Re: Noobs use C, real programmers use Basic

In the end, what matters is the end result. I prefer C, but there are extremely talented and productive people out there who have released major applications written in e.g. GFA Basic (which btw is actually maintained).

Come on ranix. That's uncalled for. You're given a great piece of software for free. Say thankyou, appologize and move on.

Hats off to Copson and co! Amazing software, sound quality us great and technically it's an unholy achievement.

Big thanks!

Hey guys you know what ? The Falcon is going to leave the desk to free some more room for the Archies and the Q68. @Sturm : I was not trying to get some 'help' and whatever 'God' your Mikro can be, he is not among those I worship. Re: Five finger death punch on zx spectrum

you're probably all joking: it's possible to get up to 16 channels on beeper music, and some engines like Octode can play 8 channels with drums (like this one: http://battleofthebits.org/arena/Entry/Interstellar+Drift/16364/ ) There are several new incredible 1bit engines released even nowadays, an...

Re: Five finger death punch on zx spectrum

Yep, it does. With some clever modulation techniques, one can nevertheless achieve some pretty decent results. Just listen to the Cobra intro music, for example. Very creative use of that single-bit beeper!

Re: Five finger death punch on zx spectrum

It's not even a two-channel tone generator; the beeper membrane state is controlled directly by the CPU, and it's either on or off. There are no channels, nothing is timer-controlled, it's all CPU.

Hardcore.

Re: ST emulators on Milan

If one settles for a semi-virtualised 68000 (virtualise Supervisor, emulate stack frame format etc), and non-cycle accuracy, one can probably make a fairly useful emulator even though some stuff will fail on it.

Re: [Q] Setting video mode with Falcon compatible resolution

The extension flag is needed for resolutions which are "non-typical" for the VIDEL, e.g. 32bpp modes, or modes which takes up a lot of video RAM. Apart from enabling these resolutions, it also changes which hardware registers that are used to set the screen address/mode, and where the actu...

The TOS4 AES/Desktop works on plain STs as well (there's a binary in the leaked/incomplete TOS source code on Lonnys site IIRC).

Re: EmuTOS 0.9.9

So, it is EMU comes from EMUlate... but it is a bad emulator as it cannot "reproduce the function or action of" TOS. So i think going by names of BIRDS as what Atari did for Sparrows and Falcon would be a better explanation. Come on wongck. Unless EmuTOS turns into a 1:1 binary copy of TO...

maybe size , or that's irrelevant? Remove all blank lines and comments, also make sure to keep variable names as short as possible - preferably single letters only. Avoid loops and consitionals at all cost, and make sure to write all your code as a single function. Function calls are generally bad ...

Yeah but that is VDI requiring "workstations" and whatever to be configured. My code is supposed to work with .TOS and .TTP programs for AUTO folder use. So VDI and AES calls are not really what I am looking for. But thanks for mentioning them. Environment variables LINES/ROWS and COLUMNS...

Re: [SOLVED] What IPL is a TRAP exception?

OK, I'm an idiot. $4ba = 1210. 1210 / 4 = 302.5, i.e. I can't use Setexc! In reality I'm reading content of 302*4 = $4b8, i.e. unused/undocumented variable. I should have known better, right? Sigh. Brainfart. Ssystem() does the trick, but then again you're stuck in the FreeMiNT domain in such case.
