Re: Alien world 1 x original disk - download anywhere?

Yes, this was also a problem on an Amiga game I cracked (Scrappy + Scooby-Doo) from Hi-Tec. The end credits screen was stored on tracks 81-83 which made it unreadable on most drives - I guess just like Alien World, no-one tested the final version to the end!

Re: Alien world 1 x original disk - download anywhere?

I cracked the ST version of Alien World for a tutorial (comparing Amiga/ST versions), and discovered that the "END.DTA" file was incomplete because it stopped writing to the disk on track 79 but there was still 30+k of the file missing compared with the same file from the Amiga version. Wh...

Re: ST cracking tutorial

AtariZoll: Yes I'm aware using an emulators built-in debugger is a much better modern way of working - the point of the tutorial (and all the tutorials on Flashtro) is to re-visit the past and use the tools + techniques that were available at the time to crack the games in the same way as they were ...

Re: ST cracking tutorial

Thanks all, glad some people read/liked it. Am I missing any really obvious techniques/tools that were used "back in the day" on ST? Some awesome cartridge/hardware that I am unaware of? What about the actual transfer of protected disks over modem - on the Amiga we used "warpers"...

ST cracking tutorial

Hi, Just thought I should mention that I've written a tutorial on ST cracking (specifically the game "Alien World" (c) Hi-Tec) that was published recently over at http://www.flashtro.com . It might be of interest to some people, even if I'm not really the person to be writing on the topic :)

Re: Display Trick Idea - would like some thoughts...

The "RGB plasmas" you refer to on the Amiga were done with a calculated 'pattern' as you guessed, h/w scrolling used to "wobble" per scanline with the R/G/B colours handled separately and 'mixed' into the copperlist with the Blitter. The 4x4 rotozoomers are done simply by having ...

Re: Little devpack question

Devpac is assembling an ST executable (.PRG), not a data file... from quickly looking at Devpac it doesn't seem to support writing raw binary data directly. However, you can use the MONST (Devpac->Program->Mon or ALT+M) monitor to save the correct chunk of ram (in Mon):- CTRL+S, then just give it &q...

Re: Dragon Ninja STe only / Les Justiciers

Maartau: Ah yes I see it now, stupid TOS check that fails on STE's... I was just confused because on the Amiga (which I am much more comfortable cracking on!) there is nothing OS-specific, the only reason Copylock breaks on newer Amigas is because they contain non-68000 with different stack frames. ...

Re: Dragon Ninja STe only / Les Justiciers

First releases of D.Ninja didn't run on STE due to the Rob N. copylock.

Maartau: Can you explain why Copylock would fail on STE? I thought it was still a 68000 cpu, so why would the trace vector decode stuff fail here?

Re: Another Amiga comparison...Timer B vs Copper

The copper can do so much more than just change colours (rasters)! Can write to all hardware registers, allowing you to change screen modes/widths per line, set hardware scroll multiple times per line (useful for horizontal resizing effects), trigger blitter operations, etc. etc... Really it's like ...

Re: Showing part of an image - missing bitplane ?

Just keep in mind that all the D*** loop instructions (DBRA, DBF, etc) loop until the register passes zero , not until it equals zero . An easy way to keep this straight in your head is to always write:- move.w #1024-1,d7 rather than:- move.w #1023,d7 As far as creating 'blocks' of data, if you're n...

Re: Best way to display pics more than 16 cols.

Glad you got it working, but I think you need to pay a little more attention to your .W's and .L's - this is why your previous version didn't work, and why there is a bug in your current version :)

Re: simple (?) cls routine to clear half the screen

Your code is correct, you've just confused yourself somewhere along the line. You say you 'show 20 words', but actually you 'show 20 LONGwords', that's all! There are some obvious speedups (lea not adda.l #imm, pc-relative addressing of pic/screenbuff where possible, and the biggest one - unrolled l...

The music sounds really good, I'll probably buy swap since sometimes I like passing some time on that style of game. The music in the jump trailer was excellent but I really didn't fancy the game itself :P

My favourite answer to "Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?" is usually a glance at the watch, followed by "still sitting here, probably".
On second thoughts, that's probably why I work for myself these days...

There were a few early amiga cracks by Medway Boys + A-Ha, also a couple by Delta Force (Chaos Inc maybe?).
Also R.Al and possibly other Replicants cracked some Amiga titles for the famous French amiga group "Ackerlight".

The problem seems to be resolved (any 9 sector/track normal blank disks created under Steem are unusable for me it seems) - as soon as I create a "non-standard" 10sector/track DS disk image, I can disasm to it, save sectors to it and generally do whatever I like with it. Thanks for the res...

Hi, Probably a simple error on my part, but... I installed the PASTI dll (0.2h) with Steem 3.2, in order to check out a few copy-protected games... The problem is, whenever Pasti is enabled, any/all disk images inserted (including new blank disk images, inserted into either drive A or B doesn't matt...
