Very cool system, I'm glad I don't live closer or I'd be tempted.

Re: Unknown modification

All TOS-versions can ready HD-floppies with the correct hardware. But only TOS 2.x and upwards can format HD floppies with the TOS desktop formatter. Interesting; I must have been thrown off by the fact that HD disks on STs arrived with those TOS versions. I never had much interest in High Density ...

If you can put a PC HD drive in there you can (apparently load TOS 2.06 in RAM, and test to see if it works then with HD disks: http://www.atari-wiki.com/index.php/Ins ... _disk-file

Re: Steem SSE beta

I use VirtualBox all day and only Steem gives me mouse problems. But do you use other programs that capture the mouse like Steem? (don't say WinUAE!) True, I don't use others that capture the mouse. Steem isn't able to capture the host's mouse outside the VM (no matter whether or not 'capture mouse...

Re: Unknown modification

Odd that it's a 720KB drive. Wouldn't the mod would have to be disabled to use with a non-HD drive? Maybe it is disabled.

Also, you'd have to use at least TOS 2.05 to read an HD floppy, what is your TOS version?

I bought an XRGB-3 when I noticed one cheap on eBay a couple of years ago; great bit of kit, I'll buy a Framemeister in an instant if I ever need the HDMI support.

-Yes, there's mouse trouble with some virtual machines. -It's not limited to Steem. I use VirtualBox all day and only Steem gives me mouse problems. The easy workaround is to uncheck Input->Mouse Integration. If you do this you have to use right control (or whatever you have set your "host key...

Re: Best emulator for debugging

The only problem is that Steem simply does not work for me. Have tested it both on a virtual machine (VirtualBox) with XP and on Linux with Wine. Keyboard and mouse only works partially, on XP mouse and keyboard goes "berzerk" and I have to reboot the virtual machine. I'll try it on real ...

Odd, your images showed up on my PC, but wouldn't load into some paint programs, but PSP9 loaded them, I re-saved and uploaded, and now they work. Strange. Very odd: the original images didn't work for me in Chrome (blank) nor on my iPhone (solid black), but Microsoft Edge (some kind of Windows 10 ...

So I'm wondering what do I get paying £10 to Peter at 8bitchip?< I'm happy to but not sure what benefit it will give me. You get to know that you have given something back to the person who created and maintains the driver. You can also partition SD cards yourself, allowing up to about 7GB per card...

Re: Horizontal Parallax Bitplane Scrolling Demonstration

This is very cool, good to see the tradition of Beast-style demos being continued! I like the trade-off of bitplanes for speed, I wish more ST games had been willing to sacrifice colours. I was thinking about ways in which the approach differed to earlier demos, and came up with this list of Shadow ...

Re: Side 2 of single-sided disk - tools to use side 2?

The later ST Format coverdisks had a very cool structure where the side 1 content was accessible to all, and the side 2 content was in a special SIDE_2 folder that could only be opened on double sided drives. No AUTO folder programs needed, just a carefully arranged disk. I would guess that writing ...

Re: If you had one Atari wish for updated Atari device, what would it be?

A device that can flawlessly and with no lag upscale all ST, TT, and Falcon video modes to common TV and monitor resolutions (including 720p and 1080p, but also 4:3 and 5:4) with optional scanlines, letterboxing, and overscan, and SVGA and HDMI output.

Re: New here after advice on my recent atari st purchase

An admin will delete the duplicate threads. Price seems OK, but is pretty irrelevant compared to how much you may end up spending on accessories ;) . I wouldn't rush to update the TOS, but it depends what you want to do with it. Newer versions add features but can reduce compatibility, especially wi...

There's a whole forum for DM fans who create clones and custom versions: http://www.dungeon-master.com/forum/ - they've made all sorts of tools to extract and re-add the graphics: http://dmweb.free.fr/?q=node/706 You'd probably start with the cracked and HD adapted version, which already works on th...

Re: Wrong colours

Could it be something like bad resistors messing up the output of the shifter? The three bits for each colour are mixed together by a really simple arrangement of resistors and diodes. Might be worth checking their values, and that there are no bad solder joints around there. (This is from the 520ST...

Re: Best monitor setup?

The ST end is a 13-pin DIN. It's not very common and as a monitor connector it's ST-specific, so you're looking for a cable that says something like "Atari ST to SCART". You probably won't find it in a store, try eBay, e.g. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Atari-ST-High-Quality-RGB-GOLD-Scart-AV-...

That's awesome, thanks! I often poke through online issues of ST Format for information, filling in the gaps is great news.

I'd completely forgotten about STampede; looking back I remember buying most of those. I'll download and have a read through the disks later.

Re: Monitor woes

Where do you live? What resolution(s) do you want to use? You can of course use Atari/Commodore/Philips etc. CRT monitors from back in the day. In Europe a SCART cable should work for low/medium resolution (maybe some newer TVs have problems though?). Some older LCD monitors can natively display all...

Wow they made it a bit of a hassle to get at the programs; no wonder no-one has bothered looking into these disks since they were archived. ST Format had a much simpler approach with the side switch program and then the even simpler SIDE_2 folder. Would be a shame to lose the information on them tho...

Re: Can I use an internal ultrasatan?

Yes, you can solder a connector to the inside of the ACSI port and to the pins of some nearby components, a bit fiddly but not too difficult. Some info here: viewtopic.php?t=26799
