Re: SCP disk images !

It's always been the case that if there is data under the index pulse that you have to capture 2 revolutions.

What 3.5" drive did you test? I don't see this with Samsung 321 and a few others that I have tested.

Re: SCP disk images !

Ah... ok, that makes sense then. Yeah, the disk itself can actually "wobble" on the hub as it rotates.

Re: SCP disk images !

Look at the end of the track (to the next index pulse). You will likely see that the track is just shifted forwards/backwards in reference to the index mark. The bitcell times are still all the same (when taking account for drive speed). Some drives apparently do this, and definitely the ones I have...

Re: News games checked.

There is at least one eBay seller offering a ton of what appears to be original Amiga disks that are copies created on a Mountain Computing (TRACE) machine ... How do you know they were created on a Trace duplicator and not on some other hardware? Because they told me what machine they were using w...

Re: News games checked.

There is at least one eBay seller offering a ton of what appears to be original Amiga disks that are copies created on a Mountain Computing (TRACE) machine, with the labels done in silkscreen - even though many of the games never had silkscreen labels - they had printed paper labels.

Re: News games checked.

It's not uncommon to see bad files with good CRCs. This occurs with some disk copiers that pull as much valid data as possible and they write that data back with correct CRCs.

Re: News games checked.

I looked at Joe and Mac, and a few of the other images. Whoever uploaded these needs to throw the drive away. These are some of the worst images I have ever seen. Besides having really dirty heads, there is a severe drive speed problem. So, either the drive is bad (which I believe is the case) or th...

Re: SCP disk images !

The write splice(s) cause the track length to change on every revolution, unless there is some absolute luck and there is only a single write splice and that write splice ends up being exactly within the window of a bitcell (4us/6us/8us). Anything out of the upper/lower bounds will cause the drive t...

Re: SCP disk images !

I don't see it with any drives I have tested. You can use the editor/analyzer to re-read a track over and over. It really doesn't make sense for the position to change. The rotational location of the head and index pulse should be physically the same unless the center hub was slipping.

Re: SCP disk images !

The bitcell duration changes depending on when the index pulse is read due to drive speed, but the position in relation to the head should not be able to change. The disk is spinning, the head is reading the same position of where the hall sensor is detecting the index magnet. Unless you had a reall...

Re: SCP disk images !

By the way, if you dump from index to index, you are never going to be missing any data. That will spool 100% of the bitcells contained within a single revolution. The very first bitcell time and the very last bitcell time needs to be added together and replaces either the first or last bitcell tim...

Re: SCP disk images !

Supercard Ami (released in 1987, based around work on did on the Copy II option board) used the same modes that SuperCard Pro does. INDEX mode uses a single revolution, starting and stopping on the index mark for the read. On a write, the same is true. SPLICE is indentical to INDEX mode when doing r...

I agree with Igor. There were several titles that pre-date CopyLock and used NFA on the Amiga.

Re: KICK OFF 2 + WORLD CUP 90

Thing is that with a copier like powercopy you can copy any copylock (even those made on atari ST), so i guess the NFA has been added to be sure that no home equipment can replicate it. Supercard Ami (Amiga hardware based disk copier) could duplicate any strong bit (NFA) protection just using it's ...

Re: KICK OFF 2 + WORLD CUP 90

First of all, I don't give a crap what anyone says, the Anco titles were NEVER protected by ANYTHING that Rob (Nothern) created... period. Rob never did ANY variations of CopyLock that used strong bits (NFA), per Rob himself. The information for controlling the SuperCard Pro hardware is readily avai...
