Re: Atari ST Game Sound FX Sample Archive?

[quote="MiggyMog"]You could also try using old school ripping tools like probe ST , adrenaline ripper etc. I suspect in most cases it may be easier just recording from an emulator as you have done. Also some YM effects may already be available in the SNDH archive as sub ' tunes'. I am sure...

Re: Atari ST Game Sound FX Sample Archive?

Thanks peeps. Yes it's the YM generated sounds I want to capture, so I don't think memory dump will be ideal for this, although it would be good for sampled sounds. I think I'd be better playing the games through & sampling them manually. I did get a bit excited about the idea of extracting the ...

Re: Atari ST Game Sound FX Sample Archive?

Great to know about this. I've tried importing the memory dump into audacity as raw data, both 8bit signed & unsigned, but I tend to get a 2-10 second clip of white noises'. I've had a good play with it & searched hard on here & other sites but can't see a guide for this. If u know of an...

Re: Atari ST Game Sound FX Sample Archive?

Memory dump from emulator then load as 8-bit RAW (you'll need to try both signed and unsigned) in Audacity? Hmm, never knew this was possible! Just had a lil look for memory dump elsewhere & yes, that's gotta be the best way for me to do this. Thanks very much! Found a bit of info on here, http...

Re: Capture card advice for Steem...

What’s the spec of your pc? I record animations from steem using obs studio on a 10 year old MacBook at 60fps and it’s fine. Before taking such a drastic round robin style we need to look at your specs and the obs settIngs. Fraps will bring even the heftiest hardware to to its knees Hey thanks bud,...

Atari ST Game Sound FX Sample Archive?

Hello! For a long time I've been sampling sound FX in games, but I wondered if there is an existing archive for Atari ST FX samples? I have been using Steem's sound recording function, then editing down each sample to normalise & steady the levels, but its very time consuming as I need to play t...

Re: Do YM Sound Modules Exist?

You might need to read this thread and use some special programs http://www.atari-forum.com/viewtopic.php?t=11708 Thanks for this. I had flicked back & forth trying various methods in the thread, but just hadn't found one which worked. A few links are broke but theres a few I haven't tried like...

Re: Do YM Sound Modules Exist?

I wouldn't advice to use floppies, they are not really reliable. Gotek + hxc firmware are great. Anyway, if you own a floppy drive on your pc, or if you have an usb floppy drive, just format a floppy on your atari, insert the floppy in your pc, and copy the files from musicmon or maxymiser directly...

Re: Do YM Sound Modules Exist?

I'm all set to go, the only thing I'm unsure about it how to put MaxYMiser or musicmon onto floppy. I use makedisk and can put ST or MSA files to floppy, but MaxYMiser & Musicmon are PRG files with additional folders. I'm unsure if I need to make them into an MSA file to put onto floppy or if I ...

Re: Best Starfields in Demos, or games?

Oh yeah, it doesn't run on low res. The weird thing is that with EmuTOS it just returns to the desktop without any error, whereas with a real TOS it does display a message about the resolution (in French, though!) Haha, yeah I got part of that message & wondered what I was doing wrong, thought ...

Re: Best Starfields in Demos, or games?

I fired up DCK on Hatari, what a blast from the past!! Last time I used this was probably 25 years ago on a real ST :) Hey cheers, & massive extra thanks for annotating it in English! I couldn't figure out why I wasn't able to run it in steem. I burnt DCK to floppy & run it on my A...

Re: Do YM Sound Modules Exist?

Actually the most simple way to achieve this, is probably to use a real ST with software to control its YM2149 chip from MIDI input. Possible software candidate would be maxYMiser (pretty sure some MIDI IN configuration can achieve this), or Electric Cow Sound Chip Synth (but website seems down). A...

Re: Do YM Sound Modules Exist?

Have you had a look to this? https://github.com/trash80/Ym2149Synth I don't know if you can control it from a DAW though. Hey there. I've been looking at this one and yes, it can be controlled with a DAW, it receives CC commands which can be applied to different parameters in a DAW. I've opened a c...

ahh thats really cool of you!
I'll give this a go myself today, getting my head around STOS still but I'm further ahead than I was now, yet still a beginner.
I'm sure Thomas3 will be happy with it :-)

Re: YM Stand Alone Sound Modules? I want one!

Hello again, I've started a chat with them & it's looking clearer to me now. They said 'there are preset sounds, but they're controlled with MIDI CC commands so you can customize them'. So I asked if these commands would be controlled from a DAW like ableton for example, using parameters like vi...

Re: YM Stand Alone Sound Modules? I want one!

hi if it is a pre made one then i don't know that it can do, but if i should make one, i would add a chip where i made the synth software on, and not like in my window player, the problem is, all the fx like vib, arpeggio and more important sid fx need to be played precise whole the time or maybe y...

Re: YM Stand Alone Sound Modules? I want one!

Thanks Fedepede, I'm curious what I could do with it, I"m not sure exactly how its designed to be used. I'm guessing I'd send code to it written in stos for eg, but would this code be coming from say steem for example, or could your YM2149 windows tracker use this? I'm still learning a lot abou...

Re: YM Stand Alone Sound Modules? I want one!

Hey there Atari74 & Iceman! So sorry I didn't see this response till now, I'm catching up on this site at the mo. Still considering a MIST but in the meantime I've been looking at other ways to control my Atari in a DAW taking a midi in from a USB to midi interface via ableton. Still need to tes...

Re: Best Starfields in Demos, or games?

I had a look through the ST format disks & tried 37a out of a few, now I've just given 37b a go, got it! I was starting to learn STOS the other week & was doing alright, but couldn't complete the user guide after I was asked for the language disk, so theres a lot I'm missing yet, I'm learnin...

Best Starfields in Demos, or games?

I'm looking for a good PRG which could hopefully allow me to control a starfield. I've seen a few on various demos which allow me to control certain parameters like speed & direction etc, but haven't found one suitable for this purpose yet. Sometimes I see great starfields but they are displayed...

Re: Capture card advice for Steem...

Thanks. I'm fairly new to the understanding of how video cards work regards to compressors, directdraw etc, so recently learnt a lot whilst configuring virtualdub. I spent a whole day, 10:30am to 5pm, trying various settings on virtualdub but didn't have any stable results. I asked about on a forum ...

Re: Arkanoid and MIDI

Arkanoid & MIDI? Couldn't help notice this, as I've recently been remixing Arkanoid & something incredible happened. Apologies if its a bit off topic, but I had a breakthrough circuit bending a sashio keyboard & managed to replicate almost the exact sound of the synth noise used in Arkan...
