Re: Solution for higher resolutions on STE?

It already could be on the way since a year. What I can tell, is that it is now under testing. It still will need it's time, but we will see it. Now you hate it, you don't believe it, then you will love it. And those who do that work now will be your heroes.

Re: Solution for higher resolutions on STE?

There will be a solution which can be plugged just on the CPU. It is not only graphics card. It the thing many of you don't believe in that it happens. But it will happen this year and you will love it. "The others" have it already.

Yes, you are right. This commercial modification of ST is VERY rare today.

Re: PARCP-USB

I prefer using the server on the Atari and the Client on the PC because this combination is much faster than vice versa, the user interface runs much smoother on PC.

Re: Stielow 2100 (Atari 1040STF) resources

Hey, nice! Thank you! But I have replaced the Stielow-TOS by original.

And I have a relabled Megafile from Stielow. But this has no changes compared to original.

Can you scan the manual and make photos of the keyboard with it's stickers.

Did you understand what is the purpose of this mod?

Re: Atari Mega STe MIDI to USB instrument

Atari Mega STE and TT will soon habe Lightning USB interface. There is also NetUSBee with USB interface and something for ACSI-DMA-port with USB. There must be a skilled software programmer which could make a CUBASE driver for that...????

NEWDESK.PRG

The software is called "NEWDESK.PRG". It was given to registered ATARI developpers in about 1990 under NDA and only on request, just when the TT was released. So developpers could test the new desktop, AES 3.0 and so on with their applications. It was at least available in english, german ...

Re: We redesign the STE

The german Burda publishing company used Atari TT with Calamus and a special keyboard (I have two of them, plus driver, connected via IKBD and Midi) to layout several weekly magazines (news, womans, gossip). They just changed to other systems in year 2000 or so and so many used TTs came to the ebay ...

Re: We redesign the STE

In practice, I feel the IBM was absolutely crippled by its lack of mouse and lack of a GUI. Text-only software is extremely limited. You could use an Atari word processor today easily. It would feel similar to a modern package. But could you use DOS versions of Wordperfect today? No way! Basically ...

Re: We redesign the STE

This is really how I feel too. AFAIK Calamus was one of the most advanced DTP packages of the time, more advanced than anything on the IBM. It seemed to support certain font kerning features that still aren't implemented in Windows or OS X: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calamus_(DTP) Yes, true, it'...

Re: We redesign the STE

No, E-ST was not the answer, it was quite incompatible as it used to have a kind of self designed MMU for memory protection/virtualisation. Dear 1st1; Incompatible with what or with whom? Any true advance could assume a certain incompatibility; Perhaps the TT or the Falcon were fully compatible wit...

Re: We redesign the STE

Redesign the STE in the possibilities of the 1989's: - faster serial ports - 16 mhz cpu & chipset, providing also new video modes - add on card expansion slots - cpu upgrade slot - offer upgrade cards, like graphics, network, sound, real scsi - internal ide harddisk (at-bus was there already) - ...

Re: MEGAFILE 60 disk capacity issue

I would recreate the bad sector list if you perform a low level format anyway. May be just run some software that performs a surface test and marks the bad clusters at the high level format. This is the best way. Because different controllers have different behaviours, some still can handle tracks/...

Re: MEGAFILE 60 disk capacity issue

Bad track list remains the same, because it does not contain sector numbers, only tracks and heads. This is not exactly true; the defect list printed on my MFM HD also contains the location of the defect in "bytes from index mark" (BFI). If I were to format it with RLL, I suppose I would ...

No... STEEM is an ST Emulator for Windows. And PASTI is an enhancement for STEEM emulator to handle STX images. So with STEEM plus PASTI you can open STX images in STEEM. And like on normal ST computer you can copy files or whole disks from one (virtual!) drive to another. But... STX images are ofte...

Re: Two fans on the TT

A tower chassis is completeley different. It has much more air volume inside which would need to heat up. It should have more gaps and holes for air circulation with the outside. Because of the height of the tower chassis there is also something a bit like a chimney effect inside the chassis which d...

I would not remove them.

One fan cools the power supply, the other cools the hard disk. Which one you would like to let die because of heat?

Re: MEGAFILE 60 disk capacity issue

Bad track list remains the same, because it does not contain sector numbers, only tracks and heads.

MFM and RRL use the same magnetic density, the difference is the encoding. RLL is 1.5 times more effective than MFM. For further details I recommend to read the "Scheibenkleister" book.
