There are a few bits and pieces of information but none of it very useful: http://www.datasheetarchive.com/pdf/download.php?id=7a332a078d1dcbe575a4d1807247cd168aa8fa&type=P&query=ColdFire+v5 https://data.kemt.fei.tuke.sk/MikroprocesorovaTechnika/_materialy/ColdFire/cf_vs_arm/art2111-porovnan...

Re: Coldfire V5

I realise HP are only in it for the money and not interested in supporting our community. They do open source support so there is a slim possibility they might do similar things for hardware. I always believe in asking nicely even if the answer is not necessarily a positive one. On page 6 of the pdf...

Re: FireBee revival

Well David Galvez had the right idea. Make GEM wrappers for open source applications. A python port would help as well. Add an applications category in demo parties or something silly like that. However most things are integration with cloud or web nowadays. Also we need a software repo and a softw...

Re: Coldfire V5

A lot of time has passed since their ARM offensive and they might be amenable to selling a small backstock of v5 if they have any. I don't know if the v5e made it into any printers but some of them can be had for £50-100 on ebay and the cpu could be extracted. BGA mounted ? [edit] It looks like the ...

Re: Coldfire V5

Has anyone asked NXP recently. If the Firebee team show them what they have done so far, they might be helpful with documentation.

It sounds like it is at least pin compatible with the v4.

Coldfire V5

I learned today that a Coldfire v5 was produced and used in a number of laser printers like the HP Laserjet Enterprise P3015N. https://www.nxp.com/files-static/training_pdf/29147_COLDFIRE_CORES_WBT.pdf http://cpufpu.cz/freescale/coldfire_v5.html More efficient than the v4 and clocked at 400MHz. I wo...

Re: 68040 40Mhz Upgrade on Milan

http://www.exxoshost.co.uk/atari/mirror/myatari/issues/apr2003/milan060.htm The chip is on the 68060 adapter board so getting at it is not as difficult as a chip on the motherboard. I was told scsi doesn't work because of the motherboard revision, I mainly run at 25Mhz. It would be nice to be able t...

Re: Apollo Team announces developing of Vampire standalone version to run as AMIGA and ATARI ST

I haven't tried MP again since I updated from Ming! to Thing!

Having a full replacement for the 68060 would be the best option, better than moving to a less capable although faster cpu.

Re: Apollo Team announces developing of Vampire standalone version to run as AMIGA and ATARI ST

I've never used MP on the Milan. I tried it but Thing desktop didn't work so I switched MP off again. Mint on the Milan is very stable even without it and few apps crash. The ones that do crash would probably crash in MP as well. I would consider a very fast FPGA "CPU" upgrade for the Mila...

I have an isa milanblaster.

Inside the mb_bios.prg it says it is Version 2.1 (May 25 2000).
The file is 17,617 bytes.

Infrared

I was just looking in the Milan handbook and I noticed there is an infrared port on the motherboard.

Has it ever been used for anything ?

Do you think nxp will ever build a faster Coldfire cpu ?

A 500MHz or 1GHz version shouldn't be too difficult these days.

Another thought...

Could a Coldfire adapter be made to replace the 060 adapter ? Patch the bootblock/TOS and the Milan joins the Firebee.

Re: 68040 40Mhz Upgrade on Milan

I do remember seeing that the 68060 can run at 4x bus speed so 20/80MHz would be achievable, although would it be any faster in the real world than 25/50 ?

Re: zview maintainer

The instructions on SourceForge for making zView show it isn't straightforward. The make file is set up for cross compiling as well.

Maybe someone could be persuaded to put it into a github travis build like the new Freemint stuff.

Re: 68040 40Mhz Upgrade on Milan

Many years ago I wrote an Article for Atari Computing mag on my upgrade experience from 040 to 060. You can probably still find it online. My Milan will work at 30/60MHz but the scsi causes it to crash so I have to run at 25/50MHz. If there is a clock chip upgrade that would increase the usable cloc...

Re: zview maintainer

Just browsing the zView code again. There is a printer icon, so in zView/catalog/catalog.c [489] the Printer function could be activated: case TOOLBAR_PRINT: /* Print image or PDF */ Menu_print_image(); break; then in zView/menu.c [104] add the VDI printing code (the hard part) void Menu_print_image...

Re: zview maintainer

So a new function would be needed to open the correct vdi printer device (might not be 21), scale the image to the correct resolution and send to the printer.

This function would have to be attached like the others in menu.c MenuDesktop

I did try to build zView a few years ago but never succeeded.

Re: zview maintainer

There are other issues in zView like zoom in several steps and then zoom out again and you can't get back to 100% but it is a minor one. Printing isn't trivial otherwise everyone would implement it. I thought some sort of one-stop plug-in that provides the essential Printing feature might make it ea...

Re: zview maintainer

Thanks Lonny, I have added it as a feature request on zView. I was pondering whether something like an SLB could be created with most of the standard printer functions in it (printer dialogue, printer connection etc.). It might make it easier to add printing support to other applications like zView,...

zview maintainer

Is anyone currently maintaining zView ? It would be great if we could get printing support added. I wonder if some of the qed print support could be lifted and shifted but that then made me think if a printer support library could be created ? The idea would be to bundle the code for calling up the ...

I bought Players when it first came out and upgrade to 8.23 over the years.

It is one of the best applications ever written. It knocks spots off Msword.

Even without grammar support an English version would we will worth having. A great shame they don't offer a new version.
