Re: MIST and AV signal

Maybe polarity can be reversed in the HDL? Is it just a matter of doing a NOT gate?

Re: MIST and AV signal

Can you try the Apple II core? It gave me some odd results on a PVM... so perhaps the scandoubler disable option isn't working that well on it.

Re: MIST and AV signal

Doesn't SCART support SVideo? You can get one of the simple converters (pin adapter really)

Re: Analogue Super NT

Looks like I forgot that the LKV362A could convert frequencies. Thats useful for the cores that can run without the scandoubler.

Re: Analogue Super NT

They do. I had much better luck with a SCART to HDMI converter once I got rid of an old TV and the new one accepted 50hz. But I'm just sticking to the original question about handling the conversion, for which not many options seem to exist. Next step above the GBS seems to be the XRGB, which works ...

Re: Analogue Super NT

Right, so what do you recommend instead?

For cores that run at 60hz one can use a regular VGA to HDMI upscaler. The issue is converting 50hz to 60hz.

There is some hope for the GBS though:

Re: Analogue Super NT

It is what it is at $30, but it handles 50hz to 60hz conversion more or less decently. What else is there out there that can do that at a similar price?

Re: Analogue Super NT

Since some people here seem to have quite some experience with the issue. What you would recommended for an affordable decent VGA to HDMI upscaler with frame buffer? I don't mind the lag at all, but I do need/want refresh rate conversion Frame rate conversion is going to be the problem, not even th...

Re: Analogue Super NT

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad the OSSC exists as the XRGB is getting rarer and there is no replacement in sight, and also since it is fully open source and documented hardware. It isn't cheap though, so I can only recommend saving the money for an XRGB if you can get one. If not, OSSC is still a very...

Re: Analogue Super NT

The XRGB Framemeister is hands down the best upscaler I've used. It's pricey but it has taken absolutely everything that I threw at it. Yes, it has one to two frames of lag but they are negligible compared to emulators. The Super NT has a few upscaling modes to allow the user to choose - either use ...

Re: Analogue Super NT

According to what i found, Mini Nt uses original old-school chips, not FPGA. Actually: ⋅ Analogue NT = uses Famicom chips ⋅ Analogue NT Mini = FPGA and smaller form factor ⋅  Super NT = FPGA and much cheaper case I have used an original NT, it's a very sleek piece of h...

Re: Analogue Super NT

I don't think it makes a lot of sense to port cores to it, at least right now. There are more MISTs in the wild and MiSTer is completely open running on easily available boards with much more resources (the Super NT has about 40KLE) Plus there is no way to plug a keyboard, so only console amd arcade...

There is a JB firmware released but I don't think.it has cores this time. And yes it's all closed source, unfortunately.

Re: Analogue Super NT

I suspect there is an intention to do more than a SNES core. It might not be released publicly but if they open up an API to develop for it, that would be interesting for open source cores.

Re: MiST VGA upscaling experiments

I know, my hopes aren't very high. :D I have three same VGA to HDMI converters (same chip, diff box) but they are limited by resolution, only 480p proper VGA input works. Most cores will run with it, but for more flexibility I can get them to run with a GBS2000 in preprocessing. This seems a way to ...

Re: MiST VGA upscaling experiments

Now this is pretty interesting: https://m.aliexpress.com/item/32838492457.html?pid=808_0000_0109&spm=a2g0n.search-amp.list.32838492457 It looks like a new version of the GBS8200, except it also upscales directly into HDMI. It should be better quality than the usual VGA to HDMI convertes and will...

Re: Script launcher menu and Linux hooks fantasies

many things are looking small and fast alone, but feature by feature linux will become heavier. Currently linux on MiSTer is headless. So besides the X Windows itself, it will need more features around it. Multi boot is the right way to go without overloading the original linux. Yes please keep the...

How about doing those scripts for a PC first? It can connect to MiSTer and update it remotely via FTP.

Re: MiSTer in arcade cabinet

I suppose it is also possible to wire the USB encoders to the JAMMA edge so that everything works as a standard arcade board. As a quick solution there are some JAMMA extender cables out there that can be cut to serve as a breakout cable, then one just needs to plug the cables to the encoder boards ...

MiSTer in arcade cabinet

(creating a thread to discuss outside of the IO Board topic) Anyway... I would like to use MiSTer with the joystick and button hardware in my arcade cabinet so that implies a large number of button interfaces and probably some kind of isolation between the DE10-Nano and the hardware... the I/O board...
