Re: Demo scene

I don't recall that many more productions coming out on the Amiga. Not quality ones. You probably missed a lot of good demos then, Amiga had its share of amazing demos, a lot. Any recommendations would be appreciated. I'm familiar (or I thought I was) with the releases the came out when the machine...

Re: Cross platform gaming

Interesting. I remember hooking my ST up to my mate's A500 for some stunt car racer action. I forgot Lotus II had an option for link up an I'll confess at the time I figured it was ST-ST or Amiga-Amiga only, and I didn't know it was up to four players using two machines (serves me right for getting ...

Guytp: Even back then it was bigger... Believe me... I'm the master of the archives and I have actual numbers. Kestra has over 70.000 entries: http://janeway.exotica.org.uk/search.php while my Archive has about 24000 ST entries.... ftp://fujiology.untergrund.net/users/ltk_tscc/fujiology/ do the mat...

Maybe now but I was referring to over 30 years ago and I don't recall that many more productions coming out on the Amiga. Not quality ones. The may have been more but triple?

Re: Demo scene

I found back then that Amiga demos displayed presentation whilst the ST ones showed technical achievement, almost trying to catch up with the Amiga's abilities in many cases (something I denied for many years since 1989 until a few years back, when someone on another forum simply said 'the amiga cos...

Re: Pretty cool c64 YM emulation

Love this! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMAFCUSwrao It's ironic; ST musicians have (on and off) been trying to get the ST to sound like the C64 for years and now the C64 can play ST music... Almost - I noticed the 'swedish new year' track doesn't sound as it should as the buzz-tone kicks in. A m...

Re: POV .mod compilation disks (a request for number 7)

Thanks again - Looks like I got the wrong disk numbers (I was after 3 & 4, but I grabbed the lot as I bought around a third of them from the demo club back in the day (23 Alma Place, Spilsby, Lincs - IIRC... I think I need to get out more :? ). Anyway, I'm using Hatari (Linux) and have found tha...

Re: POV .mod compilation disks (a request for number 7)

That's the one! Thanks Lotek! Seeing that screenshot takes me back - I used to ignore the mod player as it the mods were quiet and when you went back to the tune selection menu a particularly bleepy mad Max tune would blare out. Thanks again, I'll download that once I get back home from a small holi...

POV .mod compilation disks (a request for number 7)

Hello all, POV, aside from their demo compilations, released several .mod disks (or at least, they made a .mod player and 'the demo club' cobbled together a load of mod disks) and I'm after one of them. It's mod disk #7; it featured a tune I loved (possibly two, I'm a bit hazy on the specifics) call...

Re: for every fan: Jack Tramiel and Family (insights)

Certainly a rose-tinted view in my opinion - 'Golden Age of Atari'? I'd've thought that was with the vcs? I'd agree they were business orientated; they certainly didn't really seem to care what the owner/fans wanted. And not a fan or lawsuits - didn't they use their copyright on sprite-wrapping, scr...

Re: A GNU/LINUX ARCADE DISTRIBUTION + Atari ST Demos

This does look like fun, I've a linux netbook but my German's not great and I can see the project's been going on a few years but I have a question of anyone who's done so; If I burnt the image to disc would I be able to run it? I don't think I have the ability to run it under a virtual machine.

With the number of disks you guess at I can only say it was one of the screens from the Phaleon Giga demo by Next (http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=496). When I'm back home in a couple of days and have a spare half-hour I'll go through it and get back to you

Re: OutRun, positively surprised

Outrun was in one of the STfm game packs, wasn't it?... Time may have tarnished your memory of things but didn't it take ABSOLUTELY AGES to load (something around 5 minutes)? IIRC in the same pack was Super Hang On, which was a far better conversion (and loaded a damn site faster). In my opinion the...

Re: Box of mostly ST and some Amiga disks for offer

As far as I know the ST had no region lock like the consoles of the day. There is the 50/60hz difference, but I don't see how that would cause a major issue. I know there was a US demo back in the day that ran fine on my ST (I'm ashamed to say I can't remember the name of it OR the crew that release...

Re: Box of mostly ST and some Amiga disks for offer

Cheers dude. I don't really want to bin them, or even get rid of them; quite a bit of these (well, over 50 .mod disks) I compiled myself (ok, my mate with an amiga ripped them from any games/demos the ripper cartridge could manage :) ) and it is a snapshot of my life in my mid-late teens (sadly ~ ev...

Box of mostly ST and some Amiga disks for offer

Afternoon! I'm moving house. Having cleared out the attic I have found lots of stuff that I will probably be moving to another attic. So I thought I'd get rid of this stuff to save space, time and money moving it. It's my ST collection that I started in '89 when I got my first STfm. It's mostly PD g...

It amazes me that games are still coming out for the jag, in a good way. :) The other games on your website are listed as coming soon for the jag (including the prequel the Philia), are they imminent? I'll be honest to say that I haven't had my jaguar out for ages, probably a goods few years, but it...

Re: Noob question

The 520fm was, as far as I'm aware, the most common machine. To be honest if you'd got an early version of the ST with a single-sided disk drive you'd still be able to play most ST games as software houses pandered to single-sided disk drive owners for YEARS longer than they should have (bitter, me?...

A few old ST magazines (ST World / ST User)

Hello, I've got a few old ST mags if anyone wants them - I thought I'd already got rid of them but found them in a box in the attic. There is : ST World Issue 21 (Nov '87), 24 (Feb '88) ST User Issues 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12 & 13 (ranging from March '86-'87) Let me know if you're interested. Al...

Re: Cheap Falcon for sale

That said that does look like quite a tidy STE.. I might be tempted at just over a tenner including postage; my STE (ashamedly in the attic) has a dodgy floppy drive and the mouse port is more f*cked than an enthusiastic porn star's back door, so chucking the meg upgrade from that into this might be...

Re: Games that run in 50fps/1 Vbl List

Warp is rather smooth, from what I remember. I'd also suggest Quartz - It looked really good; smooth scrolling (4 directional at certain levels.. or was it 8 directions?) lots of stuff happening on screen, a great soundtrack and I only remember it slowing at particularly busy points. It was also goo...

Re: Hunter (Activision) on PSP (CaSTaway)

That's weird as I'm sure I played Hunter on my Dreamcast using CaSTaway. Given that it's happening with all the versions of the game it sounds very much like an emulator issue. All I can suggest is contacting whoever ported it to the psp and being really, really nice. :)
