Re: PDP-1 core

as the DEC T-11 is used in some arcade early Atari ones, your PDP-1 core will be useful for them. Thanks! How? the PDP-1 and the T-11 are not really related? I think the T-11 has the PDP-11 instruction set, not the PDP-1. However, there are some FPGA implementations of PDP-11 I know of (PDP2011) wh...

Re: PDP-1 core

I downloaded all the music paper tapes and they did make a lot of them. Is it possible to add such a thing to this core? It really is amazing what they did with the PDP1, this core has me learning about it now. Irregardless my favorite screensaver now is the snowflake, trying to get munching square...

Re: PDP-1 core

I spent some time today messing with this core and it is cool. Very well done core and I love how you set it up with the screens and switches. Thanks! You are very welcome! It is still far from finished, but here is a sneak peek at what else the PDP-1 could do - music! https://www.youtube.com/watch...

Re: New core - ORAO

Great work! Can you please change the name from ORAO_181230.rbf to ORAO_20181230.rbf for compatibility with the updater? Thank you in advance. Best regards. Locutus73 Done. Sorry for mixing up the format in the first place, but I remembered this time to give a shorter name to the core! :) ...

New core - ORAO

Hello folks, Since you already have C64's, Spectrums, Amigas and other popular cores, I've tried to make something little less known. It's called ORAO, a vintage 80-ies computer from Croatia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orao_(computer) which could be interesting to people from the Balkans. Many kid...

A bit simplistic but gets the point.

That's very interesting, and seeing the PDP-1 in it is awesome... not many references to it in popular culture.

I know it's a bit radom, but my heartfelt thanks goes to you, Sorgelig, and the other devs for making this little moment possible. :D You made my day :) Thanks for the kind words, it was a privilege helping you have a moment with your family. I hope my son will like it when he grows up! Happy holid...

Re: PDP-1 core

If was just asking, because most cores have a special named folder for roms/programs, which is navigated first automatically, when loading roms. So you don't have to remember, which folder is the right one. It is just a comfort thing. Oh, I didn't know that, that's cool! If anyone can shed some lig...

Re: PDP-1 core

May be it would be better to rename the project to PDP1 both internally (for folder name) and externally (for project repository name) if hrvoje agrees, then no problem to rename the repository to PDP1_MiSTer Of course, that would probably be the most intuitive name. Where do I define the name inte...

Re: PDP-1 core

Maybe I'm blind, but I can't find the information how the folder name for paper tape images should be called? I don't think there is a special rule, they are placed on the SD card wherever you find convenient and loaded by first activating the RIM mode (F10 or from OSD menu) and then choosing load ...

It's a great feeling being able to contribute a core and I'm planning to create more.

PDP-1 core

Hello all, I've made a new core from scratch specific for the MiSTer. It's the implementation of DEC PDP-1, a platform where the first real computer game (Spacewar!) was made. Now you can play it on your favorite platform too, and run other programs as well. This might not be too popular because of ...

Re: Core porting, empty template?

MiSTer sets resolution according to ini regardless default resolution in the core. I'm trying the open source scaler (from Arcade-Sinistar) and it compiles very fast, but the image looks much worse than VIP. EDIT: I'm stupid, copying the sys folder from Arcade Sinistar messed up my PLL settings. It...

Re: Core porting, empty template?

default HDMI resolution is 720p. Interlaced HDMI output is not implemented. Thanks for the tip, I didn't know that. I started with Arcade-Defender as my template and its sys_top.v specifies: //1920x1080@60 PCLK=148.5MHz CEA reg [11:0] WIDTH = 1920; reg [11:0] HEIGHT = 1080; ... Arcade-Galaga has //...

Re: Core porting, empty template?

Long time without a reply, but I wasn't idle - the core is operational and not that awful. I plan to release the sources before the month is over. Can't build the RBF with VIP scaler / HDMI since I don't have a full Quartus Prime. I know it's not the greatest contribution to MiSTer due to limited so...

Re: Core porting, empty template?

ioctl_* is for downloading the whole file at once. You cannot pause it. You can download it whole to SDRAM or DDR3 and then use from there at any rate you want. Another way is to mount the file (sd_* signals) and read/write it by blocks (512b) at any pace you want. You can see how these signals are...

Re: Core porting, empty template?

Cores cannot output text to popup. As you may already know HDL is not so friendly with text string handling. Usually emulated systems are self-contained, so they output text using emulated system resources. For extensive overlay graphics probably you need to add second softCPU with its firmware and...

Re: Core porting, empty template?

Hello Sorgelig, I've made some progress - core seems to be working relatively stable. I'm still sometimes seeing timing issues which are probably beyond my skill set to solve at this point, but I'm learning. Is there any way to write text to something like a popup box and display it to the user as a...

Re: Core porting, empty template?

bits 0..3 are directions (check any arcade core to make sure which direction of each bit). bits 4..15 are buttons according to OSD option J - you can check arcade cores as well for example J usage. J1 means lock the keyboard in joystick emulation - useful for keyboard-less cores. logic 1 - button i...

Re: Core porting, empty template?

Should I just plug the horizontal/vertical sync and R, G, B as input to an instance of video_mixer module? yes. And it's very important to provide HBlank and VBlank signals as well. Also i suggest to use video_cleaner module right after your module which will align the signal properly. After some w...

Re: Core porting, empty template?

Actually, you can take even Genesis core - it has simple connection to MiSTer API and includes all latest changes to API and framework. After a lot of fiddling around, I did manage to compile the Jupiter ACE with Quartus 16.1, so the first milestone is achieved. Lesson learned - the lite version is...
