Re: USB Hub board

Nice, I'll take a look whether I could fit smaller version of this with 2 (possibly 3) usb ports directly on my de0-ns IO board - as an optional add-on.

Re: NeoGeo FPGA recreation crowdfunding !

I don't know whether you follow furrtek's progress in his NeoGeo fpga research, but he seems to be very dedicated to the project. He just recently posted another update with really good results.

Re: MiSTer in Pi-top case

I had a look at the wiki page and there is definitely quite a lot of effort invested into the Pi-top MiSTer project. It's impressive, congrats. BTW. it makes a cool Amiga laptop as well.

Re: Checksums for Arcade Rom's (MD5)

What about slightly different idea: - The roms would be still zipped in the same form as required for MAME (and stored on SD card in zipped form) - The unzipping and final assembly into single file would be done by MiSTer_main, just before sending it to the Arcade core. It could verify the zip consi...

Re: SDRAM board

I found another SDRAM chip with the same achieved speed. It's Winbond W9825G6KH-6 . OK, that supports my find of w9825g6jh-6 I wrote earlier in DE0-ns thread. JH seems to be obsolete by now though, so KH might be its successor. By trial in my conditions the w9825g6jh-6 is less affected by the PLL s...

I use cheap PAM8403 module from ebay. It's powered by 5V only, so it's not very loud, but it's small, cheap and simple to plug in (module contains the passives).

Is there anyway to test the FPGA to see if it is working correctly? ... but all I get after selecting the NES core is a black screen. ... If you see the menu on the screen and can also run the memtest then your FPGA is working correctly. What you can try is to use some older releases of the cores. ...

Re: MISTer on DE0-nano-SoCKit?

I made forks of 2 MiSTer cores source code to demonstrate the changes required for the de0ns core port. Changes in all other cores have the same pattern so use these as template. If required I can fork more of the cores for the sake of completeness. menu: https://github.com/ole00/Menu_MiSTer.git zxs...

It could be a mini-Mister if could be possible to add SDRAM.

Well, why not call it MiniSTer then? :D

Re: MiSTer on DE10-Standard - needed?

I Like the Chameleon96 board as well. Maybe one of these new Hyper SRAMS from ISSI could be used - they run on 1.8V and have low pin count (24 pins) while still reasonable speed (166 MHz clock, 36ns access time) and size (16Mbytes). Unfortunately so far they are BGA only, although the pads are space...

Re: MiSTer in arcade cabinet

I made a JAMMA board in the past (see https://github.com/ole00/orb/blob/master/images/orb02_no_sbc.jpg). I'm pretty sure a similar IO board can be made for MiSTer to accommodate DE10 (or DE0ns). My idea of handling joysticks is to use a Bluepill (with ARM Cortex M chip) board to implement USB device...

Re: MISTer on DE0-nano-SoCKit?

Thank you for the tips. I managed to fix the board/SD card so it boots fine now. It was probably some corruption on SD card, because when I re-created the SD card from scratch I could boot normally (after replacing the menu.rbf file). As I wrote earlier, I power cycled the board while it was booting...

Re: MISTer on DE0-nano-SoCKit?

Thanks. I've managed to semi-brick my de0ns. By that I mean I can no longer load menu.rbf after boot. What I get is this message GPI[31]==1. FPGA is uninitialized or incompatible core loaded. My board still works, I can load menu.sof via Quartus Tools->Programmer. The menu loads and from there I can...

Re: Core porting questions

Thanks for the tips. I've managed to find the RAM definition in apple ii core and decrease it from 256kb to 128kb. The core now builds and I can run some games on it as well. I understand that some software that requires more than 128kb will not run, but still better than not having the core at all....

However, the current design needs more than 270 to succe...

Re: MiSTer on DE10-Standard - needed?

For me DE10-standard is too expensive, but there is the DE1-Soc which has almost the same specs as DE10-standard ('only' 85k of LE) and is $100 cheaper. I'm happy with my DE0ns at the moment, but the VGA scaler would be handy (not that I could compile non-lite version of it anyway...)

Re: MISTer on DE0-nano-SoCKit?

Update: I received IO boards v. 0.2d from pcbway and assembled one of the board over the weekend to verify the design. All seems to work fine, no hacks/fix-ups were required this time. So I've published the gerbers and BOM on my github. The next step is to prepare an SDcard image with some cores to ...

Re: Buy / Sell MiSTer Expansion Boards

I don't see this project having a following if people can't get their hands on an assembled I/O board. You don't need assembled IO board to run MiSTer on DE10. You can run most of the cores without it. What you probably need is the SDRAM board as many MiSTer cores depend on it. For me personally, t...

Re: MISTer on DE0-nano-SoCKit?

i think, pre-heating requirement is too exaggerated. I agree, the problem with my previous SDRAM boards was different (IC brand, speed rating, old PLL settings in memtest, ect.), but I actually meant something else. What I meant is to use preheating station as a reflow station, so that I don't have...

Re: MISTer on DE0-nano-SoCKit?

So simple scandoubler won't work. Understood - VGA out would have to use the same principle as HDMI on de10-nano: which is independent VGA signal generator (not tied to minimig core 15kHz video out) that is fed by some sort of scaler. On the other hand minimig (original project) and MiST must have ...

Re: MISTer on DE0-nano-SoCKit?

Thanks for the ideas. Just to clarify, It was me who gave up after 3 hours of memtesting, not the DE0-ns :) I just didn't see any point of testing longer when there were 0 errors and so many exciting things to run on MiSTer... I've noticed the minimig core was recently updated and because my previou...

Re: MISTer on DE0-nano-SoCKit?

Just an update, I was able to run the SDRAM on 150MHz for more than 3 hours with 0 errors, then gave up. I also connected a heat sink and a fan (Sunon MC25100V2-000U-A99, Vapo-Bearing, 16.0dB). I found out the fan works when powered by 3.3V (spec. is 5V) with lower RPM (although it is not advertised...
