Re: Falcon NO display after NVRam replacement

Absolutely it is up to them. I still get marketing info from them at work. My requirement for them is low, but, you can bet your bottom dollar they get good publicity from it. No one here would complain about their product, in fact, there are several people pointing out inferior Chinese knock offs a...

Re: 2 versions of SMD-340, need help

I'm in Aussie, might not be too helpful. ;-) Yes, I have put 1.44's into MegaSTE's before. They work differently to a Falcon in that they need the right controller and jumper setup to work in HD. WD1772-02 or Ajax. Early models had DD and WD1772's, they moved off to the Ajax and HD. A jumper needs t...

Re: 2 versions of SMD-340, need help

I think you'd be surprised. About 10 - 15 years ago I started pulling FDD's out of PC's I was scrapping at work. I have two boxes full of mixed Pana's, Mitsumi's, Sony's, Epsons..... I should be right till I fall off the perch, I figure. The majority have an external drive select jumper.

Off their website, just register and order samples IIRC. I have done it twice over the years using different email addresses.

Re: Falcon NO display after NVRam replacement

100%. I did the same for my two.

As far as I am aware, the Dallas chips have a fuse that blows when they are first fired up to switch the battery on. This means that even if they are stored, they will last the shelf life of the battery too.

Re: Falcon NO display after NVRam replacement

There are Amiga CF -IDE adapters that sit flush on the mainboard. I wonder if we could use any of those? Or, maybe design a PCB that would plug in directly and use the mounting holes. That wouldn't be too hard with anyone that has skills and knocking up PCB's. ;-)

The device might be set to slave, not master.

Re: Falcon NO display after NVRam replacement

My eyesight is pretty average these days too. Exxos and a couple of others do low profile coin cell NV replacements that would suit well for docketing in a standard Falcon case. So once you get it working if you want to put it back together there are good options.

Correct. And it isn't hard to buzz them all out. I think only 10 or so pins are connected.

Re: Falcon NO display after NVRam replacement

To mu knowledge, the Falcon will not boot without an NVRAM chip, if it is flat that is fine, but it won't post without one.

It would be a 74F04. Have a look here;

It might be a good idea to check voltage levels on the PSU too.

Re: Falcon NO display after NVRam replacement

Have you tried resetting the NVRAM? Two things that might be worth a look, the clock patch, which is the loose wire you refer too. I can't make out the IC, but it might pay to go over that and make sure it is right. How long was it before you installed the NVRAM that you last booted the Falcon? It c...

Re: Falcon NO display after NVRam replacement

The ground pin on the NVRAM is stubborn, mine didn't go well. No boot after I put the socket and replaced the NV chip. I flooded the ground pin and off it went. I could see what the issue, visually, though. My next step would have been to bridge ground and buzz all the lines out using the schematics...

Re: Problem Replacing a Falcon 030 Floppy Drive

Looks like it was only ever intended for the PC. You only need drive select to be changed.

Quite a bit of shenanigans. I'd probably try another drive.

Re: Atari ST HELP PLz

That looks like an Evesham micros RAM upgrade. The old ST mags used to flog them when 512k became a bit prohibitive.

Exxos makes 4mb upgrades you can use. 4MB is trickier than 1MB as it requires an extra address line.

Re: Problem Replacing a Falcon 030 Floppy Drive

There are a ton of 1.44 drives you can use with a Falcon. I use a Panasonic in my tower. I have had success with Sony, Teac and Mitsumi drives as well. Have a look on the PCB, there will most likely be a pair of solder tabs or jumpers labelled D0 D1. Switch that, plug in, fire and forget. You could ...

Most of the gear that gets passed around down here is on word of mouth. STFM's can be got for $50 if you know the right shady bloke and $200 if you resort to ebay.

NetusBee or Ethernec network support would be pretty cool too. Not that you haven't done enough already, Doug. ;-)
