Re: Is my DE10-Nano Broken?

My MiSTer randomly stopped booting. I'm sorry If I'm asking something very obvious: do you have an active cooling installed on your mister? You mentioned removing add-on boards - that may mean you no longer have your fan blowing on the FPGA chip. Active cooling ( the lack of) is one of the main rea...

Re: Component output slightly jumpy

Edit: removed, wrong post (I just read the post carefully and realised the poster uses Component - that is YPbPr input, not VGA and nor Composite). I might be wrong but once the VGA scaler is disabled the YPbPr may not be supported on all cores.

Re: Would be possible Mame on Arm Soc like ScummVM?

The source code for FB and Alsa port of MAME is here if anybody would like to try:
https://app.box.com/s/n6conw1bb4f83nqgytrefggmx6lcdbsa

unpack on target ARM machine and run ./compile_fb.sh which should produce an executable if compiler, all headers and libraries (alsa) are installed.

Re: Would be possible Mame on Arm Soc like ScummVM?

I think GLES is not used for many arcade emulators. Still interesting to see performance of arcade HW like M72. Does it really needs GLES? GLEs is not required. MAME has a software renderer (it is used for saving screen shots) that renders the graphics primitives into a memory buffer and then it is...

Re: Would be possible Mame on Arm Soc like ScummVM?

Most likely MAME needs some sort of 2D graphics acceleration to have a good speed of emulation. But it would be interesting to see the MAME port and it's performance. Depends which machines are emulated. By my experience from porting MAME on BananaPi (Dual Cortex-A7 at 1GHz) 2D machines up to year ...

Were you using the browser version of Discord or one of the desktop or mobile apps? Thank you for your info. I used web browser (Firefox, 67.0.2 (64-bit)) to open the link posted on the first message of this thread. When hovering mouse pointer over the MiSTer icon (as indicated on your image) the s...

Re: Classic Gaming [Discord Server] - MiSTer Community

I've never used Discord before, so I thought to give it a try and read a bit what people are discussing about MiSTer, but unfortunately it does not seem to work for me. What I did: - I clicked on the link - chose my username - cancelled the email nagging popup - read the intro channel asking me to &...

Re: MISTer on DE0-nano-SoCKit?

I've released an updated de0ns SDcard image (release2). It has the new partition layout, requires 8GB SDcard (or bigger) and has few more cores: * BBCMicro (stripped BBCMaster from the Beeb core because of the lack of BRAM resources on de0ns) * SNES: only supports bare carts without DSP and coproces...

Re: MISTer on DE0-nano-SoCKit?

Are there any cores that have serial output, even if only for debug? The de0ns board itself has serial output which is connected to Linux. Unfortunately the older revision of my ioboard (for de0ns) does not expose extra pins on the arduino connector so you'll have to either use the LED pins or SD-c...

Re: MISTer on DE0-nano-SoCKit?

I can send you my development IO board (patched 0.2b) with SDRAM module if you are happy to pay the postage to the US from Europe. Just bear in mind it does not have HDMI so you have to connect it to VGA or RGB monitor (either SCART TV or to 15kHz Arcade monitor). Also the cores for de0ns are quite ...

Re: New member introduction and a question: alternative board: DE1-SOC ?

- For the menu and amstrad cores I've tried, there is no difference between setting or not the VERILOG macro LITE in the project settings, only a light version without vip.sys is generated. Is it how it should be ? LITE macro used to disable compilation of proprietary video scaler IP block in order...

Re: Show us your MiSTer hardware setup

Here is mine. Built in the ODROID case (I know it's cheating :D ) which already contains USB hub. Note that my mister uses DE0-ns which is ~10mm less wide than DE10-nano therefore has more room for internal connectors. On the right side of the case there is VGA, Audio socket and USB serial.

Re: New member introduction and a question: alternative board: DE1-SOC ?

Surely MiSTer can be ported to this board. There is already port to DE0-SocKit (probably abandoned). Correct, AFAIK nobody else except me is using DE0-ns for MiSTer. I still compile new cores (resource depending) or port fixes to existing cores from time to time, but don't do releases as there is n...

That's correct, the lag might even increase. Regarding the 'bad colors and blurry' I thought that's what is considered an 'authentic look' :D

VGA out on the BBC Micro core has a jiggling effect for me I've captured it here bit can't upload it because of the 500KB limit, but I can share if needed. I don't have this with any other core and it's the same no matter what software I load on the BBC. See my post about 5 items above for a partia...

Ok the boot.rom mechanism works on my side but I only have video on HDMI, nothing on VGA. Try my unofficial release of MiSTer main (see above) which detects the copier header in the carts and skips it. It may help to fix some of the 'black screen' issues.

Re: SNES core

you need to use any game ROM as a boot.rom, so SNES will start with preloaded game and will provide the video. Thanks. that was it. Furthermore the carts I downloaded were SMC format, therefore containing 512 byte copier header. This needs to be skipped in order to read the raw cart data. I've made...

Re: Alternative developemnt FPGA boards for hobbyists

I just don't understand what DE10-nano is doing here. It's an affordable FPGA board with plenty of resources, I think it should be in the list. Terasic produces several boards below 150USD. DE0-nano, DE0-nano-SoC, DE10-lite, DE1. These boards are indeed fine for tinkering and there is plenty of oth...
