I can confirm this does not work on a Falcon with 14MB and CF card reader. The HDD driver is never read from the card and the machine boots to default ROM desktop.

Re: uip-tool

What build environment did you use to make this app? I want to try to make it work with my internal Ethernet controller http://www.atari-forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=28840

Re: Internal Falcon Ethernet controller

I would support someone in EU manufacturing them for sale in EU. You can buy blank PCBs from OSH Park (https://oshpark.com/shared_projects/lxwCvpHJ) or use the attached Gerbers. You would then buy ISA Ethernet cards off eBay and transfer the parts. Adding the programmed CPLD is the only custom part.

Re: Internal Falcon Ethernet controller

Let's try this. One is now up for auction. Interested to see just what the level of interest is.

Re: Internal Falcon Ethernet controller

Here are the design files. The STING driver and source, DipTrace PCB design files and schematic, and Quartus 13 project folder for the CPLD.

Re: Internal Falcon Ethernet controller

Quick update:

It looks like there will need to be one more revision on the PCB. The mag pack needs to be moved to the bottom of the board in order to clear the Falcon's RF shielding.

Re: Internal Falcon Ethernet controller

The RTL uses a 20MHz crystal, but all communication with the Falcon is asynchronous through the Altera CPLD. I have a second revision of the board built and tested. I was going to see about adding support for the "Boot ROM" function of the chip, but I can't think of a useful application fo...

Re: Internal Falcon Ethernet controller

Fortunately "EXPAND" only goes to U63 (GAL) and the 1K pullup on the mobo, and the CPLD on my board. I replaced the 1K and CPLD and ordered a new GAL from Best Electronics. The GAL, being NOS, was completely blank when it arrived and did not work. So I had to buy a GAL programmer and repro...

Needless to say, there is no longer line voltage anywhere near my workbench ATM. Also, a moderator may want to move this thread from the "Professionals" forum to the "Blithering idiots" forum...

Re: Internal Falcon Ethernet controller

An unhappy update on this project: While probing around to work out interrupts the scope lead connected to EXPAND on the expansion header grazed the fuse clip on the PSU sending 120v into the Falcon. This incredibly stupid cockup on my part instantly fried the U63 GAL and the 1k pullup resistor on t...

Re: Internal Falcon Ethernet controller

The speed tests are comparing to the EtherNEC Cartridge port adapter for ISA cards (the card has the same chip on it)
http://hardware.atari.org/ether/

As for not using the Joy-B port, I can't see anywhere else that would not require cutting up a Falcon.

Re: Internal Falcon Ethernet controller

So I found the stats display on Litchi and got some better results. Receiving 2MB file: Cartridge: 41,500 B/s Expansion: 91,500 B/s Sending same file: Cartridge: 12,300 B/s Expansion: 12,400 B/s So the results are actually pretty good for receive. More than double the speed. Sending is odd though. W...

Re: Looking for a circuit diagram Atari Falcon Power Supply ...

The switching controller on mine is an SK8085. The main switch is a K1117 MOSFET. The opto feedback is a PC111 photo transistor. The 5v rectifier is a C10P048 diode. The rest of the components are just jellybean passives.

It's possible to view a picture of the joystick side port ? (without RJ11 cable)

It should be noted that the alignment of this prototype is off a little. There is just enough room for the RJ45 and the LED column on the next rev.

Internal Falcon Ethernet controller

This project started out as a "I wonder if I can do it" challenge to myself. Two years later I've got the first working prototype. The adapter plugs directly into the Falcon's expansion port and provides an RJ11 jack in place of the joystick-b port. I chose to do it this way so that no cut...
