Re: AppleII+ core

Would it be a lot of work to support the .dsk format for this core? Most disk images out there are .dsk. The .nib format adds a volume label to it, and is only needed by multi disk games. I figure it would be possible to add the code of dsk2nib in the firmware? Then convert on the fly when selectin...

Re: Gamma correction

I'm not a pro with the fancy calibrations and color corrections and things, but gamma is IMHO the responsibility of the TV, not MiSTer. If your TV can't do it and you care a lot about gamma, then you should probably get a better display. Features aren't free in FPGA. They take up space and make it h...

Yeah, thanks furrtek, sorgelig , greyrogue and rysha. and of course to the original authors of the cores used(t80,jt*, ...) amazing work  Yeah too many people to remember.. not to mention all the patreon supporters. Re: Commando Arcade in MiSTer

Anyway, I agree . I will remove the pause feature, it is not realistic to have it on an arcade core. I will add a credits option using the P key or OSD to enable it. During credit display the gameplay will be halted as I need to share the same hardware to display the credits. Dude... That's just sp...

Re: Commando Arcade in MiSTer

I think a reasonable compromise would be to add an OSD option to disable the graffiti on the pause screen. Though I contribute to your Patreon, I am in the camp that finds built-in advertisements crass, and I always remove it in my own personal builds. You can say pausing is optional, just like extr...

Re: MiSTer NES Core

I noticed playing Faxanadu when entering buildings the Sprites fall down into position. This is noticeable in the starting town. Some places outside as well. Not the chapel though. I'm playing US. Maybe it's a setting I'm using? 719 build. Anyone else experience this? Is it different than real hard...

How is that possible?

Thank you.

To achieve this you have to mix in M&M minis while you compile. Don't use too many red ones or you may get runtime errors.

Re: SNES core

I can't release my tools. All my work is owned by my employer Toshiba. And it currently uses Synopsis Formality as the backend (although I'm looking into the free tool SymbiYosis) and licences cost $10000+. Point me to the VHDL and I'll convert the files. Depending on how many files and the complex...

Re: MiSTer NES Core

Anyone else having issues with the Famicom Disk System part of the Core? Seems to be an issue reading "Side B" of fds files post NES_20190510.rbf. I've tested the last 2 versions (NES_20190627.rbf & NES_20190703.rbf) and Side B gives "ERR 07". I generally use the manual disk...

Re: Would be possible Mame on Arm Soc like ScummVM?

I added some very basic ARM cross compiling instructions to the wiki here - https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Main_MiSTer/wiki/ARM-cross-compiling I think FBA, and SDLMame would probably compile up and run semi acceptably, I've had success porting that to various arm boards in the past, even on lower...

Re: SNES core

Slightly off topic but if anyone needs to convert VHDL -> Verilog (2001, 2009 or SystemVerilog) I worked on an automated tool to do it which uses Formality to prove it is logically identical to the VHDL. In 2001 mode it struggles with advanced use of records, particularly multidimensional arrays of...

Re: MiSTer NES Core

Rather than using headers as they're used traditionally would it maybe be an idea for the system to create a text database where it saves details of the different ROMs by ROM name and the header details as well as settings for that particular game and refers to the database whenever a game is loade...

Re: MiSTer NES Core

Sounds good for the core itself! But why should one fix any headers when these above are the official verified romsets? I prefer original non modified sets. A cart is more than just ROM data. It has a hardware configuration as well, which must be described accurately. This is what a header...

Please forgive my ignorance on who is the creator of the current PC Engine CD core work. Will the source code eventually be out there for others to pick up if the interest otherwise stagnates? If you want to work on this, go ahead and do so. Nobody is currently working on this in a capacity that wi...

Re: Would be possible Mame on Arm Soc like ScummVM?

When i was thinking about new FPGA project (it even had no name) many knowledgeable FPGA devs said that HDMI won't work. It's completely wrong way. It has a lot of limitations, etc, etc... If i would listen to them the MiSTer wouldn't appear. Sometimes experiments look weird and wrong in the beginn...

Re: Would be possible Mame on Arm Soc like ScummVM?

When expanding the scope of a project, I don't think "throw everything against the wall and see what sticks" is really the best attitude. From a developer/science perspective maybe it's interesting to see what almost works, but from a users perspective they go through all kinds of frustrat...

Re: Would be possible Mame on Arm Soc like ScummVM?

No matter how much you torture the code, you're not going to performance even as good as a raspberry pi 2. "Hybrid" emulation is fairy dust at this point, the effort of making someone elses software work with fpga hardware is probably more difficult than just rewriting the core in HDL full...

pick any modern projects (snes, nes, genesis, etc) and take a look in /sys for HPS_IO.sv This will show you most of what you need to know about that is sent from the HPS side of the platform. Re: MISTer (Main Core)

Would it be a problem if I add a small commit to make the core create a ROM folder for itself when the user chooses to load a file from the OSD? I can't think of a situation where you wouldn't want this behavior.
