This is what Ijor is saying : you need to know how the protection works to make a new disk ; and to know how the protection works, you must crack it first.

Re: Req : "Audio Sculpture" (STX,...) even not running...

Hi kodak80, this looks like what I get on my STF when writing back the RAW files, the written track is too short by a few bytes at the start and the protection will fail (the protection goes to mono video mode during its tests, that's why you don't see any video output). Check on track 1 is likely t...

Re: Req : "Audio Sculpture" (STX,...) even not running...

Thanks a lot for testing this and confirming it works on real STE. As the image I wrote from the RAW files didn't work on my STF, maybe the RAW file can't be written back in that specific protection case ? (IIRC some games were reported some times ago with this problem, but could be written with SC...

Re: Req : "Audio Sculpture" (STX,...) even not running...

Hi I wrote the RAW file posted by Brume using my KF board and tested it on my STF : same crash, loader stops at the same point as under Hatari (hard to tell if it's exactly the same point, but it doesn't seem to read more tracks) This doesn't necessary means this image is not the one from Audio Scul...

Are you sure of this ? I though variable bit rate was recently added to HFE format V3, as discussed here :

At least Toki STX works under emulator, so either the protection is not exactly the same, or the audio sculpture STX image is wrong/incomplete for some reasons.

Yes, please :) I could check a CTR image under Hatari and SCP could be tested under Steem too.

Re: Req : "Audio Sculpture" (STX,...) even not running...

Hi it's possible the original disk used a protection not supported by Pasti, as was seen in a few others games, for example variable bit cells length or weak bits outside of a sector (in track or gap), which STX format doesn't support at the moment. As the HFE image didn't work either on real HW, I ...

Re: Hatari 2.0.0 has been released

Thanks for an detail explanation! So, if someone can correct /patch the mistake on the demo detection routine, some of screens will work also on the ST mode. (But maybe better to keep it in original state and run on an STe instead.) Cheers! If you want to check the demo with correct STF mode, you n...

Re: Hatari 2.0.0 has been released

So, I tested more screens on my STF (last time I just checked the main menu worked). The result is that on STF the demo loader will crash immediately and the demo will hang. This is because the STF/STE detection routine used in this demo is wrong : it writes to FF8205 to check for STF/STE, but the v...

Re: Hatari 2.0.0 has been released

I wonder is maybe there something wrong with my hatari 2.0.0 ST configuration!? Can you send me your working Hatari 2.0.0 ST mode config file for this demo to try to test it again? You should get a working setup that runs this demo by just using Hatari's default setting. To do this, move your hatar...

Re: Hatari 2.0.0 has been released

Hi and thanks for the explanation! As I did not find the info on compatibility pages that it works "fine" only with tos1.04fr, so I did not checked !? (but I guess its obvious, so my mistake) I don't say it only works with tos 1.04, as my real STF has tos 1.02FR and it works too. But mayb...

Re: Hatari 2.0.0 has been released

It's possible that some screens are for STE and some for ST. Do the glitching screens work better e.g. TOS v1.04? I tried with ST T104 1MB too, but f.e. on ST the N.G.C. hangs at start, so the demo might be for STe machine only! In general, the best way always would be to check a demo on a real mac...

Re: Hatari MIDI for OSX and Windows

Hi thanks for the details and your patch for Hatari. As you say, it would be interesting if someone could check behaviour on real HW, because it's quite possible jitter was already present due to some MFP limitations. Although I'm not sure people used to push 63 kB of data on real ST ? Or maybe this...

Re: Hatari MIDI for OSX and Windows

Hi IIRC when I improved Hatari MIDI support at the ACIA level, I noticed some MIDI programs like cubase or others had some code to compensate for a possible clock drift, adjusting their rate to keep timings in a desired window. Isn't that what we are seeing ? Does it have any negative impact on the ...

Re: Games that run in 50fps/1 Vbl List

Using the last pasti.dll, of course, but I think now it's an ACIA/6301 problem appearing with the original disk processing timing rather than a wrong image. The protection itself passes. If you try without SSE option 'C1', it will fail all the time on the original but not on the Auto version. The p...

Re: After the War kryoflux dump

Hi
I converted the kryoflux raw files to a plain CTR file to use it under Hatari, and the game worked well (but I didn't play too long).
What part is challenging emulation ? Is this some tight FDC timings or some cpu prefetching/self modified code ?

Re: MFP / CPU clock ratio

Hi thanks for your input, but if you read the rest of this thread, you will see that I finally measured this precisely on my STF and that we're now 100% sure that counter goes up (this was measured using a kind of sync-lock code (as for fullscreen) to precisely change period counter with a precision...

Re: Steem SSE 3.9

Hi cyprian, this test code is very useful and I could use it to emulate accurate cpu/blitter bus sharing under Hatari (not released yet). Wonder how you did it? In Steem, if a blit is going on, there's a check at each CPU R/W, which adds overhead. Same thing, no black magic involved :) Only solutio...

Nicolas, that's cool. I attached binary and source code. Colors changed as you asked ("halftone" label). Sixteenth halftone register contains "green" color, to show that blitter uses 63 bus cycles for moving data Thanks, I will have a look at it later. Could you post a picture o...

Re: Steem SSE 3.9

How it works: in a BLIT mode the BLiTTER counts every memory access used by the CPU. And after 64th it takes the control over the bus if I remember correctly for 65 bus cycles (1 cycle for bus mastering, 63 for data operations and 1 for bus mastering), later it releases the bus and again counts eve...

Re: Screen Pointer Update glitch

Triple buffer should be enough, but if your effect sometimes takes 1.25 VBL or more, then you must also handle the fact that you should not "rotate" the 3 buffers until you really finished drawing a complete frame. Which means that sometimes you must display the same buffer twice on screen...
