Re: Core porting questions

It's a very good thing if custom core handling can be removed from the firmware. I'd imagine that will make future hardware ports easier. :)

Re: Core porting questions

Just to clarify, the firmware code in MiST has special handling for the Minimig and AtariST cores. i believe the Archimedes core as well but I can't remember. Every other core shares a common "backend" otherwise. MiSTer firmware was ported from it so there is still that special handling in...

I think he means the size and the connectors. Granted it ended up needing a bit of a case mod, but not a big one.

Re: Genesis Core

The SMS, Atari800, and NES cores could use some love. Any cool kids at those tables? ;) The NES core is pretty solid, have you seen recent developmemts on save ram support? And I'm no expert but I beliebe the 5200/800 core is pretty much perfect in terms of game compatibility (it is developed by fo...

Re: PC Engine core

Wow! Amazing progress! The Supergrafx is completely backwards compatible with the older PC Engine. In theory one could get a SuperGrafx with a CD extension to play the entire library of games, but the CD addon is notoriously weak and prone to failure. So people recommend the Duo units instead, givin...

According to this thread there is an encrypted ROM for R-Type USA, so try to run the decrypted one to see if it works:

Re: PC Engine core

As far as I know, the region protection on the PCE is some pins swapped in hardware, plus a software check for US titles (done by the game card).

Is it the only 512kb game showing the issues? I wonder if it's some kind of mapper problem.

You even can play games not supporting the joystick originally if you assign the proper keys.

I have 2 issues with ÚSB joysticks: 1) https://koka-shop.de/competition-pro-usb-koka-exclusive-edition.html I bought the USB Comp Pro. I was able to define directions and buttons over the core menu, and it worked fine in the menu. However I can't get any response in the NES core. 2) https://www.eba...

Indeed. And if anybody wants to spend further time on the core, I'd rather have CD support or SF2' [*] support over complicated save schemes. ;) [*] The game plays but it needs a custom mapper logic for character graphics, and support two 6 button pads (otherwise you have to press Select to switch f...

Re: PC Engine core

Saves on PCE are a bit weird. There were 2K (IIRC) of memory on the console, powered by a capacitor. No game had battery backup on the cart, and later games where on CD. The saves could get deleted if you didn't power on the console for a long time! So devices came out to backup the data to a specia...

Re: Core contributions to MiSTer

What I could offer as suggestion / idea is to improve some console cores such as the PC Engine. It's already working well, but the missing games are worth the effort. CD support is probably too much work, but that also has many good games such as Neo Geo ports.

Re: Using a VGA capture device with MiST?

I use the XCapture 1 for all my captures. Pricey but well worth it and reliable! How it works with non scan doubled output, and with timing that is not VGA standard as many classic platforms use? It takes 240p fine. Here's a larger overview: https://thethrillness.blogspot.com/2015/08/micomsoft-xcap...
