How is the MiST almost as powerful as the A4000? It has no FPU, therefore most graphics productivity apps are going to perform much worse (and need a non-FPU version of the app).

Not sure why you think it was an investment? An investment is supposed to (ideally) appreciate in value. Any technology purchase will depreciate in value. There's loads of VGA capture devices, they're just a bit expensive. The Epiphan ones are very good, they just cost hundreds of GBP/EUR.

So ScummVM is a virtual machine, whereas FPGA is hardware reimplementation, so the compiled ScummVM code has (not looked at the source) conditional compilation at the makefile level and most likely via preprocessor directives based on target implementation environment varia...
