Atari TT bundle and Crazy Dots

Regrettably I'll have to sell my (small) Atari collection including it's pride: the Atari TT... It's not going to be cheap (!) but it's somewhat "special"... It's in very good condition and has a few addons: - brand new UK layout keyboard (yes - not a typo. Purchased from bestelectronics a...

Re: dead Falcon

No need for a stencil if you want to solder QFP package. Just look at some youtube videos how other people do it. You just need standard soldering equipment plus 1.5mm .. 2mm desoldering wick. Well... there's no need for a car if you want to walk for 100km... but it's certainly easier and faster wi...

Re: dead Falcon

The thing is that reset and halt signals seem to be correct (see previous posts) - reset switch was faulty but I replaced it and it's all ok now (ie signals on cpu). As for he history - I'm pretty sure cpu has been replaced at some point and that chip mentioned above has been tinkered with. I'll rep...

Re: dead Falcon

You really need to get that diag cartridge up and running to get some helpful advice. I'd love to but the falcon is dead to the point diagnostic cartridge doesn't help ie. it does nothing... No output at all. What do you read a serial output with, if I may ask? Serial console/tera term. Works perfe...

Re: dead Falcon

I have diag cart (as I mentioned in this topic) and it gives zero output (neither to screen nor serial port...). I will definitely have to replace STV8438 - several pins are not soldered at all (they have solde paste on them but somebody apparently forgot to apply heat ;)) Anyway - does anybody know...

Re: dead Falcon

OK - I managed to get green screen (with some noise)... I also noticed that somebody was very interested in STV8438 as there are signs of it being removed... but - I don't think STV8438 is the source of the problem (as my diag cart should work over the serial ie. witbhout the screen and it doesn't.....

Re: dead Falcon

Thanks! Now - the zip has .GAL and .JED files - any idea how to program the GALS using "universal" eprom programmer (that supports GALs)? EDIT: OK - I think it's JED files that I need to use... I downloaded original GAL content (JED) and they seem to be exactly the same so I'm guessing the...

Re: Atari Test Cart

Why use uv eproms anyway? Just buy flash eproms eg. AT29C256 and you'll be able to reuse them...
or buy one of my multicarts ;)

Re: dead Falcon

There don't seem to be anything on the CPU (although I'm pretty sure it has been replaced previously). I'll post the picture later this evening. Any idea why it won't switch to 16mhz and stays at 8mhz...? As for the PALs/GALs - can somebody tell me where they are on the motherboard? I don't know if ...

Re: dead Falcon

yes - the jumper is there (pins 20-22)... TOS reseated... Still dead...
I'm a bit concerned about a resistor between Y2 and U58 (picture attached) but it may be from factory (this is rather early falcon as far as I can see)...
Anyway - I'm stuck. (And I'm in Ireland)...

Atari FTP

Dear Atari fans. There's a well known FTP server hosting all sorts of Atari stuff: ftp://ftp.pigwa.net/ (just use anonymous/email-address username/password) that needs some tlc. Good folks who take care of the server want to rebuild it and need some funds. Please help if you can - any change will do...

Re: FPGA graphic card

I'd go for at least 1280x1024 (and let FPGA do buffer swapping). 1280x720 is not really usable on a computer that was designed for (more or less) 4x3 aspect ratio.

Gents, thanks for your help and advice... Being an engineer (!) I don't give up so easily ;) It appears that on my PLCC44-DIP40 adapter pins are perfect match except... NC and GND which are simply switched/reversed... So I dd a simple "patch" (simply bridging pins 12/13 and 33/34) and my A...

Re: Falcon diagnostic cart

Unfortunately my programmer (minipro) doesn't support AT27C4096 in PLCC form... I assumed it does as DIP40 is listed as supported and PLCC-DIP adapter matches the pinouts... But it doesn't work... I guess I'll have to live without that cart...
