Re: ao486 Performance Technical Discussion

Notice that there is also the 586 with quite a lot of work done from what we can read at
https://opencores.org/projects/v586 ... to keep in mind, some modules can be re-used.

Re: PC-XT core (from 8088 to 286 CPU)

Anyone tried to synthesise the opencores rtf8088 to check what is the max frequency at which it can run ?

Re: PC-XT core (from 8088 to 286 CPU)

From the opencores page at https://opencores.org/projects/next186_soc_pc The author mentioned implementations on two FPGAs close in DE-XX family - DE2-115 (Altera EP4CE115F29C7) - runs at 105Mhz bus, 52.5Mhz CPU, 135Mhz(540MB/s) SDRAM (64MB), 97Mhz DSP, 9248LE (8% from 114480), VGA24bit - DE0-Nano (...

Re: Filters for Scaler

Does anybody see anything missing from the currently available filters that should be implemented? Feel free to post it here! I like the filters for scaler and as not everyone has MATLAB, I think a C/C++ or python version of the filter design tools would be useful. I have started to convert to C an...

Where is this NEC Gate Array documented ?

Re: Sord M5 core

Z80 based little systems like the Sord M5 should not be too difficult
As many arcades also used the Z80. The schematics are online, so
it is good as reference. What do you run on it apart from the
Basic language available as Roms ?

Looking into the 3smo5.zip archive ... lots of nice test bench !
Will check if this design fit into a Papilio Pro to start with.
Any MO5 games anyone want to see tested first ?

Re: Thomson MO5/TO7

The main unknown would be the Gate Array, but from page 112, there some explanations from this PDF http://www.progettosnaps.net/manuals/pdf/mo5.pdf (In French). I hope two members of one internet forum about Thomson computers will help with some vhdl code of this Gate Array (it mainly generate clock...

Re: Reverse engineering arcade PCBs for MISTer

Thank you for your suggestion and help. This will only work for 2 layer PCBs right.

I like the approach and reminded me of the work from Bald Engineer and his work
on the schematics of the Apple II ...

Please note that GORF's schematics is available from KLOV, so I think we can start from it first.

Re: Thomson MO5/TO7

I have emailed Torlus to see if we can get the VHDL of the Gate Array
as this is the one part we cannot guess unless we've had one hardware
to probe. Hopefully the author will share with us. One 6809E is needed
and have to check what are the real difference with 6809 ...

This would be interesting ! Used the Thomson MO5 in my youth ... from a quick Google search for the schematics there seems to be a Gate Array to get right but if Torlus can help about this, it would be fun ! Can we find the ROM with the basic language ?

as the DEC T-11 is used in some arcade early Atari ones, your PDP-1 core will be useful for them.

6888x cores

Any interest or need to implement the Motorola 6888x floating point coprocessor ?
If I remember well they worked with the TRAP instruction with sequence of passing
values and waiting for results ...
