Re: Steem LE

I removed more confusing features. Only 2 ST models, STF and STE. No alt-RAM or LaceScan... No cartridge. Who uses them? Clearly, it's a build for people who just want to play games or check demos. Could go further... HD emu? I think that HD emulation is good, and can make gaming much sim...

Re: Steem LE

Interesting concept. I myself am a fan of 3.2 Boiler over the SSE version, and usually only use the SSE version if I require some feature that the original version does not support. This sounds like music to my ears :) Will download and check it out. Yep, exactly the same here. Steem Debugger 3.2 i...

Re: There are tons of BEST of threads, how about the WORST ST games?

Folks, ever heard about trainers, cheats ? We did them for you :D OK, here is one example: JetSet Willy - famous Sinclair Spectrum game, and is converted to ST too. It can't be finished because bug, But not much people was aware of it, because game is damn hard, so without trainer is almost impossib...

Re: STFM - no drive icons, WD1772 issue?

You need to check first AY (YM) soundchip, which drives floppy and side select lines. 5.25 drives pull more current on those lines than it can stand.
I had this problem some 28 years ago. And to add: must add amplifier to those 3 lines, otherwise it will destroy soundchip again with 5.25 drive.

Honestly, I don't see it as some LE. There is still plenty of (confusing too) settings. 'Hacks like accelerated ST" - huh, but you did not remove it completely. There is still full speed button, there is still run speed setting ++ in Options, General. You removed only CPU clock setting, while a...

Re: There are tons of BEST of threads, how about the WORST ST games?

And it just goes on ... Shadow of the Beast ST conversion is not that bad. It is playable pretty well. I would say that is medium quality. It could be done better, but not much. And it was discussed here about it a lot. We just need to understand that most of it was done for profit. Some, maybe new ...

Re: IBM formatted diskettes?

`IBM FORMAT' remains mystery to me. Tom Simply, that means floppy formats (multiple) used by IBM PC computers. Better said by PC DOS. In beginning it was 360 KB on 5.25 inch disks. Then they went on HD 5.25 drives, and capacity was 1.2 MB. And finally on 3.5 inch HD drives - 1.44 MB. What is common...

Re: There are tons of BEST of threads, how about the WORST ST games?

No, some people missed it completely by reading what they want to read. I did not write ALL games.... I wrote a game. I don't think anyone can improve ALL bad ST games even if that person has several lifetime. I meant that adding music will not make bad game good - and that is clear in my text. Act...

Re: There are tons of BEST of threads, how about the WORST ST games?

My guess is someone like Pp can improve a game by giving it stereo music and better sound, smoother game play etc making the game better overall. You missing it completely. If some game is so bad, adding music will change not much. Smoother gameplay is sometimes relative easy, and sometimes you wou...

This is worst ever thread in this forum. Worst as much as most of mentioned games here. Really, should not use that word just like that, just because some game is poorly made. Re: There are tons of BEST of threads, how about the WORST ST games?

There are hundreds of much much worse games than those you listed.
And no, we don't need worst game lists. They just don't deserve our time. Why talk about crap, when there is plenty of quality games barely known.

Re: SCSI2SD V5.06b and MegaSte instability - blocks and sectors

I don't keep all my hard disk adaptations on 1 SD card. 1080 of it would probably take some 600-800 MB. But there are statesaves, and 1 of it takes half or 1 MB. So, it may be that only one game, what some plays little more may take 20 MB. And we are over 1GB already. Streaming videos ? It's not str...

Re: SCSI2SD V5.06b and MegaSte instability - blocks and sectors

... 1Gb is not really a limit with these machines, you'd struggle to fill up 1Gb on an ST... The only real downside is slow writing, around 600kb/s IIRC. 1GB is nothing today. Sorry, but you don't live in year 2017. And yes, only that slowness is good enough reason to not use it. Why 1 adapter for ...

Re: SCSI2SD V5.06b and MegaSte instability - blocks and sectors

This is not driver problem for sure. Actually, in case of ACSI - and Mega STE's internal ACSI-SCSI adapter is that, driver self has minimal influence on reliability. Because all is done with DMA chip. I would try termination for case. But more likely it is just some kind of HW incompatibility betwee...

Re: TT030 clone - is it possible ?

Indeed, I can not say about %-age of SW what will not work on non-68030 CPU. The fact is that they removed some instructions like movep. And I think that Apollo is even much less compatible. CPU emulation on other, fast CPU is something, what should be not so hard, because we have already SW for tha...

Re: TT030 clone - is it possible ?

There is one big problem (beside price) with 68060 in case of TT clone - it is not 100% SW compatible with 68030. What means that plenty of SW will need patching to work on it - starting with TOS self, of course. Maybe better way would be using some new, multi-core CPU as fast 68030 emulator - if it...

Re: Rogue

I think that we should not waste more words on Mastertronic release. Done in 1988 - they didn't fix that it work on higher TOS version, contrary, they made it even worse. Those changes (16 bytes) in ROGUE.PRG make no sense, it's most likely damaged data.
