Re: EmuTOS 0.9.9

... The Schrödringer's cat thought experiment is not about a cat at all. It's a paradox that exemplifies Erwin Schrödinger's objections against quantum physics. When applying quantum physic logic to this thought experiment, the cat must be both dead AND alive until you open the box and check it, wh...

Re: EmuTOS 0.9.9

... Here is a solution. This is a TSR named FIXPP.PRG. It reimplements ikbdsys to fit AtariZoll's expectations  Run it before the game (from desktop or AUTO), then run the game. PS: This is very alpha stuff, just a proof of concept. You mean, those who want to play my adapts, later 600 ones ...

Common mistakes in Atari ST SW, bad practices

This is based on what I seen, mostly in games - and count is over 1000 examined more-less ones. Will start with not game: GFA Artist - jump to fixed address in ROM . That results in work in only 1 TOS version, and only 1 language v. in it. Maybe programmers found that it is good regional protection,...

Re: EmuTOS 0.9.9

"or a workaround for a hack" - It is not hack. Ikbdsys is function with return in d0 (as usual). It acts same in TOS 1.00-4.04 . Well, at least acts mostly like. I did not test for all user actions, and I will not. If EmuTOS emulates for instance TOS 3.06 (what is almost same as 2.06) then...

Re: EmuTOS 0.9.9

No! You must read more carefully. It's not a case of REMOVING anything. It's a case of ADDING code to support a hack. ADDING code to EmuTOS means that EmuTOS grows in size. Remember, EmuTOS has to fit in ROM. There's already very limited space left, especially in the 192kb version which has lot of ...

Was choosing DR for TOS really good solution ?

After some discussions about TOS, experiences with it, disassembling TOS 1.04, then reading here some conspiracy theories, wild assumptions, then watching silly movie 'Pirates of SiliconValley' and some comment of it, and other things, I started to think about: was Digital Research really best choic...

Re: EmuTOS 0.9.9

Nothing new is said, again. If on screen says that user needs to press some key to continue, why should my SW care about some special cases ? It does not continue when mouse is moved, only in case when you hold some key pressed. Who will do such thing ? As said, nobody complained that it works not w...

Re: NEW and UNUSED ATARI 1040 STE for SALE

Don't listen to the haters. It's great that there are still NOS Ataris out there, with matching box. The price is correct when a buyer and a seller agree - and everyone else's opinion doesn't matter at all. Nice machine! Unless that one is called troed  Haters ? What an inappropriate word. Re: EmuTOS 0.9.9

I said at least 4x here that it is same in all TOS 1.00-4.04 - release is negative, pressing is positive. Yep, not always. Forgive me Atari people that I did not see that some non-English key press will return negative value, in SW in English language. Ah, and that changes not the whole thing - EmuT...

Re: NEW and UNUSED ATARI 1040 STE for SALE

OK, I think that we need to clarify here some things: OP should not call this 'new' but 'unused'. I'm who repairing computers, electronic, so I know what talking here. 27 years old STE, never or barely used has no chance to work at all. Because capacitors are dead for sure, Anyone who buys it should...

Re: Forgotten SW project

OK, I got what is AIF - basically it is just file format, called container too. In same purpose as WAV in Win. World. What matters here is not it, but audio sample parameters. This player can play samples if they are 44100 or 48000 Hz . Stereo. 16-bit little Endian - yes, yes, too limited, I know, b...

Re: EmuTOS 0.9.9

Another long post warning - 'because you asked it' type :D I put here my old blog kind page, not linked on my site from some reason: Yes, not really on topic, but some people made me do it, and I want to show about what things I care by programming. There are some silly mistakes in - like framerate ...

Re: EmuTOS 0.9.9

..... it's about breaking games that AtariZoll modified to use his "hey-I-recently-found-this-to-work-by-chance-super-cool-and-docs-are-for-lamers trick" (and to my understanding - at least according to one of the initial posts - they still work on EmuTOS - as you just need to move the mo...

Re: Forgotten SW project

As I know, AIF is Steinberg's sample format. I need exact specs of possible parameters with it. So: samplerates, mono/stereo, bit count (usually 8 or 16) . Would be good to link some good file in that format, so I can examine. Some shorter song for instance. And of course, playback possible on STE, ...

Calm down man. You are really over top. In any normal forum someone would be banned already, some 10 posts back. You can not insult me. And my opinion is not standard, almost never is. Re: Additional OPL2 sound through parallel port ?

Wrong, wrong ... If I do alone some project, then it is complete different case than here, where is asked for contribution of others. And asked for opinion. I gave mine, and then some silly talk started by Joska in first place. Do this, but don't expect that everyone will be excited and especially d...

Re: EmuTOS 0.9.9

Yes, you can blame programmers for crappy code - in many cases - there is lot of it indicating that coder was on Z80 or similar CPU - doing test on data reg after moving in it (where 68000 already set flags). And many other ... But part of problems is clearly to blame DR for. Poor documentation, Tra...

Re: EmuTOS 0.9.9

This is not about is that behavior of Ikbdsys such by design, or is some side effect. It is just about who is smarter, who knows TOS better. That's so clear if you read Otto's latest posts carefully. He just lost in discussion, almost called me a liar, and then came with some turd crap, what I did n...

Re: Additional OPL2 sound through parallel port ?

You don't get it, do you? Why do you still waste time on these obsolete, inefficient machines? Good question. Atari ST is now obsolete, But it is not inefficient - I like how sharing of RAM between video and CPU bus is solved. For it's time, it was beast, very fast and cheap computer. ACSI port is ...

Re: Additional OPL2 sound through parallel port ?

OK, my last words here: this OPL2 is just obsolete. Unlike the ST you mean? ;) "Obsolete" is the *essence* of this hobby. If it wasn't obsolete, it wouldn't be retro computing. Sure, that's why people now using 8GB SD and CF cards instead some 60 MB noise maker. You are just so inefficien...

Forgotten SW project

This one, from 2011 just was never published, and missing from this page: http://atari.8bitchip.info/STEbap.html I just spotted on it during my recent nightmare discussion with Hatari developers about sound errors in it. SW is regular format WAV player for STE - WAV format same as audio CD format, s...

Re: Additional OPL2 sound through parallel port ?

OK, my last words here: this OPL2 is just obsolete. Questionable ST port compatibility. Some proposed here MP3 playback module for ST. So, my opinion is that it would be much better expansion, what can do much more than this OPL2, and price should not be bigger. Additionally, there are better places...
