Re: Thing 1.50 crashes

Is this program, thing 1.5 or later, still available anywhere? It was on AtariForge, which has been down for a while. I'm not sure it's available anywhere else yet, but people are bound to have sources and binaries of it (edit: see this post: http://www.atari-forum.com/viewtopic.php?p=335947#p33594...

Re: The 3-in-1 monitor adapter for the Falcon030 now available again!

I only use a handful of applications on the Falcon (namely Turboass/Bugaboo/DSPdit/DSPdbug and a few others) but it does sound tempting. Let me know of the price Daniel!

To my knowledge all the sources in TOPP have been added to this repository https://github.com/ggnkua/Atari_ST_Sources or https://bitbucket.org/ggnkua/atari_st_sources or https://gitlab.com/ggnkua/Atari_ST_Sources (sorted by language, author)

Re: Bad Apple by Fenarinarsa (Atari STe demo) !!!!!

As someone who has released 2 demos that stream in data from the hard drive during runtime using GEMDOS (i.e. system is still running in the background) (http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=64940 http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=64940) I can only agree that this is not as trivial as it sounds! Do you fellow veteran Atarians think it would be possible for someone to begin their journey in Atari ST demo creation/programming in 2017?
If yes, what are your suggestions to take a first step?

There's certainly no law against it! Also, here is some source code to get you going.

Not entirely true! rmac can perform this trick, and for bonus it has 56001 support almost complete :).

Ok, dude, that's harsh. You are right. I apologize, but's that's just my POV. Sure, but still. First of all it's mine and Doug's free time and we do whatever we damn want with it Of course. I just wished that ppl developing for the atari platform, and then publish their work, would do something mor...

Re: gcc 7.1 for the ST series

At least for now we had to change 0 lines of code with 2 major revisions of gcc. The changes to port the mint patches from gcc 4.6.4 to gcc 7.x where also minimal, so that goal of having a newer compiler could have been achieved which much less effort. Given that there are not such many people arou...

Re: gcc 7.1 for the ST series

[a) Future proofness. ELF format is going to stay for a long while, but what about a.out? Don't know, but i don't really care.[/url] That's exactly the reason why this build was started: don't know when/if a.out will be out, don't really care either now - brownout will work for decades. Re: gcc 7.1 for the ST series

BTW i still don't understand that effort to compile into elf objects only to have to use a separate tool to create working executables. It's still as easy as before to configure gcc 7.1 to create mint executables just like gcc 4.6.4 did. Two things come to mind a) Future proofness. ELF format is go...

Re: gcc 7.1 for the ST series

Time passes... and another gcc version is out! gcc 7.2 is released for a while now and we did test our build script with it, just searched and replaced "7.1.0" with "7.2.0". And the tar command needed a new parameter because apparently they don't distribute gcc in bz2 format (at ...

TOS 4 VBL code does the following in this sequence: [*]Bumps up frame clock [*]Checks the lock semaphore vblsem ($452) to see if someone has locked the VBL and bails if yes [*]Bumps up VBL clock [*]Checks colorptr ($45a) and if not null, sets the palette and then clears the pointer [*]Calls deferred...

Re: gcc 7.1 for the ST series

Okay, just pushed a fix for brownout - could you get, recompile and test please? Yes, and this time it works flawlessly. Just a warning remaining that complains about comparing gst_name[0] against NULL (should probably be NUL instead?). Compilers emit warnings as a way to tell you you're doing a go...

I had similar problems. I've got the mintlib-Git-20170304 version because the other one was removed from the website. Then I got a bunch of errors (missing folder, which I've created manually). I changed /usr to ~/usr because I didn't want to have mess in my /usr/ Then I got this: make[1]: Entering...

Re: gcc 7.1 for the ST series

Just tried to build the compiler (Ubuntu 17.04), but didn't succeed. I had to adapt the mintlib archive filename (it changed from *CVS* something to *Git*) which allowed to build the first stage xgcc, but the second stage gcc build failed afterwards with checking for m68k-ataribrowner-elf-gcc... /h...

Re: gcc 7.1 for the ST series

do the generated binaries work on standard ATARI STF with TOS 1.00 or do they require to use Mint and unix subsystem? If you check out the repository for the builder you can find a folder called "barebones" that has a few examples that build with very few dependencies (you can also check ...

Re: gcc 7.1 for the ST series

Statically linked binaries Sorry if I'm misunderstanding this, but isn't static linking on linux a big no-no and against one of its core philosophies? At least in my mind, gcc would have to be statically linked against all libraries including libc, and from what I know libc tends to change over tim...

Re: gcc 7.1 for the ST series

Are Ubuntu packages coming, or is a build from source required? Well, that's a bit of a tricky issue: what packages do people need and if they downloaded prebuilt ones for 6.2. People could use 64bit, 32bit (not that common but you never know), Ubuntu 14, 16, perhaps older ones, Centos, etc etc, th...
