Re: Call for (not so technical) questions -- Atari's product manager 1991-96

Probably not a very interesting question but I've always been curious to know what the hand written code on the ST shifter shield means. Most (if not all) of the ones I've ever seen simply say "BURS"

Has BadMood gone stale?

Hi, Does anyone know what's happening with BadMood? I know there are other alternatives. And if I really wanted to play Doom I could use a 486, an emulator or even my NeXT (if I want to play without sound or colour) but I really love BadMood. I love the intro graphics and the music. I also like the ...

Re: Dead Falcon - no boot / coloured screen only

I have a little $16 frequency counter from eBay. I put mine in a plastic case and attached a probe so I can use it in a similar fashion to a logic probe. It's really handy. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/High-Accuracy-1-500-MHz-Frequency-Counter-Tester-Measurement-Meter-NEW-G/371599146137?hash=item5685...

Re: CT60e crashing at startup

Update: Problem fixed, i reflashed the Jdec files and all worked like a charm! A bit of a co-incident, I did the same today after I started to run in to some problems (random crashes, stuff refusing to run). My CT60e is now running at a very reliable 101.5Mhz and everything runs just fine. I don't ...

Re: CT60e crashing at startup

I haven’t tried that seems like a good idea to try, now would i reflash the jedec files or the bin/hex files? Also i think i need a patched flasho060 program correct? I am new to ct60e i always used ct60. To re flash the jedec files you will need a Xilinx programmer. If you do have one, I don't rec...

Re: CT60e is coming :)

That's great, but for us who already have a CT60 - any news about the SuperVidel? I second that! I did order CT60e, even though I have a CT60. I wasn't sure if SV would fit under the case with the original CT60 (or even if it was compatible) so I wanted to be safe. I wonder if the surprise producti...

Looking great on CT60 Falcon without SuperVidel. (TC done with bus mod and non-fussy monitor)

Re: Dead Falcon - no boot / coloured screen only

Did you try the HFC spray? It's expensive (like $30AUD a can) but a lot less expensive than a Falcon. :) I froze a chip on a 4MB Falcon card once and worked for months, so never bothered changing the IC out. Just waited 'till I could find a 14MB replacement.

Re: Dead Falcon - no boot / coloured screen only

It doesn't always work, but a good test before you start desoldering innocent chips is to drown your suspect IC in HFC freeze spray. If it comes good, then you know for sure that it's your culprit. :)

Re: Question on using Atari St in Modern age

I love the way your floppy drive still works, and mostly your disks still work!

The best way is to use floppies. :) There is something nice about having a clean disk and drive and listening to the stepper move one track at a time until the game loads.

Re: CT60 memory test strangeness

wow... you got a 3-in-1 ST, Falcon & CT60. I have no idea why it is behaving like that but remove the CT60 and see if it still thinks it is a ST. I did try to load an ST game but it didn't work. It only thinks its an ST if I let it complete the memory check in 060 mode. If I skip the memo...

CT60 memory test strangeness

Hi. I've had this problem for as long as I've had the CT60 - If I let it complete the ST RAM check/start the TT RAM check it won't boot. It usually crashes with an access fault. I've lived with it simply by using a zero second boot delay, thus avoiding the RAM check all together. But I've had some f...

Re: Can somebody compile a Netsurf that works with 256 colours?

Thanks sety this works great! Just wondering if you tweak the 'phase' on the monitor at all to remove some of those wavy dark/light lines on the screen? They're only really noticeable on a full colour background like blue, probably won't be noticeable with a proper background picture. It's noise. :...

Re: Can somebody compile a Netsurf that works with 256 colours?

Could you tell me the videlity settings for this please? IMG_1508.JPG XBoot allows for some limited scripting, so you can set it up to copy across the correct xaaes video settings for the desired colour depth. You could also do the same with videlity.inf if you wanted to have a selection of resolut...

Re: Can somebody compile a Netsurf that works with 256 colours?

If you're happy with 256 colour then 1536x1008 is a nice mode. It fills the screen and aspect ratio is correct.

Being able to run NetSurf is a bit of a luxury so I don't mind at all that my computer's TC modes look a little stretched. :)

Re: Can somebody compile a Netsurf that works with 256 colours?

I wonder if anyone else has managed such an amazing res in TC with their bus overclocked Falcon. I can still hardly believe it, your photographs blow my mind! Here's an earlier photo I took with 1344 x 1008 256 colour: 1344Falc.jpg even in 256 colour the res is high enough that images look quite ph...

Re: Can somebody compile a Netsurf that works with 256 colours?

It's far below 30 Hz refresh rate which is OK for desktop. Accidentally, desktop is the only place where such high resolutions make sense. :) It's noticeable if I try to play a video, but in terms of a desk top experience, menus, etc, it's no different to using a modern computer. Papyrus X is a dre...

Re: Can somebody compile a Netsurf that works with 256 colours?

No I ended up getting an OSSC which should be more compatible than any multisync I would have thought. But maybe I'm wrong. Can your machine do 1024x768 TC as well? I can barely manage 256 with mine. I wasn't able to get 1024x768 in TC but 1008x880 was fine. The highest 256 colour mode I got was 13...

Re: Can somebody compile a Netsurf that works with 256 colours?

Man I don't know what voodoo magic is going on inside your falcon, but I can't reproduce anything near what you have got. I can't get mine to push TC over 640x480. Using your exact settings when I press 'test' in videlity I just get a blank screen, I even have an OSSC so I'm sure its not the monito...

Re: Can somebody compile a Netsurf that works with 256 colours?

As promised: videlity.jpg You need to add this to your xaaes.cnf to get it to use TC: xaaescnf.jpg I found that I had lower the boot colour depth each time I upped the Videlity modes, presumably to free up memory, otherwise Videlity would crash. For this one I had to lower it to 4 colour, which mean...

Re: Can somebody compile a Netsurf that works with 256 colours?

AFAIK not possible. I went through the same struggles. I recall finding some info that someone had tried but it was too slow. I notice from your sig that you have an accelerated bus. TC should be available with the right monitor. I'm running 1008x880 TC with no special hardware except a CT60 and a 2...
