Re: Memory protection in Mint

It's also a blessing when coding, since rogue pointers generally leads to a program termination rather than a freeze/hang. This is exactly why I'm not using my Firebee for coding anymore. I hear ya. You do it exactly the same: all output goes to the VDI handle you got with v_opnbm(). By the way, you are aware this will require NVDI?

On the FireBee, NVDI runs and takes care of this. I know, it's confusing. I never could figure out how the VDI works on that machine

Re: foss-north 2018: Atari ST Free Operating Systems

But can you realistically use gcc >= 4 on a real Atari? I guess it depends on what you mean by "real Atari" and "use". I used GCC4 quite a lot on my FalconCT63 and now on my Firebee. I wouldn't dream of using it on a bog standard Falcon or TT though, and I don't compile heavy st...

I have a spare SCSI CD-Drive witch I'd like to plug to the Falcon-CT60.
Witch CD-Driver supports the MC68060?

I used to use ExtenDOS and the CD Writer suite on my CT63. Great piece of software. I still have it if you're interested.

My TT keyboard and PeST-connected mouse work fine. Boot v2.02. Sometimes I get that annoying key repeat but it can be cured by hitting any key so not a big issue, really.

How do I set trucolor backgounds for jinnee? I've been seeing screenshots of jinnee with really nice backdrops online however when I do it, the icon labels disappear. Re: Firebee and old soft

(video is still slow, People probably say that because they use 32-bit modes as they think more is better. But it's not. 16-bit means 50% less traffic on the flex-bus (CPU->FPGA) which is the real bottleneck. I was intrigued by this so I tried the 16bit mode on my FireBee. I can't say that I've not...

But what is the last version that will work on a 8+3 file system STE? I have a Papyrus X and it is all long filename so I assume was ment for the Falcon (does TT do long file names?) I need an english version that will run on my mega STE 4mb I don't think Papyrus X will be happy with 4MB anyway. I ...

Is this program, thing 1.5 or later, still available anywhere? It was on AtariForge, which has been down for a while. I'm not sure it's available anywhere else yet, but people are bound to have sources and binaries of it (edit: see this post: http://www.atari-forum.com/viewtopic.php?p=335947#p33594...

Useful stuff, Thorsten. I only tested the programs quickly on my Firebee and unfortunately spdview.prg froze it. Running it with the 68k emulator works though, and the other two programs ran fine as they are.

I must admit I have a hard time understanding why some people seem to want EmuTOS to be a perfect clone of some specific version of TOS when any TOS you may wish to run on any machine/emulator you may have is floating about on the Net. Beats me.

Why is EMUTOS called EMUTOS ??? If I am right it is called EmuTOS because its main purpose was to be replacement for the original TOS-es in EMUlators and clones because of the Copyrights. So, it is EMU comes from EMUlate... but it is a bad emulator as it cannot "reproduce the function or actio...

Unicode is supported in NVDI 5 (not in 3). Thats possible. I was just looking at TOS.HYP, where some of the relevant functions are reported by available since NVDI 3. But i'm actually using NVDI 5.03, so that is not problem. And in general, output works, just that vqt_char_index() does not. Troll: ...

Re: Trying NetSurf on Atari TT

Out of curiosity: how much time does it take to load the atari-forum.com frontpage? Just so I can compare with my Firebee. It takes about 28 seconds. Much faster than the TT with 5 minutes. So, the loading rate of the NetUSBee is not the major problem on the TT, the low speed comes from the poor 68...
