Look here: viewtopic.php?f=33&t=32073&p=351446#p351440. mikro has two working Sparrows.

Re: Faint vertical gray lines in STE/MSTE in high-res - Am I the only one?

PS: You can see how the buffer cleans up the signal in the attached scope screen shot -- measured on the 1040STE. Yellow trace is the mono output from the Shifter. Notice the high amount of noise plus one very visible ripple due to GND/Vcc bounce. Blue trace is the output from my buffer board: much ...

Re: Faint vertical gray lines in STE/MSTE in high-res - Am I the only one?

On the 1040STE the results were (only) partly promising. The lines were visibly reduced, but contrary to my MegaSTE they didn't fully vanish. As requested on FB, I want to document my findings, though, while I think of solutions for the 1040STE. After a lot of measuring, I've come to the conclusion ...

The fix I designed seems to work in my MegaSTE. Still need to confirm this in the 1040STE before going into more details.

Re: Wanted: PLCC68 ITT Cannon socket

Finally bought a Exxos socket adaptor. The ITT Cannon socket price was out of my budget. Good to hear that you found a solution. I see that Exxos now has a few sockets in stock in his store, although of course the adapter is less pricey. Did the owner of the Black Cat Hardware store ever get back t...

Re: Three Sparrow Mainboards on EBay

I don't think we need better photos: Judging from the components missing (two crystals, two diodes, some transistors), I suspect this is the "famous" PLL to lock the system clock to the PAL color frequency. It is present in all Ataris with a PAL modulator -- starting with the 520STM. See i...

Re: Falcon TOS EPROM?

Well, if you move TOS out of romspace, it has to be relocated to the new adress space it is using, So the TOStoRAM software needs a relocation table to adjust all direct rom space adresses to the new ones. I'm not sure if there is relocating tables in TOS, or the creator of the software has to buil...

This is confirmed by a document in the Falcon diagnostic source code (different archive from the one linked above): DSP TEST 2 - SSI Port This test loads a program into the DSP and then sends it's internal sine wave table out a loopback connector on the DSP port. NOTE: The loopback connector cannot ...

Some of the wiring maybe can be guessed from comments in the Falcon production diagnostic source code: https://www.dev-docs.org/docs/htm/search.php?find=Falcon030+Production * You can test this program by disconnecting wires in the loopback. * If you disconnect STD-SRD you should get a LB_NOT_EQUAL ...

Re: RARE VINTAGE ATARI 520 STFM COMPUTER

In German there is a saying: "Every day someone stupid stands up." Given the current retro hype with its inflated prices the computer might even find a buyer. Although, a 520STFm is obviously far from "RARE" as the seller claims.

Re: Faint vertical gray lines in STE/MSTE in high-res - Am I the only one?

Could it be a problem on some data bus line between Shifter and RAM? Ah, no the data lines are all fine, it's just some 100 mVolts of noise that get overlaid on top of the mono output of the Shifter. I think this already happens within the GSTSHIFTER. BTW, what I see is that you have managed to dis...

Re: Faint vertical gray lines in STE/MSTE in high-res - Am I the only one?

50 Hz noise manifests itself as more overall flickering of the screen with ca. 21 Hz (71 Hz - 50 Hz). I had that as well, but fortunately I was able to fix it by selecting a more suitable opto-coupler for the PSU.

The gray lines however correlate with the RAM access of the GSTSHIFTER.

Faint vertical gray lines in STE/MSTE in high-res - Am I the only one?

Hello, both my 1040STE and my MegaSTE show flickering faint vertical gray lines in high resolution (monochrome) video mode every 16 pixels. This happens on a VGA monitor as well as on the SM124. It particularly visible on a mostly white screen but can also be seen in the desktop background pattern. ...

Even though they are currently listed as "out of stock" on his site, you could ask Chris (Exxos) if he has some -- sockets, I mean, not adapters. Then, this shop claims to sell them: http://atari.team-yankee.net/pages/atari-hardware-developments-by-black-cat-hardware/shop.php. (Or was this...

Re: STM1 Mouse - dead ?

Check (e.g. with a continuity meter) if one of the mouse buttons appears to be always pressed. Iirc, the keyboard/mouse processor (IKBD) will malfunction when it detects a mouse button pressed at power-up.

Re: The Falcon's confusing history

The higher end machine you're talking aboutt was probably the "microbox", which looked a lot like the PS3 case, which was pretty much at the idea stage of things when the plug was pulled on it. I never saw anything beyond a foam case mockup for it. Thanks for posing that question. Would b...

Re: Faulty Atari 520STe - black screen

PS: As soon as you have access to a multimeter, you should first check, whether the RESET line is stuck low. I've heard of STEs where the reset circuitry (consisting of the push-button, 556 timer and 7406 buffers) was faulty and hence RESET was continuously asserted. This in fact causes a black scre...

Re: Faulty Atari 520STe - black screen

No, the ROMs from an STF will not work in an STE. There is not that much you can do without measuring instruments. You could try to carefully remove and reinsert socketed ICs in case the contacts are bad due to corrosion. You could try replacing the power supply (e.g. by one from the STF, they are c...

Re: Beginning of very long journey

I think ISP1161 is actually the same silicon as ISP1160, only that the USB device controller part is enabled as well -- but you don't need to use it, of course. So I'd expect ISP1161 to work right out of the box. I (or we as the Lightning VME team) don't have any experience with the ISP1161, though....

USB: Phillips ISP1160 In the Lightning VME we're using this one as well, basically for the same reason: drivers. Just be warned that you'll encounter some supply-chain issues with the ISP1160. It's long discontinued, hence it is only available at more or less dubious obsolete parts dealers. During ...

Re: STe - Bad DMA Chip

The "bad" DMA only has problems with certain hardware. E.g. original Atari disks almost never gave problems. I guess that's why this bug slipped through the engineers' fingers in the first place. Yes, but the Gigafile (along with the Ultrasatan) is known to be problematic in some STEs acc...
