Re: Apollo Team announces developing of Vampire standalone version to run as AMIGA and ATARI ST

Yes, I forgot MagiC. MagiC can boot from ROM and thus satisfies ThorstenOtto's personal definition of a real OS ;) This is a silly discussion. The fact that MiNT does not replace everything in TOS does not mean it's not a "proper" OS. Does that mean that TOS+NVDI is not a "proper"...

I think you have misunderstood. What does rsrc_saddr have to do with multiple RSC files? The answer is "Nothing".

Correct, but in this case I think "easier" is the keyword.

Re: rsrc_saddr where are some examples

An easy way to deal with multiple RSC-files in AES is to do something like this: 1. Load the first RSC. 2. Get the pointer(s) to the tree(s) in that RSC using rsrc_gaddr. Save these pointers. 3. Load the second RSC. 4. Get the pointer(s) to the tree(s) in that RSC using rsrc_gaddr. Save these pointe...

Re: Apollo Team announces developing of Vampire standalone version to run as AMIGA and ATARI ST

But this "philosophy" was introduced only later. When Mint was part of MultiTOS, there was no "underlying OS"; Mint itself was the OS that had to do all initialization itself. This is not correct. MiNT has always relied on TOS to set up and access the hardware. In the early days...

Re: Apollo Team announces developing of Vampire standalone version to run as AMIGA and ATARI ST

Thats only true for 040/060. For 030, it *will* do the setup itself. And i think the only reason for this is that at the time it was written, 040 primarly meant Milan/Hades, where there had more to be done than just setting up a page translation tree. The reason for doing this was to *not* have to ...

Re: ST with weird keyboard.

Why the crappy key caps? you can get stickers for any keyboard if you want another layout. Why do you think it's crappy? I have one, it's a *lot* better than the standard keys for typing. In addition to the new caps (which were designed to make it easier for your fingers to locate the keys) this ki...

Re: Apollo Team announces developing of Vampire standalone version to run as AMIGA and ATARI ST

First of all, FreeMiNT is not the only piece of software that would have to be adapted. TOS also use the PMMU. The reason FreeMiNT works on the Amiga (with or without 080) is that the hardware is already set up by the booting OS. This is the case on Ataris as well. On any PMMU-equipped Atari FreeMiN...

What about creating a simple patch-program that patches the user's file(s)? Distributing that shouldn't be a problem.

In that case you have to use both an additional port on your Atari AND a driver. Yes, it will work but... A much better solution is to make the mouse adapter an IKBD device that connects between the computer and keyboard.

Re: Inexpensive RTC just wire in?

Well, since the soundchip does not have open-collector/-drain outputs: how can you simultaneously have SDA (e.g. IOA7) as an input ... You can't. I was under the impression that the YM's IO-ports had open collector, but apparently it doesn't. So forget about this idea. You'll have to have some inte...

Re: Inexpensive RTC just wire in?

I2C has two signals - clock and data. Both are open collector. In an ST you can use the un-used IOA7 and very rarely used IOA6 (GPIO on the monitor port) on the soundchip for this purpose. As long as your RTC handles 5V signals no additional logic would be needed. Maybe a couple of pull-up resistors...

What kind of file is this? If it's a textfile you can normally recover it by piecing it together from raw sector data. Tedious, but not really difficult.

You mean modifying the I2C-routines in the MonSTer RTC driver? I guess so, depending on where you connect the RTC :) What kind of Atari do you want to use this in?

Re: Smally USB Mouse Adapter ...

No, it's not possible. This adapter - and any other adapter that connects to the mouse port - can only support the same features as Atari mice. To support wheel etc you must be able to generate the new IKBD packets for this, only an IKBD device like Eiffel can do that.

I've never used MP on the Milan. I tried it but Thing desktop didn't work so I switched MP off again. It's not Thing! that doesn't work, but some other application that tells Thing! to access PRIVATE memory via the AV-protocol. Mint on the Milan is very stable even without it and few apps crash.
