Re: Keyboard and monitor recomendations

Just need some reassuring words that someone is able/willing to repair it. (…) Thanks guess I have to contact medusa computers. Drop us a mail to acpinfo ät firebee dot org. As you may know I am trying to do all the office tasks regarding the FireBee for years now. It just went blank while working ...

Re: Keyboard and monitor recomendations

using still there instead of a straight cannot.... does it implies it will be able to one day? Note: no time implied but some time in the (near) future ? Nobody is working on it right now, but of course it could be done. BTW, where can I sent my FB for repairs. Do you have any other idea than Medus...

Re: Keyboard and monitor recomendations

"Problems" is perhaps too hard wording. The situation is quite clear: -) EmuTOS still has no USB driver, so if you like to have 100% fallback-system (for a crashed FireTOS) you need a Atari keyboard -) FireTOS USB still cannot use any USB-Hub, thus also no keyboards with USB hub functional...

Re: 68080 Apollo Core

Is there any current FPGa source code? also for PIC I see only binaries Regarding this question see our news from April '18: http://firebee.org/fb-bin/news?action=full_news&idnews=489&lng=EN&offset=0 And see the great work David Gálvez and Miro Kropáček have done at: https://github.com/...

Re: 68080 Apollo Core

have you taken into consideration borrowing 68080 code? There is (or should be) a free licence for Apollo Core: http://www.apollo-core.com/knowledge.php?b=4&note=10708 We are following the project from the beginning on. As I said above, since Natami times. First it would need to get ready and u...

Re: 68080 Apollo Core

so what ? the vampire is currently faster and can do more than the firebee. It does, as said above, not make sense to compare different thing. In fact the Vampire is more or less similar hardware to FireBees FPGA part. So what you mean is that the Apollo core is more compatible than the FireBees co...

Re: 68080 Apollo Core

FireBee: CPU - not so compatible (…) Vampire: CPU - fully compatible plus some usefull addons (e.g. ammx) Cyprian, your summarize is a well completely improper! The Vampire has no CPU. It has a FPGA which can be configured as CPU. But as it is the exact same FPGA as at the FireBee, one could implem...

Re: 68080 Apollo Core

And I don't get another thing. There is a FireBee project which is 100% open project so any one can change/add FPGA firmware or software, change software, (add MiST to the FireBee FPGA for ST compatibility, ...) but almost nobody of the developers care about that. Now there is a closed comercial Am...

Re: FireBee in NYC

For greek you need to install UTF-8 TrueType fonts and make it usable via NVDI. For example I had good experiences with "DejaVu" from Linux. Than some programs like Highwire and PapyrusX can use several languages without problems. I tested Arabic, Greek, Cyrillic and Hebrew without issues,...

Re: Firebee: the long game?

Cyprian, at the one hand you are right, at the other I am glad to not have to support the "retro crowd" as well ;) The machine works well as GEM machine – what was always our first aim. And also with the Suska, there is a weel working FPGA configured "ST" for a decade now, and th...

Re: Firebee: the long game?

but IMHO the future is quite clearly in FPGA As if the FireBee would not contain a huge and good FPA from the beginning, ... Let me remind you – as honorable member of the ACP project that you are – that most of the FireBees Atari chips are VHDL from the Suska project! Sorry guys, but it is oblique...

Re: Keyboard and monitor recomendations

Personally I prefer 16:10 Monitors (as it is a clean multiplyer of Ataris original 640 x 400) with 800 x 1280 native resolution. The advantage is for me, while using Thing! that all elements are big enough (icons, menues, floating palettes), and that the graphics is damn fast in this resolution. You...

Re: Firebee: the long game?

The plan at the moment is to collect a lot of serius preorders, and, once the shipping of the recent series is done, to talk Medusa into producing another batch. But at the moment we cannot promise anything. But if you like to make a new series come true, drop us a mail with your preorder if you are...

Re: Firebee: the long game?

My point was, the future of the Atari platform is better rooted in emulation than it is in dedicated hardware. OK, now I understand your thoughts better. Well, thanks for the flowers, but the FireBee is for sure not "the future". Threre are tons of other projects which drive the plattform...

Re: Firebee: the long game?

Obviously, this platform is not attracting many new "power users". Of course people would like to use their old favorites on a new system. But, emulation allows both legacy support and scaled performance increases. I do not see your point. It is mainly the 25 years old discussion "em...

Re: Firebee: the long game?

To make things clear: the Firebee can if course display VGA. Only st compatible color Video modes and 16 color modes are not fully implemented, yet. The Firebee can also display ST compatible and 16 colour modes. It's just that FireTOS doesn't implement these. EmuTOS (while not supporting any highe...

Re: Firebee: the long game?

From my, developer's, point of view the biggest issue is the lack of anything even resembling a development attitude - on one hand you get statements like "no, we are all in to open everything, just do it!" and on the other hand the most crucial developers (Didier at that time, Fredi for ...

Re: Status of second run Firebees

If you do not like to rush, why are you asking publicly? So yes, we are damn slow with delivering. We are doing everything in our spare time as you know. Nobody is earning anything. So, once again: all FireBees are produced and work well for a very long time now (after the rework), we are just slow ...
