Re: 520ST and 520ST+ SCART cable

Kokkiklhs, I have an STM and have just bought a Scart cable. But I got the German one, not the one from the UK as the UK one did not list the STM as being compatible where as the German one was listed. It's more complex that you think as there appear to be different revisions of the STM where some v...

Re: Modifying Gaming Controllers

I resoldered all of the controller pins on the Mobo, 2 pins actually fell off completely and were clearly snapped within the solder joint but i've bridged it well. The ebay controllers still didn't work so I opened up and modded. Using the Atari pin out diagram I basically bypassed the microcontroll...

Re: Modifying Gaming Controllers

Thanks Dal, so tonight's project is resolder both 9pin connectors on motherboard as I think they are both a bit cracked from use. Open up new controllers for inspection and modification as per your link.
Thanks.

Modifying Gaming Controllers

Hi all, After getting my old ST fixed, next stage is sourcing/modding some new controllers so me and my son can get on with some retro gaming. I had a look at the Wiki section and there's a good list of available compatible controllers but there doesn't seem to be much technical discussion anywhere ...

Re: Atari STM Green cast to screen

Siriush, those are superb pointers, Thankyou. I'll work my way through that debug sequence before ordering a scrapper ST or new Shifter.

Meanwhile at work I'm trying to borrow a scope. I had one as a college undergrad. Wish I'd kept it, been many a time I could have done with one!

Thankyou.

Re: Atari STM Green cast to screen

LOL!! I had the monitor plug in upside down
Well onto the Shifter chip next.......
I've seen as US supplier for $40....but after import tax, postage i'd be cheaper buying a whole new STFM!!!

Re: Atari STM Green cast to screen

**UPDATE** This is bizarre. So i got some new Transistors, identical flavor to replace Q4 (2N3904), replaced carefully, made a perfect job of it. Taking care at all times, wrist strap on but now the fault has changed. Using the Monitor to SCART output it is just buzzing now at switch on with no pict...

2UP on 2xST's Multiplayer

Having recently pulled my 25yo ST out of the attic old memories are flooding back.....in particular playing Stunt car racer with 2 computers connected together and obviously 2 screens. I'm not even sure how we did it....modem cable?

We're there any other games you could do this with?

thanks,
Marco.

Re: Atari STM Green cast to screen

Right Diagnostics time. I couldn't get hold of a scope today so armed with a multi meter here are some results. Before I did anything I quickly re-seated and cleaned U31 (shifter pins). There was no obvious oxidation. Still greenish screen all the time. 1. Switched on the PC in with the multimeter o...

Re: Dual port Game Controllers for multi button

No, the controller would be a generic use controller for any game. 2 plugs. Ready for any game coded up to take advantage of it. Bit like me buying a steering wheel for my PC. Only used by some games. Agree with you though as its chicken and egg. Put investment in first in hardware or wait for devel...

Dual port Game Controllers for multi button

I am just pouring over the ST 520 circuit diagrams and it seems to me there was always the possibility of mapping the signals from the second controller port (or indeed any more from the parallel port) to create hardware capability for a joystick/pad having many buttons with the use of a dual plug t...

Re: HxC USB on STm

Apologies, not sure what you mean. There is no internal drive or even provision on the motherboard for an FDD plug. The only interface is the external FDD port.......The STM has both external PSU and FDD. Only the modulator is internal.

Re: Atari STM Green cast to screen

Does this make sense Exxos (by the way really appreciate your help.)
Red highlighted are, Q4 short, saturating input to pin 2? Hence the green cast?

Re: Atari STM Green cast to screen

Right got hold of the schematic. Shifter is U31. Will have a good hard look, try borrow a scope from work or at least take the board into work after 6pm when everyone's gone home!!!

OK, opened her up:
Took the can lid of the modulator (it appears to be the only can on the board contrary to what I said eralier!!)

It looks like there are 2 adjustable pots in that modulator area....

OK, i'll open her up and have a look round. Where about on my Mobo are these areas? Is there an FAQ somewhere here that displays the areas of an STM PCB? I did notice there are a lot of shielded areas inside.....

Atari STM Green cast to screen

Hello, Pleased to meet everyone here. After a long time away from my machine (26 years to be precise) I pulled my old out Atari 520 STm out of the attic. Connected all the PSU, external floppy drive etc...Powered up to GEM and it appears to have a 'Green cast' to it all. Now I loaded up some games, ...
