Re: Atari st series computers conversion PC

So, my back ordered Teensy 2 arrived yesterday, and I got it all wired up, and aside from me wiring reset to the wrong place first off, once I corrected that and flashed, I was able to use the keyboard with no issues. I'm probably going to revisit the ++ sometime later on, but for now I'm going to c...

Re: Atari st series computers conversion PC

So, no joy with the pull up resistor on the right side, is it worth trying it on the tx side?

Re: Atari st series computers conversion PC

It should work fine on the Teensy 2.0++ according to vfrvulcan. I have not tested it myself but I don't see why it shouldn't work. Maybe your ++ is faulty. Some things to try: 1. Unplug the mouse from the ST keyboard. 2. I don't think the ST keyboards have pull-up resistors on the Tx/Rx lines. Thes...

Re: Atari st series computers conversion PC

I tried last night to use the keyboard/Teensy 2++ combo via a powered usb hub, and it was just the same, so not looking like a power issue either. I guess I'm going to have to wait until my Teensy 2 that's on back order arrives  It is very strange that it works long enough for me to type quite ...

Re: Atari st series computers conversion PC

Found a Teensy 2 on RS, but it's back order, so I have done so. In the meantime I will continue to fiddle around with the 2++ I have. I'm wondering if it's a power issue.

Re: Atari st series computers conversion PC

So, VFRVulcan, I have replaced my plug with a 1 piece connector strip as per your photo, and have resoldered all of the connections to match yours, and I maybe get a minutes use out of it before it bombs out again. Flashed with the firmware you linked to. I've tried with Windows 10 and XP, Vista and...

Re: Atari st series computers conversion PC

Thanks VFR, looks like the firmware I'm using. I'm going to rewire and pick up the ground and +5v from the same place as you, plus make a better connection to the keyboard itself, as mine could be better. TBH it seemed to be working ok after the ground wire swap, BUT, I moved the keyboard and it wen...

Re: Atari st series computers conversion PC

So, I thought it worthwhile trying to swap the ground pin as you suggested, as its a quick and easy thing to do, and the damn thing is working. In fact I've just typed this whole And that is as far as I got before it went wonky again. I will rewire as per your pic above and will let you know what ha...

Re: Atari st series computers conversion PC

Cool, thanks VFRVulcan, I will try this out as soon as I get the chance, using your wiring as a guide. Can you tell me which firmare you used? Was it the Teensy 2++ hex file posted on here by Joska? I have PM'd him, but this gives me hope ti my just be a poor connection somewhere.

Re: Atari st series computers conversion PC

I've had another play with this tonight and figured I'd try it on a USB 2 port instead of USB 3 (testing on PC before going to the Pi). It seems that it works fine for half a dozen or so characters then decides that it's going to throw in random characters on a keypress, sometimes two. A lot of the...

Re: Cosmo strangeness

It's no problem Jookie, I think somewhere along the line when I had to rewrite the SD card I ended up with Yocto, then probably tried to update and got a firmware mismatch. It's all straightened out now, so I am really quite happy with it and looking forward to getting it fully installed internally ...

Re: Cosmo strangeness

So, the final hurdle was floppy disk wierdness, where accessing drive A gave an error about the data being damaged, which oddly occurred with a normal floppy drive or my HxC/Gotek attached. As soon as I disconnected ACSI, it all worked. :( So, I followed Jookies advice and reflashed as he suggested,...

Re: Cosmo strangeness

So, it turns out that the problem was the Micro SD card that came with my Cosmo (Jookie, I'm really not worried I have a load lying around :-)) The one shipped has a fault, so I simply swapped out and re wrote the Raspian image from your site and all is well, and I have an SD card formatted using IC...

Cosmo strangeness

I have a current model Cosmo, which I've probably had less than a week. I'm using it with TOS 2.06 in an STE with 4Mb RAM. The RPI is a model B+, which seems to be acceptable for Cosmo. I followed the basics document and all was up and running, with web and SSH access, and booting fine with N & ...

Re: NEW IDE Controller & TOS 2.06 board (with extras)

So, I've had another play around tonight, and got some good results. I'm using CBHD as my driver, and I am gobsmacked at just how much faster it is to format and partition that AHDI. I have a dual CF/IDE adapter connected to AlanH's IDE adapter, into which I had a 1GB card. This is in my STE 4MB. Ton...

Re: NEW IDE Controller & TOS 2.06 board (with extras)

Thanks all, I'll go back and re-read the article, as I confess it was a bit of a skim read  I'll look into the MFP 920, I may even have one lying around. Trouble is, I binned a load of kit when I moved house last August, so I'm not 100% sure. TBH, it's an STE housed in a STFM case that's alrea...

Re: NEW IDE Controller & TOS 2.06 board (with extras)

Darklord, thanks for the link, I probably should have specified that I have an STE with TOS2.06 and have HD FDD support built in, and have soldered the link to make it live. So I guess the question should be, how do I fit an HD FDD in an STE that has HD mode enabled i.e. option is visible in GEM for...

Re: NEW IDE Controller & TOS 2.06 board (with extras)

So. I've spent a lot of time over the weekend with both AHDI and CBHD, and the winner was ultimately CBHD. For whatever reason, AHDI would not allow me to install a bootable driver on C, and after much reading, faffing, testing, trying, retrying etc (You get the picture), I was able to install CBHD,...

Re: NEW IDE Controller & TOS 2.06 board (with extras)

HMM, it didn't unpack CBHD.PRG, maybe an issue with my download, so I'll get it again and try unpacking, see what happens, thanks. Will post when I've had a chance, likely this weekend. UPDATE: So, i managed to look tonight and it hadn't unpacked properly, so I have redownloaded and unpacked ok. Wil...

Re: NEW IDE Controller & TOS 2.06 board (with extras)

I peaked too soon when I said the 16GB card worked, it wouldn't let me format, but TBH I don't need a massive drive, because Atari disks only hold 720kb, so 1GB is more than enough. Might dig out some old laptop drives and have a play with a physical drive over a CF card, epecially since the STE is ...

Re: NEW IDE Controller & TOS 2.06 board (with extras)

So it looks like my 16GB CF card works with AHDI as well, it's formatting as we speak :D I'm struggling to find CBHD though, so if anybody has a good link please.... I have been able to find cbhd502.tos, and I can extract it on my STE, but I have no way of compiling the extracted files at present :?...

Re: NEW IDE Controller & TOS 2.06 board (with extras)

I've got up and running successfully with AHDI, and I can see the drive and access it :D At the moment it's still in bits across my desk, so I have time/options and am certainly considering giving CBHD as an option, and I'm not going to plump for one driver just yet. AHDI was amazingly easy to set u...

Re: NEW IDE Controller & TOS 2.06 board (with extras)

Well, my STE IDE board arrived earlier in the week and I've spent some time tinkering today to get it installed. I took Alan's advice and took my time lining up the pins to the cpu socket before I inserted, and it was well worth it. Despite a scary level of force to insert the board, the STE booted f...
