions ?

I'm looking for 'console quality' arcade conversions for the ST and particularly interested in Sega and Capcom conversions that play well. I'll try and explain what I mean by 'console quality'. Take Final Fight or Street Fighter 2 for the ST where the graphics look amazing in stills but all goes to ...

Re: About SSE 3.3.0 or more.

Does anyone else get the screen problem when holding down the fire button ? Playing Zynaps fine when rapidly pressing, but when hold down the fire button (essential to collect the power ups) it appears to change from 50hz to 60hz (I'm guessing that's what it's trying to do). Don't have the same issu...

Re: Any recommendations for a UK based Atari ST repair ?

Actually just had a thought why drive A doesn't respond ( I've tried loads of different disks). I recently purchased a game from eBay and when I attempted to load it on both my old drive and my new drive it made them both squeal. The disk was really stiff to turn and neither drive could load it but ...

Re: Any recommendations for a UK based Atari ST repair ?

Oh JEEEZ it's been nearly 20 years since I last dealt with a ST virus ! So I have probably killed a load of my game disks then ? Think I've got a virus killer disk somewhere, don't want to sound a total pleb but how do I stop myself getting reinfected when i'm not sure what disk it is ? Or do I chec...

Hmm my ST is still behaving eratically goes for a while loading games fine, then doesn't seem to want to read the disks anymore very strange. Must have some other problem. Might be time for looking into another solution for playing ST games on original hardware without floppy disks.

Re: Any recommendations for a UK based Atari ST repair ?

Decided to get the new disk drive and fitted it today (yes it was relatively easy) thanks to an excellent guide by the seller atarifreakz. Only thing is looks like my old drive actually killed some of my game disks, the last games I used on it was Gods, Turrican 2, Vroom and my favourite game Toki. ...

Any recommendations for a UK based Atari ST repair ?

My ST finally seems to have given up the ghost, pretty sure it's the disk drive as boots to GEM desktop fine etc, but games are no longer loading. It went from all games loading fine last week, to just a couple today and after about an hour nothing loading. I have tried cleaning it with a disk clean...

Thanks for your replies I've picked up the Scart cable from ebay as per your link for a better picture, there's a external disk drive on there for £15 as well so I might purchase that also. So really i'm better off backing up my disks and using the copies and keeping the disks bubble wrapped. PS. Ye...

Rigging my STe up for gaming

OK after 5 years of reliving the ST through emulation I've decided you can't beat the real thing and have picked myself up a 520 STe upgraded to 1040Mb. So my questions/queries are: What equipment do I need ? I am planning on only playing original games (I have been picking up some bargains on ebay)...

Does such a program/tool exist ? - Not ST related

Firstly apologies if I have put this in the incorrect forum. I'm looking for a program/tool very similar to a emulator front end, but the difference being I want it to autostart from CD/DVD ? Just to try and explain. Say I want a Xenon 2 CD. Where upon booting the CD/DVD it would go straight to a me...
