Re: C64 core problems.....

Exactly. Conpatibility lists are still useful to check if somebody else ran a particular game, but it can stay as is for a long time.

Re: M

I suppose then that emulators do implement all these hearders then, right? Implementing too many headers on an FPGA may not be possible because of timing constraints. Each new header makes the memory selection lines more complex and we will eventually hit a hard limit. Whether the limit is far enou...

Re: Perfecting existing cores

For example, Blazing Lazers gets unplayable and corrupted once you finish the first half of first stage and Street Fighter II' Champion Edition has similar issues. SFII actually is the biggest ROM on PCE HuCards and has a one-off a custom mapper. Would be nice to fix it (given the game) but it also...

Re: Perfecting existing cores

The thing of the NES is that games correspond to specific mappers so you can check how many extra games would be supported by implementing a mapper. On a computer core this would be more difficult. That said at least the Gameboy and PC Engine core have missing mappers too, each covering a few games.

What is new in it? As far as I can tell it has the MIDI connectors built-in, but that means we lose the four expansion port pins for other uses?

Re: Perfecting existing cores

Sounds good. I also have a Zx-Uno but I must admit I've been using it less than the MiST. As far as I can tell both cores are written differently (due to Altera vs. Xilinx IP/macros) but perhaps a common standard can be made.

Perfecting existing cores

(splitting from the Jupiter ACE thread) Certainly, taking into account coders' motivation is important but I think the motivation is not only fun, there is also a social aspect. When we, coders, see people enjoying our work and giving us appreciation back, it feels great. So recognition is a factor ...

Re: Jupiter Ace arrives at MiST

I (slowly) maintain a list of all cores and their status: http://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1P1LPndBDkcSSG9Cxco8NGMnihYyO-4FIvz1kcyZ7vi4 It's from a user perspective though, so it doesn't address code quality and such. It's also important, IMO, to keep it fun to developers; so imposing too many ...

The MiST SCART cable should do the trick? It's not too expensive. Or you don't have SCART perhaps?

That reninds me I still haven't tried to build mine...

Re: Jupiter Ace arrives at MiST

I don't think it's that simple; it probably needs somebody to check the timings on the original hardware. That said, if developrs can outline some busywork to "farm out" I'm sure there will be some volunteers.

Re: Jupiter Ace arrives at MiST

Well some of us could contact him and safeguard the source just in case. Also the arcade cores can probably use some rework to exrernalize the ROMs to avoid any copyright issues.

I think the problem is the MiST SDRAM is not fast enough to multiplex ROM data.

The joystick test is part of the firmware. Should be accessible from most of the cores that use the standard menu (some cores have their own OSD).

Mine still works but the spring broke meaning the cards won't eject any more. Luckily they stick out enough that I can remove it without much problem.

One strange thing I noticed is that the music in Dragon's Fury is slowed down... even though the whole game seems to be at full speed. Not a big deal, but thought I'd mentioned in case you're looking for bug reports / noticeable differences with the original.

He could still publish his code minus the copyrighted part.

I guess this shows the need to have a core load data externally to avoid such problems. But obviously that's harder to write since you need to grab the files from the SD card and store them in memory.

For "hex state" see the wiki page on joystick usb mapping. Long story short you can map combination of buttons to individual keys.

Re: How to map keyboard keys to joypad buttons?

Just to clarify, are you trying to make your gamepad act as keyboard right? Not the opposite (use keyboard without gamepad). The relevant code is in /usb/joy_mapping.c in the firmware. There is a function to map via .ini but its not documented. I don't remember if it's because it doesn't work well o...

That's so weird... but I did notice the core has some strange color problems even with an HDMI upscaler. For example in R-Type, at some points the background becomes darker (when it doesn't do it on the original). Maybe for some obscure reason it happens all the time on your board... but can't reall...
