Re: Wanted: Atari Falcon 030 Case

Nothing too stupid, tbh -- if I can't get a stock case I'm going to fabricate one from milled aluminium bar and sheet. But it would be nice to have one with an original case. If you have a case going, make me an offer and we'll see where it goes... :)

Re: New TT + FALCON/ST PC-like case.

This style of case would be easy to CNC manufacture. Not sure how much anodising would be, but that would look extremely nice.

Re: New TT + FALCON/ST PC-like case.

I'm in need of a Falcon case, so would be interested. I'm going to get myself a CNC mill before long, so may end up making one, but regardless this case sounds interesting! I have a few machines which could possibly need a new case...

Re: Dead Falcon mobo and Replacement Chips

Cheers, may take you up on that! I seem to remember it being expensive shipping from best even within the US when I looked at getting some jaguar die connectors. I've no idea why they can't just post regular airmail for some items and halve the postage.... :(

Re: Dead Falcon mobo and Replacement Chips

I'll give them a try if all other options fail, as I'll need a new videl for the other motherboard anyhow. The shipping with Best to the UK is bloody expensive even for small items, though, so I'd hate to think how much they'd charge for a case! :)

Re: Dead Falcon mobo and Replacement Chips

H&V sync were reversed, switched those and we're good! Attached an ST keyboard and it now boots to the desktop. That I was not expecting! I could do with finding a case now... it's all a bit precarious attaching keyboards and stuff without a case. Then onto motherboard number 2. That one is miss...

Re: Dead Falcon mobo and Replacement Chips

Tried a different Falcon diag cart image thanks to crashman. Seems to work a little better, possibly just down to how its high / low split, as the other image I had was already split. Either way, with the diag cart plugged in, I get H&V sync generated by the Videl, without the cart I get nothing...

Re: For Sale!: Atari Test (and others...) cartridge! 2nd Batch.

Thankyou kindly! :) I'll see if that works any better than the other split image I found which currently isnt running. Might be my dodgy hardware, but its working on a Mega... although just using ROM4 in that case.

Re: Dead Falcon mobo and Replacement Chips

The more complete Falcon board looks like its running, but the video output is nads. Initially I spotted the clock buffer chip on top of one of the PAL's has been knocked off, so was not getting power. I was getting an 8Mhz system clock at this point going into the other PAL's. Resoldered the clock ...

Is the Falcon dead test ROM image available somewhere? I've got a cartridge PCB I made ages ago which I've populated, just need the image now.

Re: Dead Falcon mobo and Replacement Chips

Oh, interesting, not seen centuriontech before. Yeah, I'm going off Exxos's detailed PSU examinations of ST and Falcon PSU's. The load of a Falcon on the PSU is about that of the STFM, but the Falcon is intended to support internal HDD, so as far as I can tell that's the reason behind it being beefi...

Re: Dead Falcon mobo and Replacement Chips

Is there any issue using a standard ST PSU in the Falcon? Assuming I'm not using a mechanical HDD, the requirements don't look any different to a stock ST. I assume the PSU was beefed up on the 5V rail for the current draw on internal HDD's. So using a CF internal HDD (and likely FDD), all should be...

Re: Dead Falcon mobo and Replacement Chips

Cheers Alex, I'll give you a shout as I start hacking about. I've dug out an old ATX PSU I converted into a "bench" supply, so I'll start with that. I'd prefer a current limited supply really for things of unknown state, but my proper bench supply is just a single channel one.

Re: Dead Falcon mobo and Replacement Chips

I bought both of them, couldn't resist, been ages since any Falcon motherboards came up. And I was slightly annoyed I didn't pick up some Sparrow mobo's a while back, so making up for it. Although to be fair there is far more chance of fixing these than prototype boards... :) More posts as I get rou...

Re: Dead Falcon mobo and Replacement Chips

PM sent, many thanks! :D

Looking like it may not be too costly to gather all the chips. The SCSI controller looks easy to come by, so it's just the VIDEL which is the issue. However I can test the board without a VIDEL to a fair extent, so initial testing is at least inexpensive with those PAL/GAL's.

Re: Dead Falcon mobo and Replacement Chips

Has anyone got the logic for the PAL's at U62/U63/U67/U68 and GAL at U44? At $20's a piece for simple programmable logic, that's taking the piss.

Is there a pinout of the Videl somewhere? I can't seem to find one on the 'net.

Dead Falcon mobo and Replacement Chips

There's a couple of dead Falcon mobo's on ebay atm. How easy are the custom chips to come by? Looks like a Videl and SCSI controller missing from one, which may have been a parts board for the other which has visible dodgy looking rework on the Videl. If the less populated one doesn't go for silly m...

Re: SC1224 no vertical deflection

Sorted it! I managed to get the wrong fusible resistor to replace the blown one, I got 0.25w instead of 0.5w. I only noticed last night after looking through the schematics for ages trying to figure out what else could be wrong. I replaced the blown one with a 0.5w FR2R2 as it should be and we're wo...

Re: SC1224 no vertical deflection

Forward voltage of 0.477V on D708 with multimeter testing. RPG10G has a forward voltage of 1.3V @ 1A. Even at pretty much zero current, it should be more like 0.6v according to the datasheets. Not sure if this is dodgy or not.... reverse is giving nothing, so it's not shorted.
