Re: STEEM new user

In Steem GEMDOS type hard disk emulation (so assigning some Windows DIR as partition) works only with regular TOS versions. Not with Magic. It even works not when TOS is in RAM - for instance set via SELTOS or RAMTOS . What is there is only drive bit set in system variables - that's why can put driv...

Re: Atari Legend is back!

A short announcement - we're just coming to release a very rare game (at least the Atari ST version is very rare). ... Enjoy and hope you'll like this game ;) Nice found. Really something unknown so far. I seen lot of box scans for PC release, and it is released for Amiga, CPC etc. That initiates s...

Re: STe upgrade to TOS 2.06 question

I was reading about that, i was interested in making it switchable between some early version and 2.06. 2.06 is good so far but i'm sure there are some incompatibilities, also, it takes much longer to boot. I don't do any gaming on my STe, so i'm not sure there is really any benefit to having it sw...

Re: STe upgrade to TOS 2.06 question

Since STE TOS is 256KB you can use only 2x 1Mbit (EP)ROMs . 27256 and 512 are too low capacity (2x32 & 2x64KB only). Therefore first 2 combinations were never used. In my STE those jumpers are set for 27C1000 by factory. Actually, you can use larger capacity 32-pin EPROMs and Flash EPROMs - what...

More nit picking: it is not enough that (some) people know that I know some stuff, forum is right place to share knowledge, experiences.
We need to use clear terminology. And that may require some talk, discussion.

Re: TT/(STE) reserved screen modes

As I see, this thread turning in some chaos. Really, what speed-up of Cubase has with topic ? That's pure SW thing, so should go in APP section. Now, some may say what Hard 'n' Heavy has with topic ? I say it has, because of mentioned scrolling on TT . I just tried to point on what is screen mode, a...

Re: TT/(STE) reserved screen modes

Demos use lot of diverse tricks to achieve some nice things, but I don't think that they use any new video modes. Same can be said for Spectrum 512 and similar high-color displaying solutions. It is simply not some new video mode when you need to constantly change palette on fly, in accurate moments...

Yep. I think that you just should use RAMdisk for copy between 2 floppies (with only 1 drive, of course). Or even better, use hard disk as buffer :D

Re: TT/(STE) reserved screen modes

Oh dear God. " so there is a 'reserved'/unused/whatever setting: 11" . And if that 11 would be of some use, somebody already would discover it in last 28 years. "so there are 2 undocumented video resolutions." - I don't think that there is any valid, working undocumented video re...

Re: Falcon drive "B"

Not sure what you really want. Just copy from floppy A to floppy B ? But then, what HDdriver has with it ? Hard disk drivers don't assign some IDE or SCSI device to logical drive B. With reason. That will work not good, for sure. It may be that your power supply is weak now, and 2 floppy drives work...

Re: TT/(STE) reserved screen modes

I find it very strange that someone talks about "reserved" screen modes, but " no horizontal hardware scroll it seems." - :D What about looking some specs of those computers, their video circuits ? TT has 8bpp mode(s), and high color is 16bpp. Experimenting is good, but should fi...

Re: Swiftar - fixed, trainer opt.

Because game is very hard I did some changes/improvements : Hard disk v. : http://atari.8bitchip.info/SCRSH/swiftar.html Floppy v. : http://atari.8bitchip.info/ASTGA/S/swiftar.php There are DLs for org. and impr. versions. It's probably better to not play both in close intervals - need to get used o...

Re: Gemulator and disk images

Yes, I booted successfully from both images you supplied. With Gemulator 2000 and 2008. It boots even when Windows file access is on - when Boot disk C is set, but C on image is not accessible because C is mapped for Windows C partition, This is flaw of program, as I see - you can not set what image...

Re: Gemulator and disk images

Thanx. Both images work well in Gemulator 2008 and 2000 . And I still can not make other (working in other emulators) images with AHDI or other driver to work. So, I guess that Gemulator needs specific AHDI version and maybe some special settings too to emulate Atari ACSI hard disk port. Maybe it is...

Re: Gemulator and disk images

Yes, must uncheck Windows file access. Yes, first slot after floppies - what is actually ACSI target 0, usually drive C: . Boot disk is C . That sample image is 80MEG.DSK ? I can't see DL for it on Gemulator site. I think that I used it in past, but did not preserve it. So, can you RAR/ZIP it and po...

Re: Gemulator and disk images

I started Gemulator today, first time in last 10 years, I guess. Getting through setup was little messy, and it may be just because it works not reliable anymore - my PC seems too fast for it's old code. I tried with some hard disk images which work well in Steem (Pasti ACSI emulation) and in Hatari...

Re: Gemulator and disk images

Gemulator is not full Atari emulator - it does not emulate low level HW accurately. So, you just can not run many things with it. I used it in past, some 12 years ago. But now we have much better emulators. It was good because speed was good on machines of that age - right because of partial emulati...

Re: TOS: Now and When

Any program that works only with TOS v1.00, will work only from floppies, which makes them quite annoying, when one has hard disk attached to ST. I know exactly one program (ST Quixx game) which requires TOS v1.00, which is not exactly a pressing reason to use TOS v1.00. Does somebody know any othe...

Is it possible to use or implement .STX image formats from Autifit to be used with images that have copy protection? or some other format that can handle copy protection. "STX image formats from Autifit" - that's very bad to call STX images like that. Yes, Aufit can convert to STX format,...

Re: Tool to dump STe ROM?

I think that there was something with Steem, or it was same as with Pacifist ? Anyway, I did put together simple APP for this: TOSDUMP1.ZIP It dumps TOS 1.00 - 2.06 in file, so only for ST, STE + probably Stacy, ST Book, not for TT, Falcon (for now). Filename looks like: first 3 chars are TOS versio...
