Re: Falcon 060 badges

Not sure if Atari actually sold the 4160, but they did make the badges. I have two of them, and they look *exactly* like the 520 badge I replaced. Some polish guy is creating badges and selling them on eBay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Atari-FALCON-030-Logo-Sticker-Badge-brushed-aluminum-100-x-10-mm-...

Re: Noob hardware questions

The V1.5 booster from here (https://www.exxoshost.co.uk/atari/last/storenew/) looks interesting. Anyone got one and if so does it make any noticeable difference to games such as these? I have one, and while I haven't tested it with Elite (a game that has never appealed to me for some reason) I have...

Re: Amikit style blob/OS for Atari?

Are there many dependencies in Atari land? Seems most are just on NVDI/GDOS. Compatible with MiNT or not? *Needs* MiNT or not? Compatible with XaAES? Compatible with N.AES? Compatible with Geneva? Works only with specific TOS-versions? Needs GDOS? Needs GDOS with vector fonts? Does not work with a ...

Re: Amikit style blob/OS for Atari?

I think when I first setup my Falcon I may have set it up with byte swapping, so Linux won't read it I connect the IDE SSD through USB You can always mount the drive in Aranym and/or Hatari. Not sure if the SD card from USD can be used directly on a cheapo SD-IDE adapter that you can get from China...

Re: Amikit style blob/OS for Atari?

We're talking about GEM applications here. There really is no "installation". You copy/unpack it to you harddrive and run it. There are exceptions - software may come with their own installer, often with encrypted files and a serial number. No "simple scripting language" can work...

Re: Amikit style blob/OS for Atari?

Anyway something that you can use to find and install software with just a few clicks. I have done quite a lot of work on something like this, and abandoned it. Even something as "simple" as you describe gets tricky when you start to run into special cases. Doable for sure, but the amount...

I tend to agree. What happened with "unpack - run"? Stuff like yum and rpm is totally overkill for GEM applications. Who will create, test and maintain the packages?

Re: Amikit style blob/OS for Atari?

Actually when I attempted VanillaMiNT on my TT it just crashed on start up. Or maybe I was trying it in Hatari first. VanillaMiNT is not set up for (or tested with) emulators, only real hardware. What I meant with application blobs is to have a workable system right out of the gate, like a Linux di...

Re: Amikit style blob/OS for Atari?

ST is the only (almost) platform VanillaMiNT *isn't* targeted towards. It's made primarily for Falcons and TT's.

What are you missing in VanillaMiNT? And what is an "integrated OS with applications blobs"?

IDE is an integral part of the Falcon custom chipset, so replacing it does not make sense.

I think you're a bit unfair here. Remember that the Falcon030 really wasn't a finished product, but a prototype that someone deemed "good enough" to manufacture while there still was a market for it.

Press Shift when MiNT's bootmenu is displayed. Choose to not start MiNT, you will now boot to TOS desktop. Delete c:/mint/video.cnf and reboot.

Interlace on the ST means two different framebuffers for the odd and even frames, I'm quite sure that EmuTOS' VDI isn't up to that without significant changes.

When desoldering chips that you're not going to reuse you first cut them up with pliers so you can desolder and remove each leg individually. Much easier than removing the complete chip, and much smaller risk to damage the PCB.

Re: CT60 + CTEX + ScreenEye review & experiments

Good point. And an even bigger problem is that it lifts the CT atleast 10mm, which - as you've already pointed out - makes it difficult to fit the fan inside a stock case.

To me it looks like the CTEX was mainly designed to create a through-port for the expansion port.

Re: CT60 + CTEX + ScreenEye review & experiments

There are solutions like this one: https://mnpctech.com/case-mods-gaming-p ... board.html I could be wrong here, but wouldn't that adapter be pointing the wrong way on a CT60? To me it looks like it will point the ATX socket towards the SIMM-slot. This is how I solved the "PicoPSU too tall to ...
