Re: Fast Devpac Question...

Can you not perhaps 'unify' all the graphics into one file and index the necessary part?

That would at least stop the number of includes getting too out of hand.

Re: Fast Devpac Question...

Well, you will have to calculate the bytes of data that you 'include' and compare with the amount of RAM that you have (including the size of the code too).

This is easier if all the includes are the same size!

Re: Fast Devpac Question...

Actually, the limit for the number of INCBIN includes I expect would be more limited by your machine running out of memory than by any hardcoded number limit in devpac.

How many are you actually putting in then?

Re: MIDI Hardware/Software recommendations?

If you havent done so already, I would plan your SCSI chain too. Cubase CBX (well, the D5 version that I have) requires a certain size max partition and a certain HDD driver.

(512mb if on > TOS 2.x and ICD drivers is one of the 2 choices IIRC).

Will this have the option of rotating to be a desktop? (I dont much like towers. Cant stack stuff on them!)

Re: MIDI Hardware/Software recommendations?

Well, like I said, I dont know if I will be able to get the CBX units going with cubase, but Im more than happy to fall back on Breakthru 2 with the Replay 16, along with my SY85. Would have liked the sound to stay all in the Atari, but.. well... we will see. Similarly to you, I started off with a c...

Re: MIDI Hardware/Software recommendations?

...and dont forget the Starrtrak DSP board for VME TTs! :D Im still fascinated by how much music software was available for the ST series. I am still coming across new and interesting programs from years ago. (Algorithmic composition, sample manipulation, etc). What I would like to do, or see done e...

Wow. If this is running at 71/2Hz, theres possibly an option for some temporal colour mixing too. Please, tell us more!

Re: MIDI Hardware/Software recommendations?

Hey Atarieterno, I dont think anyone has said anything to offend? Come back!! :( Leech: Well, I did see it for ~£100 a while ago. Should have maybe picked it up then. Im just not prepared to fork out that sort of money for the wrong version, or if I cant get all the SCSI chain to sing in unison! (Ha...

Re: MIDI Hardware/Software recommendations?

Yeah, Im leaning towards setting up a Mega ST4 for best compatibility. I have a MSTE (which I think would have been the best option) but it doesnt want to boot up currently and the TT will probably not work with many of the audio apps I intend to use. (Tried Avalon and Breakthru 2 on it). Im not sur...

Re: MIDI Hardware/Software recommendations?

Ive just managed to dig out and attach my SCSI CD-ROM drive. Havent had time to even fire it up though

Im wanting to use it through plain TOS/GEM. I was going to use CD Writer Suite, however, if you know of a driver that works for this setup I would be interested to know Leech

Re: MIDI Hardware/Software recommendations?

@Charles: I dont suppose you can use these SCSI3 drives JUST for the Yamaha CBX unit then?

@Atarieterno: The SCSI2SD units I have seen are quite expensive. Probably still better economy to use some old noisy 3.5" drives by the looks of it.

Re: MIDI Hardware/Software recommendations?

BTW, if anyone is struggling to find SCSI drives, I got a few of these from my brother out of a work server:

Not sure if they will be ok for a TT/ST/Falcon. Anyone had any experience with these re-badged Quantum drives?

Re: MIDI Hardware/Software recommendations?

All the audio recording devices I have for Atari can also record at 48 Khz: Yamaha CBX, Digital Master (Hybrid Arts) and ADAS (Plasmec Solutions). I was more referring to the bitrate. People ~10 years ago were using (a better dynamic range of) 24-bit. Not sure what pro studios are using nowadays. S...

Re: MIDI Hardware/Software recommendations?

@Atarieterno: Hey nice track! Dont get me wrong. Im not slating the CBX, just saying 16 bit 44.1khz audio isnt at current studio levels anymore. If anything, Im encouraging Leech to use the lower quality Replay16, which I found quite sufficient for my early tunes...When I wanted better quality sampl...

Re: MIDI Hardware/Software recommendations?

You know what Leech? Ive been thinking of asking someone here about speed differences between onboard shifter and VME GFX cards.
Probably a bit too off topic if I explain why this is exciting news for me. Suffice to say, I would be VERY interested for any tests you can do in this depatment.

Re: MIDI Hardware/Software recommendations?

Also it's a bit faster than the TT's video output. Is this true? Im guessing that Cubase uses the VDI. In which case, is it quicker to send the data across to a VME card than it would be to use the hi res shifter? Does the graphics cards on board bit blit make a big difference to the speed then? (S...

Aha! Here it is! It was made by the same guys as the Replay16, but they were called 2bit systems/AVR before being distributed by Microdeal. https://temlib.org/AtariForumWiki/index.php/Pro_Series_16 Seems that it had an external PSU, but even then I dont know whats inside the Replay16 (I havent taken...

Re: MIDI Hardware/Software recommendations?

Leech; why not try the TT hi res mode? Its more screen estate than that VME slot graphics card (unless you need the extra colours for music sequencers! ). Going back to the Replay 16, I picked mine up recently for ~£30 so shouldnt break the bank. If you use Sequencer One or Breakthru then its ...

Re: MIDI Hardware/Software recommendations?

@Leech: Ideally, you could, with this CBX/Replay16 setup, sample in at 16 bit and record it back into the CBX unit. Make sure only to record 1 channel otherwise you will lose audio quality. Back in the day, I had lots of fun with Sequencer One which then became Breakthru/2, as it was pretty much the...
