Re: MiST and MIDI questions

I've just updated the compatibility list . Overall compatibility is up, and I was able to get a few applications working that weren't before. Unfortunately it seems that the most recent firmware/core combination also breaks a few applications that were working before (like Laurie Spiegel's Music Mou...

Re: YM2151 sound chip cloned on MIST

MSX Music (FM PAC) standard uses OPLL YM2413, ths same that uses also the Sega Master System at Japan and supported by a lot of games and software, and MSX Audio (Music Module) uses an OPL compatible chip, the Y8950, with very few games supporting it but great for music software and demoscene. Soun...

Re: YM2151 sound chip cloned on MIST

This is fantastic!!! One thing that comes to mine is that it is nearly identical to the YM2164, which I used to own in the form of a Yamaha FB-01. These chips were packaged as FM expansion units for MSX computers, and were even built into Yamaha's own MSX computers, aimed specifically at music produ...

Re: MiST and MIDI questions

It has a CPLD in it that responds to messages on the bus and we just need to figure out what logic was programmed into it. I have two dongles, including one partially wired up to my logic analyzer already, I just haven't been able to motivate myself to get down into my office and organize my set up...

Re: MiST and MIDI questions

Hello what is the status now of MiST running Cubase, Notator SL is it possible to be a replacement for real Atari for work? Legit copies of Cubase and Notator still can't run. Cracks of Cubase run pretty well (2.01 and 3.0 working the best), but cracks were buggy even on real hardware, so expect si...

Re: MiST and MIDI questions

I started a spreadsheet a while back for keeping track of compatibility for midi applications just for myself, might be useful for others: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1JPD-0gwsD9a3mO15UKIQHPp_vXcFknjm-x4uXBaGx5c/edit?usp=sharing Haven't updated it in months though, so might need to try so...

Re: MiST and MIDI questions

I started to hook my Salae Logic 16 up to the cartridge port of my 1040 running Notator, but it's awkward -- a) not enough pins on the logic probe b) can't reach half the pins. Might be easier if I cracked open the dongle, as I have two of them, but that makes me nervous, especially given what I se...

Re: MiST and MIDI questions

This limits the current to 5V/3*220ohms = 7.5mA in short circuit or 5mA if the opto couplers LED on the receiver side drops 1.7V as (5V-1.7V)/3*220ohms = 5mA. This is what the MIDI standard assumes. I want to mention that I just tried an M-Audio Midiman Thru 1x4, parasitically powered by my unmodif...

Re: MiST and MIDI questions

did you test a external midi keyboard? I've been using the MiST with my Roland PC-200 mkII (and outputting to an SC-55), and everything works great: polyphony, velocity, pitch bend, modulation, program change, etc. Only thing I haven't had the time to try is sysex dumps, but I can't imagine there w...

Re: MiST - FPGA ST

I have a lot of midi gear and I've done a great deal of testing. I actually have been keeping a spreadsheet of compatibility/bugs for my own use (just to know what works and what doesn't and how i got certain things to work), but I would be happy to share it if you think it could be helpful. I think...

Re: New MiST crashing

Firmware version seems to be ATH140724. Amedia sent me a link to a new firmware which I'll try tomorrow. Minimig is the latest one off from Till's page: http://harbaum.org/till/mist/index.shtml. I did limited testing on the VGA monitor and still had crashes. I'm fairly certain this is your problem....

Re: Should I buy a MIST?

If your favorite vintage gaming platforms are the Atari or Amiga, then the answer is probably yes. The MiST really has that old school feel , a certain immediacy and novelty and warmth. But the future of the other cores seems kind of uncertain. If you're looking just to get a good set of emulators w...

Looking for The Digital Muse: Virtuoso (1988)

I stumbled upon this little-known MIDI sequencer, and I can't seem to find much information about it, let alone a copy for sale or for download. One of the only results that turns up isn't exactly flattering: The Digital Muse (TDM) 'Virtuoso' 1988 Midi Sequencer for Atari This was the British answer...

Re: MiST and MIDI questions

Since getting the new MiST with MIDI I've been experimenting with lots of different MIDI programs. It's really incredible how compatible this little machine is and how much fun it is to wire it up to MIDI gear and set an algorithmic phrase generator to let loose... heavy nostalgia. I wanted to share...
