Re: Prices of Amiga and Atari

Yeah but Amiga owners like to moan about the horrible "green" ST desktop which you can change the color of to whatever you like, so I feel the need to point out it's better than the orange and blue monstrosity from Commodore. As for the TV's, I'm aware of the why's, but the monochrome sche...

Re: Prices of Amiga and Atari

As a teenager I was determined the ST range was better, at least as computers vs games machines. At my age and with experience of so many different machines now I can be a bit more open. But I have a couple of Amigas and I have to say, Workbench looks pants (what's with the giant icons and orange an...

Re: Prices of Amiga and Atari

A lot more 1200s were made vs Falcons. The Falcon had a shorter run and was more expensive. And if someone on fleabay can claim VINTAGE! RARE! L@@k, L@@K! they feel justified in jacking the price up and trying their luck. With less machines around and less on the market, it only takes 1 or 2 idiots ...

Ooh this is interesting news!

Those who had trouble with their -38's that were fixed with 01's should open up their machines and post the CPU markings so we can see if there is a pattern?

Re: New production of STE 30pin simms.

While I don't have a problem finding 30 pin simms at the moment, prices for a set of 4 x 1MB ones seem to go for between 12 and 22 dollars on evilbay and there's more than a hundred ads for 1MB simms on there. So right now, this isn't necessary for me. But... Going forward this kind of thing is huge...

Re: LPT to USB printer adapter

If solutions get too pricey you may as well just buy an old but working dot matrix. I know that retroprinter site says dot matrix machines are upwards of 200 quid, and that is the case for brand new modern ones, and that finding old ribbons may be difficult but... I bought a virtually brand new (as ...

Re: My Atari STE has had the Retrobright Treatment

Could be an option yes. For some things you'd need to spray the logos/text on too using a vinyl template cut out but if you have the equipment you could do it. The surface texture would be wrong, but better that than the yellow plastic imho. It won't work for me as I have to keep lugging the machine...

Re: My Atari STE has had the Retrobright Treatment

I agree with mattsoft. A slightly cloudy day is better than strong direct sun. And yes you should reapply every hour to avoid patches. And definitely wrap in film. However... I for a less risky solution buy a clear plastic container at the pound shop and a couple of gallons of 6-7% hydrogen peroxide...

Re: I finally have a TT!

It does have the red (iron?) coating.
It did not react with the peroxide, the fluid didnslightly change color to an orange tint but I think that came from the rusty LED holder that was still in there.

Re: HDdriver 8.23 to 10.02 transition problems

I have similar issues, see my thread on my recently aquired Falcon... Basically I had one of the last 9.x versions on my STE with ultrasatan and everything worked. I did a fresh install via 10.02 and it could see and partition the card, but won't boot from it. Also, if HDDriver is loaded from auto f...

Re: New addition to the collection

Booting my STE off the HDDriver 10.02 floppy shows the exact same symptoms as the Falcon re the 2 bomb crash when accessing the About GEM dialog box. It won't boot the Ultra Satan either. It was working under 9.x (I forget which version. But one of the last 9.x versions). So the Falcon is likely fin...

It's possible to convert the 400 to output composite. As it only cost you 35 sovs you may as well try it and it's useless to you as it is anyway. You may have to Google a bit but it seems people have managed it: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/209136-kjmanns-s-video-upgrade-revisited-atari-400/page-3

Re: A Simple (?) Virtual Floppy Drive?

I'd be far more inclined to use such a device if: (A) I could keep the original floppy faceplate/flap so it looks like there is still a floppy drive there and just poke the USB/card in. (B) It supported regular .ST or .MSA files as well as proprietary ones for those damned copy protected games. Unti...

Re: Dilemma: Mega STE or not Mega STE?

I replaced the fan in my TT with a same sized Noctua (famous for quiet fans) and used their included inline resistor pack to slow it down 50%. It's virtually silent now. If I dremmeled out the hole to remove the thick grill bars it could be silent but that's irreversible so I won't. The internal har...

It is not missing. The resolver is in MiNTlib, but there is no MiNTlib for GFA. That's why the STiNG resolver is being used instead.

Re: Mintnet FTP client please!

Thanks to lp, the MiNTnet API is used directly, but the resolve function is not present in the API, so the user still has to install GlueSTiK (just for this only function). As I'm new to Mintnet and so on: If I'm writing an app that uses MiNTnet I naturally use the API right? But it doesn't do DNS ...

Re: FOR SALE: MEGA GAMES JOBLOT!!! 25 ORIGINALS (DUNGEON MASTER, SUNDOG, FRONTIER)

Retro gaming is in.
Also, those of us who were teenagers around 1990 or so want the machines we had back. Same goes for 80s / 90s hot hatches (expect to pay upwards of £50k for a very nice Escort Cosworth) and anything else from that era. Ghetto blasters are big money too...

Re: FOR SALE: MEGA GAMES JOBLOT!!! 25 ORIGINALS (DUNGEON MASTER, SUNDOG, FRONTIER)

Starting bid works out to 8 quid per game which I think is reasonable given they're boxed and decent titles. I'd have to pay double here in the US, if I was buying them individually at least..
I wouldn't go nuts on the bidding though....
