Re: Core porting questions

Great work! The sound was also a long standing bug!

Time for me to update the compatibility spreadsheet :)

Re: Core porting questions

P.S.: i think, it can be a standard feature for all cores rather than NES only. Potentially every console can use this feature. Yes, this would be extremely useful. It would also benefit the GB and Genesis cores at least. For SMS/GG only a handful of games support saves but having the option would ...

Re: Connected MiSTer to 4:3 CRT via HDMI to Composite

Where I used to live as a kid the power was often unreliable. That translated to my monochrome screen having waves that would slowly go from top to bottom of the screen. Since it was pretty slow it was still usable, at some point you just got used to it and ignored it...

Re: I/O Board

Would it be possible to make an IO board that does not use any SMD components? That would make it buildable by many more people... myself included :) Not sure what can be done for the SD card though, unless maybe using a cable to connect to one of Arduino mini PCBs. Or would not using SMD affect the...

"New" is just the kernel with the xpad update. Old one is from the regular SD card installer (latest version as of yesterday).

Re: Joystick testing thread

Great news, the Xbox one controllers work in wired mode with the new Linux image! Only caveat is that the analog stick is way too sensitive so best not to use it at all. It's probably related to the range problems Sorgelig pointed out). I also tried the Xbox One receiver for Windows but it did not w...

Re: Joystick testing thread

So a quick check of the XBox one controller... it seems to freeze the USB bus so the keyboard doesnt work anynore. :/ Perhaps the power draw is too strong. I'll have to try to find a powered hub.

Indeed; I think I just assigned some unusual axis to a couple of VID:PID. As you said some of them have really random wiring or varying dead zones.

The Apple II core uses analog controllers :)

Re: Joystick testing thread

Xbox has their own receiver for PC... but it probably needs a Windows specific driver. I have to say, one nice and unique thing it has is the ability to send audio to the gamepad so you can plug a headset to it.

I'll try the gamepads in wired mode when I get a chance.

Re: Joystick testing thread

In any case controller support on MiSTer is so much better than MiST. :D Having XBox one controllers would be nice, but I think they use some proprietary handshake protocol which would be annoying to figure out. I bought a few more 8bitdo receivers for my SNES so that should get me running for MiSTe...

Re: The last MIST

MiSTICA may be a clone, but there was clearly effort put into making useful upgrades and the pcb was clearly reworked significantly. MiST itself was reworked and upgraded from Minimig hardware if I'm not mistaken. Other clones (which I won't name) remove features instead of adding anything. It is st...

I split my cores across multiple cards, sometimes by family. It helps pre-select what you want for lack of folders :)

Fair enough, was hoping it could load from sub-folders.

That's only possible in MISTer. There are also cores that need certain folders but you can find details in the readme files in Github.

I'm not surprised the Xbox controllers do not work. That said, USB support is better than the MiST. Often a controller might just need a small firmware tweak.

Re: Mister... no USB devices are recognized...

it's interesting to know how this 8bitdo USB adapter works. Does it require a special driver for pairing dualshock controller for example? If it completely independent from OS and acts as a generic HID device, then it would be really good solution. Yes it needs no drivers, I have both the NES and S...
