Re: What hapened to atariforge? dev-docs moved.

So a more central approach would be even worse, despite the convenience being attractive. I think I actually see it as the opposite ;) ⋅  Decentralized in management, as multiple people would have access and would be able to assist / fix issues if something goes wrong. For example in GitH...

Re: What hapened to atariforge? dev-docs moved.

Ah that's a relief, I'm glad to hear that! Thanks for clarifying it for me. That solves my immediate concern of things getting out of sync. There's still the broader point of ensuring these sites and resources perdure over time when their maintainer lose interest of life gets in the way. Perhaps it'...

Re: What hapened to atariforge? dev-docs moved.

That's great! I'm glad to see it back! Thanks to the people behind this mirror! However, while I really applaud the effort, part of me wonder if that's the best approach. Now we have 2 versions of the dev-docs (this one, + http://dev-docs.exxoshost.co.uk/), soon to be 3 when atariforge.org ...

Any updates on this? Is there any way to contact Rob? I'd be happy to assist in any way I can, including hosting, to get Atari Forge back!

Re: Going into demo creation in 2017?

I would encourage you to go for it too! 8) It should be a lot of fun. I would recommend assembly too, at least ultimately even if you start with something simpler like STOS. That will be the only way to reach peak performance, and to make something Atari ST specific. If you were to code in BASIC for...

Re: Best Starfields in Demos, or games?

Oh yeah, it doesn't run on low res. The weird thing is that with EmuTOS it just returns to the desktop without any error, whereas with a real TOS it does display a message about the resolution (in French, though!)

Re: Best Starfields in Demos, or games?

I fired up DCK on Hatari, what a blast from the past!! Last time I used this was probably 25 years ago on a real ST :) Unfortunately DCK is French only, so I annotated a screenshot for you if you want to play with it. Just click on "ETOILES" at the bottom to setup the stars: https://i.imgu...

Re: Best Starfields in Demos, or games?

If I remember correctly Demo Construction Kit has a starfield making tool allowing you adjust a lot of parameters.

There seem to be a tutorial in English there: http://www.atari-wiki.com/index.php?tit ... ction=edit

Hatari is another emulator that has built-in video capture capability (I never tried it though).

Re: Atari Legend is back!

Thanks for the explanations! use the contribute in the games detail pages of the main site. I went to the control panel and saw options to contribute things here, that's why I was confused I guess. Unfortunately the games contribution form is quite limited from what I understand. I was keen to contr...

Re: Atari Legend is back!

Awesome stuff! Thanks for all the hard work :D A couple of things: ⋅  It took me while to realize how to register, I didn't see at first that the registration form would appear on a box on the right side, so it looked as a bug, as if the page reloaded without any change. I would suggest mo...

Re: The Atari MC68000 Tutorials

Hi there, I really enjoyed these tutorials, but I was a bit frustrated by the PDF format and the inability to fix minor typos and stuff, so I spent some time converting them to AsciiDoc, and rendering them in HTML. The result is here: https://nguillaumin.github.io/perihelion-m68k-tutorials/ , and th...

Re: Gaming databases and ST Metadata

I think we all agree that a database is needed, some kind of open-source repository of the data itself. Having websites around it is also key, but it's kind of a chicken and the egg problem: No website to enter the data = no database, and not good enough database = no incentive to make a website pub...

Re: Perihelion tutorial #9 (overscan) problem

Thanks for the explanation troed! I think I made sense of it especially after having read the overscan article in ST Mag #51 (translated in English there for those who don't read French) Regarding Steem and Wine, I haven't tried. I tend to stay clear of Windows stuff if I can 8) Hatari worked fine i...

Re: Perihelion tutorial #9 (overscan) problem

So, after a lot of experimentation (involving the setup of a Windows VM to be able to run Steem!), I finally found the culprit! :D It has to do with the TOS. If I use an European TOS (e.g. UK), it works fine. If I use a US TOS, or EmuTOS, it doesn't. I assume that's because the US TOS (and EmuTOS) &...

Re: Perihelion tutorial #9 (overscan) problem

Thanks for your answers, From what I understand the top border timing is pretty broad / forgiving, so I would have assumed that this one at least would work? I'm using Hatari because I'm on Linux and Steem is not available. Interestingly I tried it on Steem SSE once I gained access to a Windows mach...

[solved] Perihelion tutorial #9 (overscan) problem

Hi, I'm going through the excellent 68000 assembler tutorials by Perihelion , and I'm having a problem with #9, about removing the top and bottom border of the screen. With the listing as-is, the borders are not removed and the picture palette is all wrong: tut-as-is.png If I edit the code to just a...
