Re: 2600 - best video out option?

Here is the comp mod installed. After coming to the conclusion it was probably the comp cable I experimented moving it about inside the case and that also made a difference. EA54E2A7-9F7F-4B77-BD2A-7D2B13424F57.jpeg I notice that other comp mods show taking the video signal etc. from the PCB directl...

Re: 2600 - best video out option?

I bought a game and plugged it in to test (no controllers plugged in) and no band going up the screen! I plugged in a joystick and the bands came back. Clearly to do with the joysticks I thought. I cleaned the connectors and pins etc. and it made no difference. I resoldered the connectors and checke...

2600 - best video out option?

I have just got a 6 switch woody 2600 and composite modded it using the following:- https://www.thefuturewas8bit.com/shop/atari/deluxe-atari-composite-video-mod.html On LCD tellies the result varies from poor to awful with large bands going up the screen (fairly slowly - maybe 2 to 3 seconds from bo...

Re: 2600 mods

I have just got a 2600 (6 switch woody) and a composite video conversion kit but not fitted it yet. Is there anything else that is done on these as a matter of course? E.g. new voltage regulator and capacitors etc.?

Many thanks.

Worth taking a look at

I have seem similar threads in other sites so thought I would start this here. This one is nothing to do with me but strikes me as being a pretty good price in the UK. Sadly I don’t have the space to make use of it. https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Atari-1040-ST-Computer-with-new-version-of-Cubase-4-meg-upg...

Re: Noob hardware questions

The V1.5 booster from here (https://www.exxoshost.co.uk/atari/last/storenew/) looks interesting. Anyone got one and if so does it make any noticeable difference to games such as these? I have one, and while I haven't tested it with Elite (a game that has never appealed to me for some reason) I have...

I have been looking for an older laptop with a built in floppy. I don’t have space to put an old desktop anywhere.

Re: Frontier Elite poor frame rate - booster required!

check my post history, I think my first post is a long writeup of my experience installing Exxos mods in an stf I also play Elite Dangerous in VR (with cool controllers too) o7 Ok - that sounds somewhat above my skill level! I may end up paying the same people who did my RAM to fit the CPU and fast...

Re: Frontier Elite poor frame rate - booster required!

Run the PC version on DOSBox I know that is the sensible thing to do but I find old games irritating in an emulator on a modern PC but enjoyable on the original hardware! Its hard to explain. By way of example I tried Bards Tale on an Apple emulator a while back before getting an Apple IIe. I found...

Re: Frontier Elite poor frame rate - booster required!

The problem with Frontier was.. despite its undoubted technical brilliance... it was absolutely no fun to play whatsoever, especially compared to the original. Everything you describe matches my experience with the game, made worse by the poor performance you mention and the fact the the Newtonian ...

Re: BBC Micro

Regular and tube enhanced Elite both pushed the beeb quite hard and used split screen modes - the top half of the screen was a higher resolution mode with two colours (more on the enhanced version) and the bottom half lower resolution with more colours. Revolutionary for the time! This makes it more...

Frontier Elite poor frame rate - booster required!

Back in the day when the 486 was still the King of the PC (P60’s being way too expensive) I had an Escom 486 DX4 100. I saw a copy of Frontier Elite in a shop and being a fan of it on the beeb immediately bought a copy. I loaded it up. Configured my EMS and the other things that you had to do to run...

Re: Trying to find the name of an adventure game

My ST is back and working! My external floppy drive has formatted a disc which the ST can see ok and it can also list the files on there ok. The million dollar question is how do I get a game image on the disc. Obviously just copying it across won’t work so I assume I need an installed program to wr...

Re: Noob hardware questions

Hopefully my ST will be back with me in the next week or so, fixed and upgraded to 4MB of RAM. In preparation I have bought a copy of Frontier Elite 2 as I used to play this on the PC BITD. From what I have read recently it seems the frame rate on a 520STFM will not be brilliant. Is there anything t...

Re: Noob hardware questions

Only TOS 1.0 can be problematic for hard disk management, so use the SYSINFO program on your Atari and find out what TOS has installed. Is this built into the ST or loaded from disc? I don’t have any kind of system disc with it - just a bunch of games. Not built in. Get it here . A lot of other gre...

Re: Noob hardware questions

Thanks for all the detail. It may have been an ultraSatan to be fair. To be honest if it loads from a standard satan disc as fast / faster than floppy then that is good enough for me. I don’t have loads of spare cash at the moment. Repairs + 4 meg of RAM and a basic satandisc will come to about £150...

Peter Putnik has more than a thousand games adapted for HD, CF, SD, Pendrive ... etc; most need 2 Mby or more of RAM. If you spend money on expanding the ST's RAM: do it for 4 Mby. http://atari.8bitchip.info/fromhd2.php Gotek is very limited, to work as hard disk with an SD card there is a "Sa...
