uh...... 27c010 are EPROMs AFAIK..... Also surprised me that no-one knows what the B stands for,.....I wonder if I ave something special here ? Well couldn't see your previous pictures, so since you gave atari's part number, i assumed those were original roms. Besides, the mega ste's service manual...

if you don't have the logo at boot nor the ram test then it's 2.05. And considering 2.06 is mainly a bugfix of 2.05, i'd advise you to do the upgrade.

Re: 4MB Upgrade & 16MHz Booster progress

Btw I wonder how this will work with a MonSTer card... Also, LaceScan would extend the resolutions even more. 800++ horisontal resolution would be possible in 16 colour. Indeed, did anyone of the more-hardware-skill-enabled forum colleagues already try that? Would be much interested in both whether...

Re: How I found some original Atari ST ASIC designs

Thx. Funny but my google searches didn't deliver. Don't know if it is supposed to be in Google. But the trapezium shape is the standard symbol shape for a mux. Depends on where you live, in french school i had to learn a different symbol system, can be very confusing when you want to unders...

Re: Assembled list of LCD/CRT VGA monitors supporting Atari low/med res

No, simply the vga part of the monitor can't handle the 15kHz signal but the scart can because it was within specs. You have to understand that 15kHz isn't supported by vga by specification, only some monitors are able to support it, it was initatially the multisync monitors. That's the meaning of t...

Re: Assembled list of LCD/CRT VGA monitors supporting Atari low/med res

SCART is not VGA :) True, SCART is only SCART. :D I suppose if it supports low and medium resolution with the SCART connector also can by the VGA. The reason for this connection is that my ST has a switchbox where I connect the two adapter cables: one is VGA with which I have occupied the only VGA ...

Re: GAMECART, a hidden register in the STE

- GSTMCU (including MMU, STE-Shifter, Blitter) You're confusing things here, I'm afraid. The GSTMCU does not include Shifter or Blitter. The Blitter was later merged with the GSTMCU into a chip codenamed Combo. The Shifter (called GST Shifter) is always separate. In the ste indead, but i think here...

Re: Troubles with 1040STe locking up or bombing out

Pay attention that a bad capacitor isn't allways spottable by eye.
And if that's a mmu issue, then this ste is pratically doomed since it's integrated in the gst mcu (which can also integrate the blitter on later revisions), a large smt ic, unless it comes from the decoupling capacitor of this ic.

Re: Troubles with 1040STe locking up or bombing out

We're touching here a big disagreement between members of this forum, the caps in the atari are old and can fail, but it's not an absolute law, the main cap is to be checked anyway (the bigger one). This said, if you do decide to recap the motherboard, don't use low prices ones, their lifespan is sh...

3 bombs is an address error. Reference: http://www.atari-forum.com/viewtopic.php?t=14501 Does the machine lockup or bomb out when sitting idle or when reading\writing from floppy disk\gotek? I'll need to test it further, but it seems to happen during read/write sessions with the Gotek. But since I ...

Re: Troubles with 1040STe locking up or bombing out

Do your square socketed ICs have metal spring clips over the top? I powered up a 1040STe that I had put away working and had mothballed for about 15 years. When I took it out it ran fine, but then went down after about half an hour of perfect running. In my case the problem was that someone had rem...

Re: Troubles with 1040STe locking up or bombing out

Where are the best sources to find the Metal spring clips for the PLCC sockets? You can't change them, at least not easily, and this socket is different from the plcc64 sockets we find nowaday, the modern pins don't have the same implantation on the board, thus they are not compatibles. Your best b...

delayed locks or freezes like that make me think of a bad capacitor, either on the psu or the big one on the motherboard, you should check them.

Re: The different flavours of the STe ?

yup seems the last batchs of the ste had the falcon top in st color, i've seen it two or three times already. Probably because Atari didn't have any short button drives remaining (seems the drive too is the same as the falcon).
