Re: TT dual video output with GFX-card?

The onboard video is not disabled when a graphics card is active. Only all output is redirected to the new card. I remember there was soem software which could use the 2nd monitor, but I forgot detail.

I wonder if Falcon has also that gaming mode register discovered by czietz in STE and TT.

Re: TT030 clone - is it possible ?

I would take the Falcon as a base, with Apollo 68080 FPGA processor and supervidel/SAGA graphics. And then enhanced by network, USB and so on. You can just take the Vampire V4 board and plug it onto a mATX adapter board which has the missing interfaces in 16 MB adress base. Leaving the Vampire-board...

Maybe they expected the price falling with next generation CPU (68040) for 030.

Sorry if I am wrong, I am far away from my books and so, 12 hours by plane... And it's already quite late and still hot here... But I think basically you know what I mean. What I think, what would be interesting, is if these ROM5/6 signals could be used in sensefull way for us, to extend the hardwar...

Re: GAMECART, a hidden register in the STE

I think, don't imagine that as an STE. Like Chistian wrote in the german forum, imagine more an STE Gaming System, similar like XE-GS. It would not need: - DMA and FDD controller# - Yamaha sound and parallel port - 6850 for Midi and Keyboard/Mouse/Joystick - full TOS It would be - 68000-8 - 1-4 MB R...

There is no "must buy" for anyone, even if such a product is available. It's another option for enthusiast.

Re: TT030 clone - is it possible ?

There is the Suska project... https://www.experiment-s.de/de/

And there is the Apollo/Vampire project which in theory could also be ATARI compatible... Maybe our friends makes it possible? EmuTOS and MiNT already runs on Vampire, using SAGA's advanced video modes.

Re: Apollo Team announces developing of Vampire standalone version to run as AMIGA and ATARI ST

Ask how many CT63e for Falcon 030 have been sold, the price was also arround 350 plus more than 100 for a CPU, and these peoples (me to) want now to have Supervidel. Ask those who buy a Falcon or TT for 600...1200 Euros... If Amiga guys can afford this, why we can't?

Re: Apollo Team announces developing of Vampire standalone version to run as AMIGA and ATARI ST

Now they announced again Vampire standalone version based on new hardware design Vampire V4. In their current announcement there is no word about ATARI version yet, so I have relaunched that question in their announcement thread. The key features are: The Vampire V4 is made with a standard “one desi...

Re: MEGA ST keyboard with Caps Lock LED

A Nand Gate, which's inputs are linked to keyboard matrix row and column which crosses at the caps lock key, and a d-Flipflop at the output. Addionally the d-flipflop would need a link to reset signal and a LED behind. That could be a very basic electronic solution.

Re: Fitting a Low-Profile Floppy Drive

I did this already on my two Falcons and one the of a friend. You need an adapter for slim floppy to standard 34 pin connector, they are available as accessories for some rack servers. Mine were for servers from Fujitsu-Siemens. You need also to know, that such PC slim floppys are set to operate on ...

In the german forum some weeks ago someone presented an STE with Falcon style top chassis. I mean with the breakout for a standard floppy, not with atari floppy front bezel. This was interesting.

Re: The game is on (can we make MiNT/TOS this pretty?)

The operating systems are definitely very different in how you configure them, but with XaAES, we should be able to make it look as nice as AfaOS does for the Amiga. A matter of taste I guess, but I've always found Workbench just plain ugly. The current look is just tarted up versions of the 1985 W...

Re: The game is on (can we make MiNT/TOS this pretty?)

What I miss in modern OS-es is not some visual, cosmetic thing, but something what I seen only in TOS 2.06 and later: loading DESKTOP.INF (or NEWDESK,INF) file at any time - and you get in moment your layout for specific work, activity. There is such tool for Windows 10 at least for icon positions....

Re: Call for (not so technical) questions -- Atari's product manager 1991-96

A question, no, two. ... four ... 1. Did thei preview the upcomming trend of 3D graphics? I think the Jaguar and Lynx already have very simple 3D units. Did they had the idea to contiune that 3D path, like just a few years later 3dfx did it? 2. Were there plans to merge (advanced) Jaguar graphics ha...

Re: Call for (not so technical) questions -- Atari's product manager 1991-96

How was it like working at Atari back then? Did they use Ataris for their work? If so, what software did they use? I can tell you, at least for Raunheim in Germany. They used ST series, mostly Mega STs, some with SM-194, for many things. Wordplus with 1ST-Mail, Adimens database, Calamus DTP and man...
