Re: Poll about prefered scaling quality

and is it technically possible to use the HDMI output without it? HDMI output doesn't require license. Only Scaler IP requires a special license. You are free to write your own scaler which won't require license. And most likely OSSC code can be re-used. Technically speaking OSSC is NOT scaler. It'...

max horizontal resolution is 1920
max vertical resolution is 1080

you cannot set any of mentioned resolutions.

Re: Possibility of sharper HDMI output via integer scaling?

I discovered if i grab 5 apples then there will be 5 apples in my hands. Magic! 1920x1200 requires 193MHz pixel clock. I don't want to climb to this clock as some cores are already unstable. So, 1920x1080 is max supported resolution which is standard. 1920x1200 is used in some old monitors (i have s...

Re: Possibility of sharper HDMI output via integer scaling?

Good, and do you have the coefficients used by default when not using coeff.txt? Do they correspond to coeff_pp.txt? Anyway as far I understand each row is a phase with its 4 coefficients right? Different cores may use different default coefficients. Genesis uses the same default coefficients as co...

It's not Altera specific thing. It's common known polyphase filtering.

Re: Possibility of sharper HDMI output via integer scaling?

New Genesis release supports coefficients loading. You need to update MiSTer binary as well. By default Genesis uses polyphase scaling. To switch to Near Neighbor, you need to copy coeff.txt file into Genesis folder. example of coeff.txt file for NN is here: https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Main_MiST...

Re: MiSTer updates and changelog

MiSTer: - Load <core>/coeff.txt to scaler on supported cores. - ini option for vertical integer scaling. - Merge SharpMZ support code. Genesis: - Update unused bits values (NBA Jam) - Fix scanlines FX - VDP fixes (Bram Stokers Dracula, Fatal Rewind) - FM: implement LFO. Increase the volume. - Suppo...

if anyone care, then would be good to find out why MiSTer asks for 2 IPs. I have no time for this investigation.

Re: Possibility of sharper HDMI output via integer scaling?

Re: Possibility of sharper HDMI output via integer scaling?

It seems Polyphase can be turned to Near Neighbor by coefficients.
Testing now - and it looks exactly the same as NN.

Re: Poll about prefered scaling quality

Integer scaling is possible only one ONE axis while another won't be integer. In analog TV era there was no standard for pixel clock, so different systems have different pixel clocks. So in order to represent it with 4:3 aspect ratio non-integer scaling on other axis should be used.

Re: MISTer Ethernet strange behaviour

So, there are actually 2 issues. Issue with dual IP seems doesn't prevent MiSTer to access the net and can be ignored. Why MiSTer cannot access the net - lays in some other unknown issue.

Re: Possibility of sharper HDMI output via integer scaling?

I see your point, but the first stage has not to be limited to produce an image slightly smaller than the final one, it can be slightly bigger so, with your example, instead of being almost twice smaller than final one it can be doubled being slightly bigger than the final one. i.e. I tried my prev...

If i remember correct OSSC doing just integer scaling and limited to standard input resolutions.
