Re: Axial 4,700uF replacement prototype board.

You seem to not know about all the bad caps found these days in the old psu, and on the motherboards the issue start to show too. And it is a bulk capacitor, meaning it's role is important in powering the computer. People wanted this solution, I did not force it on anyone. Then I get shot down by W...

Re: Axial 4,700uF replacement prototype board.

It sounds like computer version of AudioVooDoo. Caps made in 80's & 90's still have better parameters than new ones. If you REALLY !!! want to replace caps why dont use a one that doesn't look wired?? W. *sigh* So capacitor technology obviously hasn't improved any in the last 20 years. Please r...

For the ST and STE, will you make a version using electrolytic caps, or ceramic caps ?

The board I stated in the first post, will replace all the 4,700 caps in any ST, STE,MEGA, Falcon etc. Producing that value in ceramics isn't realistic.

Don't get what you mean ? For the falcon there are lots of caps, I haven't looked what options there are for the values yet.

Re: STOS with 3d extensions installed

On another note Exxos I received today the 512k ram that i ordered from you on tuesday, fitted it and all is well. Only had the ST for about a week and the only one i could get with a joystick was a 520STFM as i had the 1040STFM back in the day so now I can play games i haven't played in over 20 od...

I've got the PCBs, Forgot to mention it :) Going to start assembly again hopefully next week.

Re: Overall strategy for hardware mods, upgrades, clones

When the day comes I leave the Atari world, everyone has my word that all my projects files from day 1 will be published. Stuff is already documented on my site as mentioned before away. I sincerely hope that day doesn't occur within my lifetime! :( I don't plan to retire anytime soon, though it de...

Oh now that an awesome price. Ok, tell me when you have some boards done then, i will buy them :) The PCB's are basically on order, likely be a couple of weeks. I guess it depends on how much customs rip me off for import duty more than anything for the price. Can't see it being far out from £7 any...

If you confirm, i will then buy one each for all my STs and STEs.

I am hoping to produce the kits for about £7.

Re: Overall strategy for hardware mods, upgrades, clones

All of these projects are awesome. I would be all about buying your boosters, but trying to figure out if they keep enough compatibility (I'd think so since they are switchable) to be worth it for me who owns almost the full line of STs. Even on top of that, I own a MiST as well. Each hardware chan...

Re: Axial 4,700uF replacement prototype board.

Those pads would be a very valuable addition to the design, and I appreciate your expertise in audio; I can hear capacitors "singing" a bit too well, to the point I can listen to my wireless mouse. RF interference somewhere. I remember years ago when I designed a radio receiver, if I tapp...

Chris, I can tell you people like myself appreciate everything you, Alan, Rudolph and the rest of the blokes here do. What you fellers do in your play time is astounding and from someone who has watched the development of Atari machines since around 1980 can only marvel at what you have done. What ...

Re: Overall strategy for hardware mods, upgrades, clones

Natami failed because the lead dev was sick of user's unrealistic expectations, took his ball and went home. This is the problem I have all the time. Even doing the boosters for example, next up is "why not alt-ram".. well ok, god dam wait.. that gets done, then its why no IDE.. why no ex...

If I order 250 caps the price comes right down, though thats like 32 boards.. I guess thats a sensible number to stock up on anyway.

Also depends if people want this as a kit, or assembled ?, as assembling stuff is very time consuming.

Re: 4MB Upgrade & 16MHz Booster progress

Small update, I have ordered the below PCB. It will adapt my dev-board to the SEC CPU. Will need some bodging to my PLD, but I thought its better to actually try this CPU's top speed before investing £100's in new booster PCB's. The SEC has to run at 50MHz or better to make it worthwhile doing a new...

Re: 4MB Upgrade & 16MHz Booster progress

Seem to remember when looking at the datasheets it was possible to ignore the 6800 bus and basically drive the 6800 signals in sync with the 68000 bus and assert DTACK as usual. It's also used for autovector interruptrs or something (VMA?) but I think you can do a similar thing by placing the vecto...

Re: Axial 4,700uF replacement prototype board.

I'd be interested in a small quantity of these (let's say 7 at most) to upgrade the machine collection my end. I am especially interested in one-shot replacements using ceramic SMTs where possible, as they will likely outlive the lifetime of the other components on the boards. However, ceramics or ...

Re: 4MB Upgrade & 16MHz Booster progress

Someone else did suggest that also. I think it would be a bad idea to try and use caches from stuff which can't be replaced. I mean SRAM should be around for a while yet, FPGA there likely always will be alternatives.. Mostly it would be better to use the 030 , but seems a bit of a waste of a CPU ju...

The joke is, they are willing! You (the community here) not! Its really laughable that you want help from the community to invest in apollo's design, and yet, wouldn't it make more sense for apollo to bring something to the table to aid in existing designs rather than slating their efforts and forc...

Interesting, so you mean Chris that the original value is not good enough, or is it something else ? They are 30 years old. All caps are failing these days. what this capacitor is doing exactly, and what is its role on the motherboard ? It's bulk capacitance for the board. Actually, the 4700uF 16V ...

I would suggest start with a more recent build of STOS first. http://www.exxoshost.co.uk/atari/STOSFLOPPY/index.htm I don't think STOS 3D is "installed" on any distro simply due to floppy space limits. You might want to try the 3D files on my site, I don't remember having any install issue...

Re: Overall strategy for hardware mods, upgrades, clones

Exxos, rpineau and all, I see the total solution in Vampire. It includes fast, fully compatible CPU (with throtteling) (PMMU is open topic, but let's wait...), Fastram, IDE/SD-Card-Support, Full-HD-Graphics card and much more in very small space which could fit in any ST series machines. One day wh...
