Re: What hapened to atariforge? dev-docs moved.

I can't thank Rob enough for hosting dev-docs at dev-docs.atariforge.org , however do to the location, weather, and the like it goes down way to often. I assume Rob will eventually fix the server issue (storm related), when I don't know. If he does get it back online the old url will be removed. htt...

He didn't say, so I can't answer that. I assume it will eventually.

Re: reverse string or MIRROR$

XOR won't work in the case. You may of misinterpreted the function. ;) Don't know why charles feels the need to derail the topic. As for mirror$() it's very low on my priority list. It's true omikron lacks rinstr() I see why it might be useful there. Maybe he's attempting to port omikron sources to ...

Re: reverse string or MIRROR$

I stand by comments about BYTE{}, just as reliable if you know how GFA manages strings internally. If you want your code to look clean and correct the string functions are sufficient. I never code for the interpreter only the compiled end result. Charles asked about asm, so my assumption was he was ...

Re: reverse string or MIRROR$

String concatenation and MID$() generate library calls (BSRs) which execute much more code. BYTE{} swapping even with a temporary placeholder generates simple move.b instructions. I don't think this routine requires asm or such optimizations, but I always have fun with such things no matter how smal...

Re: reverse string or MIRROR$

An odd size string wouldn't need its center character moved. You can cut the loop iterations in half and swap the characters in the original string and eliminate a$ entirely.

Re: N.AES

A year ago a sent a mail to Woller with a technical question. I've got no answer. But lp got an answer concering his N.AES patch! I don't like Woller. :x Same experience I had. I emailed Woller several times regarding the status of NAES and never got a single reply. I assumed it was a dead project ...

Re: N.AES

They haven't done anything for like a decade and you need to have the original disk, so I didn't think it was a problem to give the one file. However, I had an email exchange with woller and the "serial number" issue came up. To avoid any problems it was removed from my site.

But it might a hint for lp to add to his GBE.

I can add it to the to-do list. ;)

For maximum speed I'd use BYTE{} as PEEK() works in supervisor mode.

Re: reducing the source file, removing empty lines etc

The Basic Omikron compiler stores empty lines and comments in the compiled program. By removing all that is unnecessary, the size of the compiled program can be significantly reduced. A baseline is 255 bytes. Unused octets on a line are compiled, but take up less space than comments. That's why I m...

Re: GFABasic or STOS or other?

It really depends what you are planning on doing. If you want to write games in ST low and line numbers don't prematurely age you, then STOS will do. I use PureC for things BASIC can't do, like LDG modules. I use Devpac assembler for small bits of code where I want an extra boost in speed. That appl...

Re: PH Gmap - Google maps, Street View, Routes, GPX & more

Frankly, I am at a lost with Thing!. If you can get it to do AV-protocol, let me know the proper code for it. I tried some tests with my GFA editor since it uses the AV-Protocol. I can't get AV_VIEW to work at all and I get the same result as with phgmap. Thing doesn't throw an alert, however it do...

If this image cache is managed locally, which it must be if its put to the local hard drive, then there is a solution. Convert all the spaces to underscores or dashes and it will work everywhere. This is how I would solve it. It's the path & filename, so the user will have to do that on ...

If the path contains spaces, try quotes. I think Thing Desktop will then know what to do.
