Re: Building Linux kernel

I suppose uboot has no trouble reading kernel and initrd from FAT32? I guess the answers are in the uboot docs :) U-Boot can read from most of widespread filesystems. But Linux image stored on FAT partition has higher chances to be corrupted than sitting hidden in dedicated partition. I'm personall...

Re: MISTer on DE0-nano-SoCKit?

So I generated different version of memtest between 80MHz - 150MHz in 10MHz steps, using the phase shift value of -4350ps as set in the latest memtest code. The SDRAM board run OK even on 150MHz (so far did only short term test ~5 minutes, 0 errors) Congratulations! Out of curiosity - could you ple...

Interesting thing - 167, 200 and even 250MHz chips cost same price (near $30).

By scientific approach I ment to use specialized software like https://www.cst.com/products/cstpcbs to check violations for common rules (current return paths, termination) as well as more complex simulation.

Re: MISTer on DE0-nano-SoCKit?

1) I really suck at soldering :), this could indeed be true. Soldering quality has no influence (as long as you have no bridges or cold joints). But flux residue might do bad things. Give your board alcohol bath =) But... board design is the key here. Alliance chips guarantee at least 140MHz with s...

Re: SDRAM+SRAM board (only concept for now)

I also know many smart words :) The difference between knowing some terms, and making a real hardware is huge. Good luck to find SSRAM in TSOP or similar soldering iron friendly package and make it run at 200MHz on MiSTer module ;) I even don't say about price. Well... technically... 167MHz and TQF...

Let's limit by size then. No rbf can be less than 1Mb (for instance). There is also some header-type pattern in .rbf file, but I think it's excessive for such type of issues (wrong files downloaded)

Re: SDRAM board

Note that overshoot can be managed, at some extent, from the FPGA side. The FPGA drivers have programmable drive strength. But this is part of the compilation. I've did an experiment when the whole FPGA bank switched to 2.5V instead of 3.3V and with Alliance SDRAM chip it gave few additional MHz of...

Re: SDRAM board

Guys, don't fight =) I personally want to have DE10-Standard, having SDRAM on board and external HDMI + some other weird high-speed peripherals connected via HSMC. So what? =) DE10 + boards = totally working MVP. Everything else - nice to have. Who wants it - design it, maintain it. Fair enough. p.s...

I This is only an idea but it's pretty viable. Need developer(s) who could make it possible. Actually all parts (Minimig, UAE) are already available and open source. Need to do a work to mix them together. Very interesting idea, although, currently high speed transfers to-from FPGA disabled. Enabli...

Re: MiSTer: MiST on Terasic DE10-nano board.

On computers where 68000 is used usually cycle accuracy is not required. It's more important how correct every instruction is executed. Minimig is pretty compatible with most Amiga 500-1200 software, so the CPU is not an issue. In my opinion it's only because of architecture specifics where all use...

plus no 68030 or MMU in standard form so the ST core should be (arguable) simpler than the Amiga one... Not sure if it's really simpler, it still has custom chips, plus several off the shelf rather complex chips. But regardless if it is simpler or not, it probably requires much more accuracy. Since...

Mounted 5V Sunon maglev fan from some laptop (it has own heatsink) and powered it from 3.3V (arduino header) It works, but I'm not happy with level of noise it produces. Re: MiSTer: MiST on Terasic DE10-nano board.

It's very complicated. FPGA doesn't work like CPU, and there is no immediate way to detect the SDRAM. It will require POST sequence to detect it and then somehow display it which will make the cores more complicated in development. I would say - it's complicated for now. Have few ideas about that a...
