Several years ago I had PM Doom running on the Milan but I don't think I ever got the sounds working.

Re: IDE -> sata adapter

I used the DVD for the later testing because the adapter wouldn't be able to wreck like it had done to the HDDs,

I had hoped to use 2 adapters so I could have my usual 2HDDs and a DVD drive.

The cheap single drive adapter worked but I would only be able to have 2 drives in total.

IDE -> sata adapter

Back in 2015 I bought a Startech pata to sata adapter to try to use in the Milan. The goal was to switch to sata drives and a sata PSU. The adapter goes in the MB IDE port and with a mod to remove the plugged hole for the pin that the Milan has, it goes in nicely. This adapter alows you to connect 2...

Re: Memory protection in Mint

The solution is to change the memory protection flags for this application to "readable", this can be done with Thing! (and probably other tools too). This will allow other applications to READ data from the application's memory, but not write anything. This will fix most, if not all, mem...

Re: Current purchasable USB Keyboard to Mega STe options

I think atari and amiga mouse are quite similar, the mouse on my ST has a switch to swap between the two standards, I think it just reverses a couple of wires in the the plug. I found an arduino project for connecting a ps2 keyboard to a usb computer and wondered if this could be done in reverse to ...

Re: Porting PalmOS apps

It actually made me think that a decent version of X would be better than DOS :-) (see other discussions)

If I could get it working under X, that would just be a first step.

Re: Porting PalmOS apps

I have the GPL source to an old PalmOS application (TideTool 2.2). Not really surprising, as it is publicitly available on that site. :-) I had a look while I was writing and didn't think that it would still be around after all these years. Good idea about using XTide, if it is an X app it might ev...

Porting PalmOS apps

I have the GPL source to an old PalmOS application (TideTool 2.2).

You can see how old it is: http://www.toolworks.com/bilofsky/tidetool/

Has anyone ever tried porting Palm stuff to GEM ?

Re: foss-north 2018: Atari ST Free Operating Systems

Some years ago I have compiled "dosbox" it was working but keyboard was absolutely wrong and never try to do working, but dosbox is not difficult to compil with SDL as I remember. Dosbox would be great to have on the FireBee, Milan 060, Hades 060, Vamipre, ... About the keyboard maybe it ...

Re: Milan maximum RAM

Is the 512MB limit on the Milan based on the fact that it can only take 4 EDO cards and the largest ones are 128MB ? Is there any addressing limitation ? I wondered if another type of 1GB memory card could be added in some way ? I don't know anything about the various types of memory card such as vo...

Re: Milan maximum RAM

I had another attempt to get more than 192MB working but it failed. The 128MB simms don't seem to make a good connection in the sockets. The others simms I have can be a little unreliable, taking a few attempts to get them seated so that they are detected. If the 128MB aren't seating very well then ...

Re: Trying NetSurf on Atari TT

Netsurf is slow on the Milan060 and I don't think it is down to the hardware. I get the feeling it is faster on similar Amigas so I always think there is a bottleneck somewhere.

Re: CT60e is coming :)

Would (turn on "dream mode" now) something like the Vampire be compatible it? Yes, why not. Falcon's expansion bus where the ct60e docks in is very similar to Amiga 1200's trapdoor expansion connector. Both are based on the 680x0 bus protocol, both are 24 Bit adress bus, but the one is 16...

Re: Java vm

I believe Java -> native is not well supported but I've not really looked into it. That may be why gcj is obsolete. The jvm back in 1998 was terribly slow and even the compilers used to build it have moved on a lot in the past 20 years. With only 16MB in a PC I am surprised it could do anything ;-)

Java vm

I quick search on here reveals a few short discussions from the early 2000s about Java and jvm. I did try to get Kaffe woking back in about 1999 without much luck. While I don't think the situation has improved there have been jvm developments in the intervening years, like: https://sourceforge.net/...

Being able to run any ST low res game would be a good start :-)

I was never a big gamer but it's ironic that the one machine that can't run ST games is a clone.

Looking at the simm under magnification I can see 4 pairs of contacts PD1, PD2, PD3 and PD4.

PD1 has a surface mount item on it, a resistor presumably.

Re: Milan maximum RAM

Try what exactly ?

I have got it to boot with a combination that I had before that gives 192MB, this was the best I've ever managed.

Slot 0 = 128
Slot 1 = empty
Slot 2 = 64
Slot 3 = empty
