Re: Error in CosmosEx communication!

Additional info: I now stored the MSA file on an USB stick. That way the loading works correctly.
This looks like a samba share issue. I usually have no problems with samba mounts on linux.

Re: Can anyone explain how the ST determines how much RAM it has on startup?

Cool. Would be interesting to see the disassembly of the TOS code doing the memory configuration checking. If someone is able to dig this up that would be great.

Error in CosmosEx communication!

I have mounted a samba share to the CosmosEx. I get this error when I want to start an MSA from TOS. Error in CosmosEx communication! The CE_FDD.TTP starts, but quickly displays the error. I can copy the file around. Or start programs from the harddisk. Just the MSA thing does not work. It did work ...

Re: Can anyone explain how the ST determines how much RAM it has on startup?

I used a GAL instead of 74xx and it worked without problems in a 1040STFM with 2.06. This does not explain how the TOS was totally fine with 3MB, whereas this configuration is even not possible with the hardware. I did not need any extra software to tell TOS that 1MB is missing. Somehow it did that...

Re: Can anyone explain how the ST determines how much RAM it has on startup?

Ok, so it goes like this:
A 520ST+ with 2x512M
Upgraded to 2.5MB with the 2nd 512MB disabled and replaced by 2MB
Insertion of some simple TTL logic chip and the disabled 512MB become useable again

Tadaaa: 3MB ST
You could even buy that: http://stcarchiv.de/ai1995/06_ramext.php

Re: Resources for whoever is interested in porting 'DSOTS'

I have no idea how these files were made. They are simply there. I guess for the demo I saved as NEO and RST and imported that into the demo.

Re: Can anyone explain how the ST determines how much RAM it has on startup?

The links are unfortunately broken. Maybe copy thie parts inline here when sourceforge keeps changing things around. Because now I need this info, and can't find it. I'm on the quest to determine how it was possible to have 2.5M + 0.5M (via some 74xx) in my ST without any software to tell TOS it onl...

Re: Building HxCFloppyEmulator on Linux

This thread should feature a command line example how to convert an ST or MSA file to HFE.

I searched for this info here and only found my own thead how to build the software, but not how to use the command line.
The moment I know again, I will put that here.

keymap with dead keys

Hi TL:DR; does hatari treat well dead keys? I have a swiss keyboard. It has a couple of dead keys which I need to use to map the full keyboard. I know I cannot map the writing on the keys to the characters the atari produces. So what I do, I overlay the german Atari-layout over my swiss keyboard. So...

Resetline into rPi for programmatic resetting

Hi everyone does the double reset after power on as the CE takes longer to boot. Also some people would like to be able to reset the ST from the raspberry. Well if the reset line is connected to a GPIO pin, this becomes possible. When powering on, and the raspberry is not yet booted, it holde the li...

Re: Building HxCFloppyEmulator on Linux

You don't need Bash, if you use standard Posix shell string operations. This (untested) script can be used both as hxcfe.sh & hxcfloppyemulator.sh: #!/bin/sh cd "${0%/*}" exec "${0%.sh}" "$@" Yeah I know, I was just too lazy to make it generic. Falling back to 1980...

Re: Building HxCFloppyEmulator on Linux

BTW On Linux Mint i don't have to modify the Makefile. Why do you need to do this ? Because else it's not compiling the GUI. When linking, I get errors like undefined reference to `XFixesQueryExtension' - undefined reference to `XdbeQueryExtension' And google says that those are defined in separate...

Re: Building HxCFloppyEmulator on Linux

Usage Gui: Usual problem besides converting an MSA or ST to HXC is to quickly get a program to the ST call hxcfloppyemulator.sh click on "Disk Browser" in new window, click on Create Disk surprise, "get files" does not let you chose files. But drag/drop works. so open a file brow...

Building HxCFloppyEmulator on Linux

Hi this is initially tested on a debian based, linux 64bit system. Based on this http://torlus.com/floppy/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1390 with quite some additions by me. # prepare your linux sudo apt-get install build-essential linux-headers-$(uname -r) libncurses5-dev libx11-dev subversion # ge...

I wrote a little linux script. input ST output a floppy. And it works! Cannot publish the script as it contains my directory structure. Both hxc and kf are not really playing nice when not in the install folder.

Write MSA image with kyoflux

Hi so I download a demo from pouet, and having no floppy in my laptop, I need to get it to the ST. I can put it first into HXC and then write a floppy with the STE which I then insert into the ST... but that's quite cumbersome. I don't want to buy a second HXC or reconnect the HXC between 2 computer...

You moved the instructions around so that you can fit the code to the state machine and ...

Re: Keyboard jitter solved!

The moment I move the 60hz part out of the physical screen display, no distortion can be noticed anywhere. Probably because the VBL is masking this and a CRT fully resyncs to a new signal.

Re: Keyboard jitter solved!

Doing 60hz at position 54 will render that scanline as 60hz (508 cycles) and the next line (as we are back at 50) will be rendered with 512 cycles. So no, we need to do 4 lines with 60Hz. But those can as well be anywhere distributed on the screen, which will make about 4 times a smaller distortion ...

Re: Keyboard jitter solved!

Hi after The STNICCC2015 I got told by MrNI about this 16 cycles shorter VBL. So I went on to experiment on my real hardware with a real CRT. I put the 60Hz part in the middle of the screen. There is some distortion to be seen which lasts about 16 lines. This is short enough to get hidden in the VBL...
