Re: GBA Core porting to Mister

Working here with GBA_20200222 and Main Mister from earlier this year and Foldername "01. Now playing"

Files inside can be seen, too. Only File extensions visible are .gb, .gbc and .gba

Re: SNES core

You need to either save manually in the OSD or enable autosave in OSD and open the OSD once before turning Mister off.
As it saves for you when loading another game, it seems you already have the autosave on.

Re: GBA Core porting to Mister

While my GBC core can play most GB games and about 80% of the gameboy color games, it's full of flaws, like wrong timing and unhandled edge cases. I would say, it's roughly in the shape of the GBA core at release time. So there is no point in releasing it compared to the existing GBC core. I'm reall...

Re: Core development workflows - time saving advice

My opinion: Everything that doesn't reach FPGA Pins: Simulation Everything that goes through FPGA Pins: Make as simple as possible and synthesize only this. If it's working, write a simulation model for the outside world and use this from there on. With those models nothings reaches FPGA Pins anymor...

Re: Chip8/SuperChip core

Great!
Now we finally have a Chip8 for Mister. :)

I already missed it some days ago.
It should be official, so the next one searching finds it.

Re: GBA Core porting to Mister

There is also a github entry for it, so yes it is known and part of the rewind capture. The core is halted for ~5ms once a second when creating the savestate for rewind, so this WILL create a (small?) glitch in audio and maybe also video. Also the gamespeed is reduced by 0.5%, which is probably not ...

Easiest would be to have a OSD option. Depending on how many different steps are required.

Yes, the reason is nobody implemented the GBA side accessing it yet :)

Re: GBA Core porting to Mister

There seems to be an issue with Shader Colors on VGA CRT (maybe also on VGA & 15Khz CRT?). For example playing Mario Kart on the main menu picture it shakes. If I change Shader Colors to something else than OFF the shake goes. But then when I go into the next screen it starts shaking and I have...

Re: GBA Core porting to Mister

The problem with that, is when using the very newest suite.gba, you would also need to use the very newest version of at least mGBA to be fair. So i usually test with the newest version of the testsuite, but i don't use the newest mGBA, so i only have the values Endrift tells me. If there is any pro...

Re: GBA Core porting to Mister

So here is a savestate from Ougon no Taiyou - Ushinawareshi Toki (Japan). I hope it will be useful for figuring out the priority issue. Great savestate, used it to fix the issue. It is checked in now. Hopefully the change doesn't break anything, as it's a quiet large change to the sprite priority/t...

Re: GBA Core porting to Mister

Sorry, but where is the formula in this thread? I got this formula from Soltan in discord for the "pixel shader calculating the gba colors": out_r = 0.845*r + 0.170*g - 0.015*b out_g = 0.090*r + 0.680*g + 0.230*b out_b = 0.160*r + 0.085*g + 0.755*b He also made compare images that look ver...

Re: GBA Core porting to Mister

I'm not sure what the reason could be. If it was loading in the first place, it looks more like a save-to-disk problem. Is it not loading at all or crashing/hanging after loading the state? If it's hanging, you can attach a savestate here and name the rom name(region does matter) and i can look into...

Re: GBA Core porting to Mister

I only tested once on Mister with saving directly in the osd and it was saved to disk, so i could load it after switched to another game and back.

If you did notice something weird, please report how to reproduce.

Re: GBA Core porting to Mister

it was supposed to be extremely difficult / unlikely to implement savestates That is how it was achieved! Calling things difficult increases the motivation :D There are 4 main things to save in GBA: 1: All the memories (WRAM, VRAM, OAM, Palette) 2: All GBA Registers 3: All internal states 4: Save m...

Re: GBA Core porting to Mister

Could you maybe retest with the latest release? There have been some fixes with the priority already. If it still happens it would be great if you could attach a savestate while the effect is present (when you stand "below" an iceblock) That way i can easily debug it. Mister savegames are ...

Re: GBA Core porting to Mister

Thanks for reporting!

Turbo breaks timing completely so it can crash games. There is nothing that can be done about that, except turning it off.

For the priority bug: i can take a look. In future, it would be great if you could add a screenshot of the effect.

Re: GBA Core porting to Mister

Thanks to you! Good to hear that this feature has a real advantage and is used. I still fear to use it, as i know what it does: it breakes the whole instruction timing completly. Not only is it fully wrong, it's random, too! However, this shows again that most GBA games don't need exact timing, just...

Re: GBA Core porting to Mister

As Minish Cap allows for a HUGE fastforward speed, this game has a lot of CPU reserves.
So with Turbo, the CPU has all the power it could take. If scrolling is still a problem, then it's related to how the games handles it.

So unless it's not better in mGBA or real GBA, i doubt we can do anything.

Re: Would a Super Gameboy core be technically possible?

I don't see why it would not be possible.
You are just asking for SGB playability, so even parts of the SNES would not be needed.

Probably it would be a lot easier to just change the handling of the GB-Core to behave as it would be a SGB.
