Re: OutRun, positively surprised

Turbo Outrun, Outrun Europe is better ported for most platforms I think. Outrun (the original) however, is the game many people misses a decent port for, because it has so much potential and originality. The later Turbo Outrun and the unofficial sequel Outrun Europa feels more like just another driv...

Re: OutRun, positively surprised

I have both Outrun, Turbo Outrun and Outrunners on upright driving arcade. Outrunners is technically much better, naturally its several years newer. But Outrun is more fun and feels better to play, more moody kind off. Outrunners feels a little cartoonish, more like Super mario cart.

Re: OutRun, positively surprised

QUOTE FROM AUTHOR OF CANONBALL - "The original OutRun code has been ported from the original assembly. I spent over three years reverse engineering, commenting and finally porting the codebase. You can read the gruelling history on the blog. That codebase, like many games of its era, is not par...

Re: OutRun, positively surprised

There is a very good remake of the original arcade version for PC called Canonball, this one is free but uses the original arcade ROM's. Maybe it would be helpful if the author would share his source code for that one to be used in an ST version? There also is a thread about the possibilities of mak...

Re: OutRun, positively surprised

Test Drive, saw it first on IBM PC, XT computer with Hercules S/W i think. I was extremely intrigued. First person view, good realistic graphics of the cars in the intro. Later played it on C64, it had sampled speech in the intro (Accolade presents), good graphics in the opening, very good. Later I ...

Re: OutRun, positively surprised

I also tested the Amiga version the last night. Terrible, unplayable, all the bad rumors about this port is true. Both graphic and sounds seems not as good as the ST version (first game I test that has better sound on ST I think). On the Amiga version, the game starts with trees growing in the aspha...

Re: OutRun, positively surprised

If you played it in the arcades first and then ran to the shop and got ST or any version, you would be a little dissapointed, thats understandable. It was a superb game on arcade in 1986, and still is great.

OutRun, positively surprised

I've tested OutRun on my 520 ST. I know many people was disappointed about the port not only for ST but also for most of the other computers. I was actually positively surprised when testing this game. I think both the graphics and the music was very good in ST version of the game. It misses the spe...

Re: 3D - F030 vs Amiga 1200

[quote="Zamuel_a"]Many games were developed on the Atari first and after that, ported to the Amiga. It was easier to port an Atari game to the Amiga than the opposite and the makers wanted to earn money fast.[/quote That is true. There wasn't much revenue to earn by using resources in the ...

Re: 3D - F030 vs Amiga 1200

360 KB and 720 Kb and 1440 KB floppy is better than 880 KB and 1.8 MB Floppy? Don't be ridiculous. Atari has HD floppy controller since Mega STE. TT anf F030 have even ED controller. Of course, you can format the floppy with 10 or 11 sectors to achieve higher capacity. No Amiga has true HD controll...

Re: 3D - F030 vs Amiga 1200

Actually the A4000 bus is slower than the A1200 bus. But fire away, I am pretty interested to see what a 030 A4000 can do. Why are you hang up with the A4000EC30, this is the economy model which came later. The A4000 that came in -92 when F030 also came, is 040 as you now, there is no -92 A4000 wit...

Re: 3D - F030 vs Amiga 1200

Because the fact that you choose the entry level Amiga model to be compared to the flag ship Atari model says it all. And also want to compare only the 3D speed. BTW, what makes the A4000 so "highend" except its astronomical price? A4000 has exactly the same chipset as the A1200. Exactly t...

Re: 3D - F030 vs Amiga 1200

Amiga 1200 was the low end entry model, replacing Amiga 600 and Amiga 500+. The high end model was the Amiga 4000/040 replacing the Amiga 3000. A year later the "low cost" Amiga 4000EC/030 was released and at last the 4000 tower with either 040 or 060.

Re: 3D - F030 vs Amiga 1200

The blitter in the Amiga is used for the real time dragging of separate screens in the OS. For example having 320x200 128 colors and 640x512 16 colors on screen simultaneously. For that unique feature of the Amiga OS, it works perfectly on both OCS, ECS and AGA screens. Even if the blitter is the sa...

Re: 3D - F030 vs Amiga 1200

I'm aware a good programmer can get some additional speed by taking use of the DSP, but the real life speed increase compared to just using the 030 instead is not that extreme that some Atari ST fanatics claims it is. And when the DSP are being used, it has some down sides, like slowing the RAM bus ...

Re: 3D - F030 vs Amiga 1200

To add Fast RAM in the PCMCIA on the A1200 is cheap, but will make the A1200 even a little bit slower than stock when using only CHIP RAM. Because the PCMCIA are only 16 bit.

Re: 3D - F030 vs Amiga 1200

By using the blitter to do vectors instead, the Amiga get's faster than when only using CPU. on a game console field amiga had some advantages (like blitter). But the ST was much more than a game console, it was real computer. And on that field the ST had much more advantages than amiga, like more ...
