Assembler is the way to go. Get a copy of Devpac 3. It's an amazing assembler and debugger.

HOWEVER ...

Back in the day I probably learned just as much from STOS Basic, particularly when it comes to writing games. It's a good entry point for most projects and easy to get into.

Re: EDGE Magazine falsely claim Psygnosis had a Jaguar for 12 Months...

I stopped reading magazines years ago. There was a time when I'd buy every games magazine in existence. But then they started to jack their prices up as circulation started to fall. The last straw was probably reading Edge one time and thinking ... this is worse than reading the Financial Times. The...

Re: Amiga @wikipedia - history

Just been reading this thread silently to myself. A few basic points about business. Jack Tramiel did not own Atari Corp. You cannot own a corporation, even when you buy it. It's like a Limited Company in the UK. The major shareholders, usually the directors, do not own the company. Tramiel installe...

Re: New Atari Forum

As much as I love my 800XLs, marking the ST (or any other system) as a 2nd rate computer isn't great marketing. A board can only survive on its membership.

Your mode proud ST coding achievement?

It's been many years since I did any programming on an ST - even though I own a Mega 1 and have 3 STe machines in the attic. Back in '91 I learned 68000 assembly language on my original STFM (wish I'd never sold it :( ) in the space of a week with the help of an excellent book, 68000 Assembly Langua...

Re: Collected 3500 ST disks today

I remember some years ago someonw dumped more than 2,500 ST floppies on me. They spent most of their time in the attic as I didn't have room for them. They contained full Automation, Medway, Pompeii and D-bug (which I'd never even heard of at the time) collections. Sold them on eBay one collection a...

Faulty floppy replacement with HD floppy drive?

I'm wondering what's the easiest way of replacing a faulty drive in one of my STEs with a HD drive? I have a spare Sony drive and have found out how to modify the drive. However, I'm not entirely sure what I need to do to get it working in the ST. Much to my surprise, it has an Ajax drive controller.
