Re: The Atari ST (and others) and the Creative People

Marco's book was published in English because there are a lot more people able to read English vs. German. A Kickstarter for a German-language book would've most likely failed. Despite some flaws, both books - Marco's and Marty's - contain a lot of research and passion for the respective subjects. A...

Re: GEM Games

GEM games usually work at a fixed resolution i.e. the graphics don't scale up. Only some games offer bigger alternative tiles.

Asteroids should scale up (vector graphics) and GEM Elite TNK was quite impressive.

It's on SuperGAU User Disk 114 - that's where I got it for my TOS special for ST-Computer magazine.

Re: The Falcon's confusing history

Atari computers were purloined for industry (I got my TT from a knitting factory, where it ran an industrial machine), in the automotive industry they ran the show. There was special ST in Germany in industrial case special for CNC and other purposes! (I always forget model name... :/) Industrial S...

Pretty graphics, but no level design.

Great work!

I do feel sorry for the developers though - they spent weeks on this game and it didn't even sell 100 copies? :(

Re: TT030 clone - is it possible ?

I guess if the Falcon 040 Microbox had ever been released, that would have been the 'more serious work computer'? I do love my TT030 though, it's nice, just wish it'd had more graphic modes. It would've made the TT obsolete - better graphics, more expansion slots, faster CPU. Atari pre-announced th...

Re: Atari Portable

Out of interest for the cart port for cubase use -- is this mostly for the dongle, or also for additional MIDI ports etc? Both actually - many music programs came with a ROM port dongle, but it was used for all kind of extensions as well, e.g. the Midex: http://stcarchiv.de/tos1990/11/midex Other p...

Re: Atari Portable

Wolfgang Foerster's (Suska) implementation of the ST/E chipset should be pretty much complete. For MIDI apps, you'd absolutely need the cartridge slot. Maybe call it the STE Pad, to give it a nice marketing spin (the ST tablet is here!) although I doubt that the special TOS version of the original S...

Re: ED (2.88mb) Floppy Upgrade for Falcon

There was a DIY project in ST-Computer 03/93 page 104 that described the modifications necessary to use an ED drive in an Atari (not just Falcon). Me being not a hardware expert, it looked very complicated. I'll probably upload the HTMLized article this weekend to stcarchiv, although I'd suggest you...

Well done. Another successful preservation. Will you share the STX dumps you have created? Yes, but by 16/32 Systems. They also released all the other developed games. IIRC, 16/32 released them after Atari had given up the Falcon.

Re: Call for (not so technical) questions -- Atari's product manager 1991-96

I'd like to read something about the other two members of the Falcon family, the Microbox and the Falcon 040. Did Atari design two different computers? Does he know anything about the fate of TOS 5 and its supposed feature set? When was the PowerPad (not the Jagpad) released? Why was there no suppor...

I found that ejp faq quite interesting. If my tests are successful gfa will have new command for a reading jaguar controller. Unfortunately I sold my gray jag controller and can only test in Hatari which has limited joypad support so I need someone to try test app. ;) I can test it on my Falcon wit...

Yes, the photo is wrong. It was actually wrong in the original magazine too – they accidentally used the photo of the ReSolution card twice.

It was done commercially with the ODIN graphics card which was an external solution and didn't require a Mega or VME bus: http://stcarchiv.de/stm1992/06/odin Ah, a ROM port solution. I have such an idea ony my mind for many years. A simple, cheap (a small FPGA + SRAM based) plug&play solution t...

Re: Games that support Jaguar controllers?

I would also agree with the bundle, developers definitely would have added more support if everyone had a nice gamepad. Though at the time, what computers were shipping with gamepads? Even these days most people don't game with a gamepad on their PC. Granted, I'm weird, 'cause I have game controlle...
